fyi the name comes from apocalypse and text.
Game Idea:
The game will be like Scorched Earth. The rockets and so on will be text.
How Scorched Earth works?
There are two forts, each who has a stockpile of weapons. Their mission is to destroy eachother with the weapons. You launch the weapons like you launch rockets in Gazza_N's game, Rockets.

Interesting, sounds fun...
In fact, its probably a good idea to shed some light on the scorched earth, as we dont know if everyone knows what it is,
like explain what YOUR game will be like:)

A nice idea - Scorched Earth can be quite a bit of fun.
If I may suggest, perhaps look for a way to reduce the slightly mechanistic "aim, fire, refine" schema that I tended to find in Scorched Earth - once you had taken a decent-enough shot, it was largely a matter of refining the parameters, as I recall.

Perhaps I can make the wind random every turn. And to make it easier to aim show a trail of where the shot would have gone if it wasn't for the wind.

WHAAAAAAAAAAT?! Thievery! Plagiarism! Shock! Horror! Baby Seal Clubbing!
But seriously, I am honoured. ;) I loved Scorch, so I'd like to see this in action.

Me too, but I unfortunately have a lot of things nibbling at my time. Extra Maths(the IPMO), the third round of the Computer Olimpiade and most importantly school work. Speaking of which, I have to go work on that...
But I am stealing time here and there to work on it. ;)

Off-topic: when are we seeing a new release of Rockets! ?

Also off-topic: Rockets! hasn't been abandoned, so don't worry. I'm focusing on Deathbringer for now because (1) it's a cool idea that's been on the back burner since rAge last year, (2) because I want a break from Rockets! and (3) because 3D provides so many fresh, stimulating programming challenges. Mainly, I just want to wait until rAge to see what Mindset has to offer regarding the game. Don't panic! I will continue work regardless of the outcome. I'll create a new thread when that happens. :)
And now we return you to "Apocatext", already in progress. :p

Random wind could work - thank you. ^_^

Sorry for the hype, but I have decided not to work(start working more specificly ;) ) on the game. Therefore I am withdrawing my entry into the competition.
I have other things to do that are much more important: like preparing for the SACO(South African Computer Olympiad), no way am I going to sit there for 5 hours and only get 50 out of 300, and working on my other game(s).

I'm sorry to hear that, ShadowMaster. If you feel that setting aside this competition will help you in the Olympiad, however, then I think that you are probably making a wise decision.
Good luck with the Olympiad! ^_^

The competition is already done, but I want to practice for next year so that I can do better next.

Bleh. :( I was looking forward to this game. Still, priorities are priorities, so good on you for keeping to them. You'll be in the next comp, I hope?

Yes I will probally enter the next comp(If it doesn't involve creating some cool graphics demo, I suck at those). But if my adventures into the SACO causes me to create some fast, useful for games algorithm(I can hope, can't I?) this will be the first place to get it.
