Moonbase (http://www.playmoonbase.com) is a free online multiplayer strategy game, apparently. Works on FB, Mxit and mobile. Wondering what it's like, but I'm afraid to really get into the time needed to test out a social game.
The devs, Blue Leaf Games (http://www.blueleafgames.com), are in Cape Town. Would be good to hear from them about returns from platforms like Mxit, may need to go bother them in person :) Also, they're hiring (http://www.blueleafgames.com/jobs).

Played this on mxit, got bored, fed up and frustrated and deleted it.
I quite like the game concept, but the way its implemented still needs a bit of tweaking. Not sure what the web/facebook versions look like, but the mxit version is all text, and in their quest to display all the relevent information it either gets cluttered, or your entire screen is filled with blue links that you have to navigate through for days to find out what you want. Also, flawed back button is flawed. It works on some menus, but 90% of the time it will dump you into an endless loop (C back to B, then you would expect B>A but it takes you B>C)
Now, why i deleted it. Basically once you have enough units you steamroll everybody, and i mean everybody. Its a destructive cycle. You attack someone, steal their resources. Use resources to build more units. Units cost to keep, so you attack more, etc. until you're all powerful. Sounds great right? Only if everone starts on a fresh server at an equal level. If you join after someone else, its too late. As they can already have units up and running. Defending yourself isnt really an option. Moonbase doesnt tell you the attack/defence ratios, and attackers seem to win way more than they should. Here is an example. You have 100 buggies. Your units have a 30% health bonus, He attacks with 70 buggies. 50 of yours die, 40 of his die, and he walks away with some of your resources. With a 30 unit advantage, and 30% more health, why did i lose so many in comparison? And it gets worse. If the attacker has more units, most of the time you will lose all of yours, and the attacker loses NONE. So if you have 100. and he has 300, you lose all of them. /rant
I know on mxit they charge for additional services to "enhance" the game. I never found them useful in the slightest, and neither did any of the other players i talked to, so i dont know what type of returns they get on mxit. For some "moongold" (I never bought any, you get to a buy menu without them telling you how much 1 moongold is) you can buy things like timed attacks and reports on other players.

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you've taken a look at it - Can't get Mxit working on my phone :(
Sounds like classic webgame-style runaway feedback problems... Remember Prehysteria? That caused quite a big discussion about ways to build webgames that don't suffer from these sorts of massing and latecomer-penalising issues. Wish I could remember those ideas, be a good opportunity ;)

You could always use the pc version of mxit . OT : I stopped playing it as it lagged on my phone( samsung star ) ...yes a text game lagged on my phone. The menus took forever to scroll through ,the few minutes I did play though were quite cool , I like the concept but could do with a bit of work , Me thinks a simpler, quicker version would work wonders.
