Animation Exchange (www.animationsa.org) are considering doing a Game Exchange in Cape Town at their monthly meeting on the 12th of March (it's held on either the first or second Thursday of every month at the Michaelis lecture theatre on Hiddign Campus).

For anyone that doesn't know Animation Exchange: it's a meeting of people who work in, or are interested in, the animation industry. People who attend get to share the work or give a presentation on some topic of interest.

Every now and then, when there's enough interest, they do Sound Exchange for musicians and Game Exchange for game developers...

It would be awesome if any of you would present your games, or maybe do a group presentation for the NAG online community, or the entrants from the global game jam, or just come along and show interest.

Games and the animation industry are of course intertwined. Animation Exchange is an excellent place to meet 3D and 2D illustrators and animators who could potentially contribute to our games. There's ALLOT of game interest at Animation Exchange, but very little programming experience (that's where we come in).

There is also a Johannesburg Animation Exchange but it is run separately.

I'd love to be there, but the Cape is a bit far to travel on most days ;)

Any contact details for the similar event up here in GP?

It's these guys that loosely run it http://www.animationsa.org/

I've never been to the Animation Xchange in Joburg, so I don't know what it's like or who is there. The Cape Town one is very friendly, you can just walk in and watch and learn from the presentations and ask questions, even if you're a hobo off the street.

It's Game Xchange in cape town because my brother is organising it. You'd have to speak to the Joburg organisers and find out if they are interested in doing a Game Exchange. I think each month they pick a theme depending on who's available to present. If it's sound guys, then it's Sound Xchange, if it's web guys then Web Xchange etcetera... It's attended largely by animators, allot of whom I think would like to be more involved in games.

The animation xchange website seems to be down... and animationsa.org seems to hide contact details...
I've sent someone who I think is involved a personal message... if I hear anything I'll let you know.

Sorry... got hold of the guy who used to organise the Joburg one and he's moving to Cape Town and right now it looks like no-one is taking over the Joburg animation xchange :(

If you do still want to inquire, or leave your details so that whoever does eventually take over animation exchange knows about you email Matt Kearney shadow.matte@gmail.com

I would love to do something like this, though I'm not really experienced enough yet, and I'm not really part of the game.dev community yet.

P.S. That poster (erm, thing) looks awesome, I just noticed theres a little blue square randomly in front of the grass in the middle.

Thanks Ramperkash! Well spotted on the blue square (I'll sort that out)
