Its all good.

IS it viable for the competition, (The main question)

How can I tell when the details are sketchy at best? ;)

Yeah, you're using text for your graphics. That's the point of the competition, isn't it?

just an update

the game is about 90 percent complete, the engine is in place and all things are functional. my current tasks left till release include:

removing debugging info from main game,

finish the interface for the game part

add the scoring and checking functions to check game state (already coded just not implemented)

create data files for the game to read from.

that is about all thats left :) this week i will release

another update, the game is working and done. i am just adding a bit of flavor to the game over checks it seems to be lacking so yea. its only that left, and some error checking on missing files etc.

im hoping to release this today, being tue 18. this game has been epic fun to make and im even having fun playing it. keep an eye out

Welcome to another rushed readme :)

This is the playable release, there is a story line, there are cutscenes, they have been excluded from this version for space and time sake :)

THE POINT OF THE GAME : A high score.

Yes, this game is based on score. score is all relative to your level
and you do get score for missing entire strings based on what u did hit.
This makes it extremely interesting because i will always be playing further
to try beat my best and the communitys best scores.

================================================== ==========================
STORY
================================================== ==========================

(short version)
You were hacked. The hacker is 1337, and is using your pc as a
relay/bouncer/catch for the job that is underway.
That way, he uses you as the culprit by relaying his commands
through your pc to the (insert government/security agency) network.

Your advanced overlay system kicks in and starts to filter in the
input as a last resort to system security.

( story movie here)

Ok either way, the game starts off pretty slow, but it is still tricky.
The text is coming in from the left, and is backwards. As each letter is seen/known of you may type it. that clears it out of the output buffer,
and stops it from gettings its way through to the security network. If it
does make its way to their network, their anger rises.

you get 5 chances to let it slip past you , and then it is game over.
They seize your pc and you go to jail (insert movie here)

================================================== ==========================
GAMEPLAY
================================================== ==========================

Text is streamed in from the left, as you type what you read it removes it
and scores are adjusted. Level increases every 25 characters hit, and
as level increses streming speed increases, as well as score.

If you miss a character, you lose 3 % of your score. This means the higher
your score the more it costs you to misstype letters.

There are sounds that represent changes. Levelup has a high beep,
so you dont have to look up at your score to know you owning the game.

An important note. As your level gets higher , the top left of your HUD
as the "current string" and current letter ahead of it being shown,this HUD feature FADES IN as your level increases. This means as your level increases it is possible that you can predict/type the words out before it scrolls
onto the screen even.
Be careful with this feature, it tends to take your eyes off of the scrolling letters, which causes game over.

Another important note :

As your level gets higher, the letters in the stream get closer together as well as faster.This makes it increasingly difficult to complete strings.

KNOWN ISSUES / BUGS
================================================== ==========================

So far, there are most bugs wrinkled out. This release is to find more

YES, the loading function/saving function is not available in this release

Other than that any crashes are a result of (as far as i know)

1) missing .net framework v2
2) data folder/files missing
3) irrlicht.dll, irrlicht.net.dll, irrKlang.NET.dll are missing from exe folder

These are the only things i know to cause a crash

================================================== ==========================
REQUIREMENTS
================================================== ==========================

.net framework v2
uses : directsound 8 for sound via irrklang
uses : opengl for drawing

================================================== ==========================
Additional Information
================================================== ==========================

The other font im not sure of its name.

Uses irrlicht 3d engine and irrklang sound engine
Created in Visual Basic .Net(lol)

I just tried out the demo and .NET really woke my laptop up. Whizzing sounds, smoke, midgets dancing around praying to a pagan god. Wow!

I am proud to say I finished level one.

The fuzzy font (a fuzzy font for a fuzzy spoon?) confused me to begin with me though, I kept second guessing myself. Although I'm sure once you clock up a few levels that isn't as much of an issue.

Looks great though. Good luck!

The speed seemed fine to me. I ran it under Vista.

How about having the font "decay" as the game progresses to make it harder?

Another idea is to also put in letters you're NOT supposed to type when the hacker realises what you're doing and tries to hack into your overlay system and get you to type the wrong things. They could be a different colour or maybe this is where you can use the fuzzy letters to show what not to type.

For the rage edition of this game i have fixed quite a few things, it will be done before compeition ends.

i posted it on the irrlicht forums here
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23892

My last post.

Hey, thanks to every one for the comments.

The gameplay issues

The next version (coming soon, 29 sept expected date)

Fixed font ::

A lot faster gameplay, in fact its quite hard. But you get more lives, and the speed is based on your "concentration" level as well as your level and your score. There are more difficulites being involved as well,

Such as, a defined language, with more than just numbers and letters, A system where you can play scores up against each other. a multiplayer as well as many other things. ITs a mini game so im not aiming to make an epic game.

My aim here from now on : finish v2, release with source, and let the community build on it? Im keen on that. Its Visual Basic .net and any coder could pick it up. Its well classed and well documented.

Ill be away for a week, checking in with my mobile. OTherwise v2 awaits
