Im bored and UNISA sucks, so im making something for fun! Like three years back I attempted to make a management game, which, well, sucked! Now I plan to make a new one, that will suck less! Here's the idea.
CONCEPT:
The game will run like most management games, hire staff, upgrade and build rooms etc...The twist however, is that you will control all your guests, and it will be up to you to keep them happy. They will tell you when they are hungry, or when they need the toilet. Keep them happy, they stay. The longer they stay, the greater the reward, but neglect them and there will be consequences. Another new thing I want to add is that each level will have random mini games pop up form time to time, for example. You have a helicopter tour, and, on the day your V.I.P guest wants to take the tour, your pilot is sick! Its now up to you take the flight.
Alot of work you say?!? Yes, but we can dream :P
PROGRESS:
Well, not very far actually, all I've done is make some crappy graphics and and a couple of paths while waiting for someone from UNISA to answer their damn phone!!! Fortunately I have quite a few mini games from past projects that Im going to be using so that not a big issue! Ill be posting both the source and exe with my latest progress. If anyone does actualy look at the source...please dont judge, Im just a poor lonely boy who wants to be a pastor **DOGGY EYED**
RELEASES:
First release, absoulutely pointless to play, but if someone would so kindly just look at my code and tell me if Im doing it right! Also a design doc included with the graphics I need for now!

If you show me some of the artwork and give us dimensions, maybe I can help with a few sprites.

If I may make a small suggestion: Stay duration. Guests book in for a specific number of nights. You get rewarded with a rating when they leave. If they are really unhappy they may elect to leave early, which is an automatic -1 rating.

What are you programming it in?
This is a big undertaking but it can be done :)
look forward to playtesting

Very nice idea Pseudonaja, I think that would work better! In my idea if you were too good, then you would never allow for new guests, this then stopping you from getting V.I.P's.
@Kensei: Im doing it in G.M!
@Elyaradine: That would be awesome, Im quite lacking on that side, Ill be posting the source later today and then you could look! Ill also post my design document which has dimensions of all the graphics I currently need! Thanks alot!

Oh! Another idea! Your hotel must have an overall rating. Then every week you take that rating times a random number between 0 and 2 to get a slightly fluctuating interest. Then use that value to work out how many new guests show up.
Result: Better rating means more guests.
Then you can go even further. If guests are rejected because you don't have space it affects your rating.
Someone please help! My brainstorm muscle is cramping! Must... stop....
Oh here's another idea. Different levels of rooms. Cheaper rooms and more expensive rooms. Like penthouse rooms. And VIPs get upset if you put them in cheap rooms.

How about random disasters that one has to cope with, like floods?
Repairs to rooms - the player can do it, or they can be a type of disaster.
Staff honesty, like do the janitors steal guests' stuff?
Security guards for rowdy guests.
Events like Computer Gaming Conventions, The Society for Longer Hair Annual Shampoo Evaluation Conference etc can up your status and income, but might put off some guests who like quiet hotels or some VIP guests that you won't be able to accommodate.
Regular guests - lower prices for them, but they come each and every single year.

Ok, CiNiMoDZA, I have not taken a serious look at the stuff, but firstly, is there a way to make all the sprites a little smaller? (even my smexy 17" laptop screen struggles)
The theory behind my request is that a players should see as much as the playing screen as possible without scrolling.
I'll look again tonight ;)

Sorry, wont be posting anything tonight, spent the day building a creche in a township! Now I am covered in paint and in dire need of a bath and my bed!!! Maybe tomorrow?!?
NVM: Im seriously over tired so I cant sleep :P Sux balls...Well, made an amazing discovery, if you check interpolate graphics in the prefrences, the graphics dont suck sooo bad! Sill suck though :( Anyways, I finished making the hire staff pop-up menu's with super cool graphics ;) and now Im going to bed. Ill finish the second section of my design doc tomorrow, and hopefully part of three! Once part three is done, the game will be playable, albiet, pointless until later on! I must say, this is the first time I have made a design doc, and it makes things sooo much easier. ust make sure you stick to it, and making game will be a piece of cheese! Save all the extra's for after thegames complete!!!

I assume that your vending machine is supposed to be 32x72 rather than 72x32. :P

Also, I just realised I forgot to put in shadows. :|

I have a little script that i put in for shadows, dont worry about that. All my graphics are top down, thats why the vending maching is 72x32, but it doesnt really matter because you can rotate! ery nice vending machine though! Ill still use it!!
P.S. Ill only add the final graphics once the game is done! But these are looking freaking awesome man!! Seriously!

goodness gracious I remember you won Best New Entrant with Hotel Manager (I did a blog post http://mailowl.co.za/2006/10/09/looking-back-at-rage-2006/ but your game link doesn't work anymore); I hope you can improve on your past successes!
BTW, have you played Sim Tower where you build a mall and a hotel skyscraper? That could give you some hints and ideas

If you could zip them up, that'd be awesome. ^_^ It's nice to see what you had in mind, so I don't make another mess up like the vending machine. :P

I really like that you're working on this again! And without the pressures of a comp on your shoulders, you've got time to ask and get things sorted out when you run into problems. I'm looking forward to playing this soon :)
