The Escapist presents the first ever Stonking Great Game Contest!

Zero Punctuation is The Escapist's groundbreaking and award nominated video review series starring Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. Every Wednesday Zero Punctuation picks apart the games so you don't have to in an unfiltered style that can only be described as "rapid-fire." Gamers love it, developers fear it and and now it's your turn to create a game and be judged by Yahtzee!

Starting Wednesday, August 5th, 2009, The Escapist will be taking submissions for browser based Zero Punctuation games.

Submissions will be valid from August 5th to October 19th. All submissions will then be judged over a 2 week period and the winner(s) will be announced the week of November 16th.
The Prize

* YOUR game will be judged by Yahtzee
* YOUR game will be featured in an upcoming Zero Punctuation
* YOUR game will also be available on the community spotlight under the Community Tab on The Escapist for all to play and enjoy
* A Zero Punctuation Swag Pack

If you're a game developer (rookie or expert) and want to submit your game in hopes that it will eventually be featured by Yahtzee on Zero Punctuation, follow these instructions:
To Submit

To submit your game, visit the following submission page: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/contests/uploader.php. You will be asked to enter your game's Title, Compiled Code and Source Code. Failure to enter any of these properly will result in automatic dismissal.

To enable you to create the most authentic game possible, we have assembled a library of assets for you to use in in the development of your game. Please note, these assets are provided for your convenience but all brand representations must remain unmodified, with the exception of proportional scale.

Thanks for the link! The prize is rather unique and would be somewhat delicious, but I balk at the idea that it has to be a "Zero Punctuation" game. Hmm.

As awesome as that'd be, this is a Flash-only comp. Entries need to be browser-based, and I don't think Chippit would be keen on converting the entire game to Flash. :P

Also:

Here are some items that WILL get your submission disqualified:

* Excessive vulgarity, lewdness or profanity

In a ZP game? Double standards much? :\

EDIT: Also, it appears that the game needs to be Zero Punctuation-themed.

Guess I should have read.
I recon they guys who created the 2D flash version of Portal should reskin to ZP, and it'd be a hit.

Personally, I don't think they have any business trying to claim full rights to all games submitted: "* All games submitted to The Escapist become property of The Escapist. The Escapist reserves all rights to publication, re-publication and distribution." I ain't gettin' in no plane.

When Aeq told me about this contest I said "Y'know, I'd make a game where you had to put together ZP scenes in response to certain games and then your character 'submitted them to youtube' and you got points for it according to some alg. People would always complain that you were running out of creativity, but the whole point was that as soon as you stopped being ornery and upset like Yahtzee, you got laid."

He laughed for half an hour.

being the art resource skinflint that I am, I'm enticed by doing something using his art style. Its simple geometry conveys a lot of meaning and good use of cut-out pictures has already been done extensively by Nandrew.

Exactly. Basically, they're asking people to create a marketing tool.

For nothing.

No thanks.

My great idea for this one is called "Typing with One Hand"
Basically, you use one hand for moving Yahtzee around the screen, generally avoiding touching the big evil game running after you and words or phrases appear above your head. Type the word with the other hand and Yahtzee shoots the word you typed at it (stuff like "bad design", "quick time events" and "unoriginal"). Each level would only be one game-enemy, but it would have various phases, such as stopping for a while and shooting its own attacks at you which could add the element of multiple words to choose from at a time.
