YOURE MISSING OUT!!! HAHA!

Anyway, there is a thing or two i would like to fix regarding the disc, and add a couple of things, and we will do post-orders and depending on location volume and posting prices POSSIBLY, not definitely (as i would probably handle this myself) would make a plan to get more distributed. possibly.

Im sure many other aspects are covered from what Ive followed of this idea, but we need graphics resources :P

Reiner's Tileset
http://reinerstileset.4players.de/englisch.html

Lost Garden's stuff
http://lostgarden.com/2006/07/more-free-game-graphics.html
http://lostgarden.com/2006/02/250-free-handdrawn-textures.html

Molotov.nu
http://molotov.nu/?page=graphics

Are just a few good places, and there are countless others.

that makes sense.ill try find some resources for generic 3d as well, like a car, a character, a mech walker, a room, an outdoor scene etc. good idea :)

dINGLE

how about some sound effects, like the usual explosions, footsteps etc.?

I rather liked the ideas given in the thread that spawned this one of including a few of the better game engines (such as, I would say, Panda, and perhaps Game Maker - I forget how big its download is) and of including some of those XNA Gamefest presentations.

Another idea might be to include some good tutorials, especially for the included products.

Inspired by the mention in the other thread of including some free games (which also sounds good to me), it might be a good idea to include open-source games made using the included engines and creators, allowing users to rip them apart and figure out what makes them tick (making them the Sylars of games, perhaps? ;P).

Finally, along with the sound effects suggested by dINGLE, perhaps a small collection of music files might be useful, preferably spanning a wide variety of uses - there might one or more each of gloomy tracks, ominous tracks, cheerful tracks, cartoony tracks, action-y tracks, sci-fi-esque tracks, fantasy-esque tracks, etc...

ill look into it ,all the ideas are gold here. i got a number of others ill research this weekend whether they are viable ;S

The biggest thing that a DVD would need is a sane interface that makes sense of everything and lays them all out into categories.

Just a plain HTML page would do, as long as it shows you where everything is.

yea no worries there, it will be usability 100% first :)
What about including all copies of devmag? i have em all here on my drive.

I'd assume that was a given, unless everyone has all of them... I don't :(

How about some game dev articles and thought peices, interviews etc.

I remember there was a lot of Gamasutra stuff on the last DVD, found it really interesting

EDIT: Anyone read the brainy gamer (http://www.brainygamer.com/) ?
They have podcasts, not sure if they are good or not. Some round table discussions as well I think

Another thought, the resources thread could come in handy for all this, esspecially when we run out of itdeas and have space to fill!

maybe you can try to put paint.net on as it is helping me quite a lot in drawing sprites

FuzzYspo0N
30-09-2008, 04:01 PM
Yea, it is in the list actually (not that one, foolishly)

i have more then listed,

Im just double checking versions and making sure everything meets requirements like, sometimes the gimp required gtk installs, which without make the install useless. So im making certain i get it all down.

Thanks though, i wont forget it

The lists looking nice(can't wait to finally try vc08ee). Is the dxsdk the full dx9 or dx10 version?

FuzzYspo0N
01-10-2008, 11:18 AM
So far its 9, but ill look into space consideration for the huge increases in size :)

Yeah ms does tend to balloon things(just look at the sdk history), but it would be nice to have dx10 *puppy eyes*
