Ok, so we've got XNA (http://creators.xna.com) which is producing some awesome stuff (http://forums.tidemedia.co.za/nag/showthread.php?p=61457#post61457). Turns out Sony's got it's own library/engine (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/gdc08-phyreengine-sonys-new-free-cross-platform-engine/) plans afoot, except it sounds like they're providing a more mature engine instead of the previously-complained-about bare-bones approach of XNA.
I think this competition is a good thing: We'll get better tools and support from both sides and we might even see XNA pushed to working on the PS3. That'd be great :) More choice is never a bad thing. I'd like to have a peek at this Phyre Engine soon though.
