Okay, I really like fighting games. =] So I decided to try and make one in Game Maker. Here is a little project I'm working on. There's still tons more I need to add/fix. But, yeah. This is the basic engine.

Keys:

Arrows - Moves player
M-key - Attack 1
N-key - Attack 2
B-Key - Special

NB: The game restarts once your opponent loses. Press ESC to exit game.


What I still need to add:

- AI
- Game modes
- Jumping
- Blocking
- Ducking
- Counters
- Sequence attacks
- Specials
- Throws
- Time
- Air juggles
- Hit Counters
- Combos
- Proper graphics
- Improved collision
- Original music/sound fx (currently using mk sounds)

*Well, I did say there is alot to add. ;) lol

Ok, that supermove is just way too cool :)

Style alert!

Gameplay wise, I would say that you should try to make the moves have a little larger field of influence so that the effective fighting range leaves a little more room for maneuvering. Plus that would give you room to jump around and for specials etc. I'd suggest a horizontal/vertical split on your moves (M = vertical, N = horizontal) but then again I'm a Soul Calibur nut so that just makes sense to me.

Very cool base you've got to build on there.

And just to completely throw you off, you could always not worry too much about the AI and simply make a brawler with this system you've got. It'd work really well :)

its really interesting , but it seems like when you hit the player close range it makes a few hits not one, or is the sound depicting more then one shot?

hitting the special key twice = instant win. you cant lose...

Otherwise its great, i cant wait to see more

Yep. This is exactly what I'm planning. ;) Every fighter will have a different type of weapon. Each weapon will have both its pros and cons, with regards to damage, range, speed, recoil & recovery etc. :) The fighting arena will also be much larger, so there will be plenty of room to fight in.

Right again D! The game will play very much like Soul Calibur with a bit of Street Fighter flash thrown in the mix. ;) The special moves/combos will only activate once your Power Bar(which I still need to add) reaches the maximum level. You need to charge the bar by striking your opponents.

Definitely. I was planning on leaving the Ai for last anyway.:D The plan (for now) was to have a two player fighting game featuring members of the NAG forum. Then gradually add more people to the game as time goes on. :) The final game won't have finishing moves, like in the demo. So it's all good clean fun. I'm thinking of going the chibi route like Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix. Then creating a more realistic (graphically) game later on.

Haha. Yeah. Once I sort out everyones attack maneuvers, I'll be able to distribute a better damage percentage amongst the weapons. So the power of the specials will definitely be changing.

Lol. I said I was only going to use the Ryu pic once the game is completed. ;) Ryu = Success. Dan = Drama. But yeah, the thought of the "Dan curse", got to me. :D So I changed it.

Anyway, I've been deciding on whether or not I should create two versions of this game. A brawler like Street Fighter with the Nag members and a proper Soul Calibur clone featuring my own characters. What do you guys think? Oh, and does anyone have pictures of Michael James??

Looks like budokan crossed with another world. And like, both of those were kickass. ;)

General complaint: last time I d/l'd this game, it wouldn't run on Vista, so sadly I'm boycotting it due to being too lazy to find that blerry GM converter.

This is very, very cool, Cyberninja. The demo that you have up is pretty cool to start with, and the more recent graphics that you posted, along with the additions that you mentioned, give me quite a bit of hope for this project. ^_^

Heh, funnily enough I seem to recall thinking about making a fighting game myself recently (although I decided against it) - I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out, especially if you do create a "NAG Warriors" edition. ^_^

Just tried out the old basic stick figure one.

It's pretty cool, and the super move ROCKS!

A suggestion for the NAG edition though, look at some of the members whose name represents something cool like for example "FireCat" Use his name in the game and make a sprite that fits.

... and don't forget a unique supermove for each character:) .....

Just a suggestion though, I'm looking forward to the game ;)

That was the plan. :)

I already have a list of people I'm including in the Nag game. About 40 forumites. Overall, the main fighting engine is done. So I'm quite pleased. Just experimenting with art styles for the kenjutsu game.

I'm glad to hear that things are progressing nicely, it seems. ^_^

As to the forumite version, if I may ask, how are you deciding on character moves, special moves and statistics? Similarly, how varied are the fighting styles that you intend on implementing? IT would be a lot of work, but it seems to me that it might be interesting to vary the fighting styles greatly over the forumites...

Well, the character sprites are based mostly on my perception of the online individuals. The rest is based on their "online identity/avatar". :)

Example:

- Dislekcia is into martial arts. So naturally, his character will be a Samurai.
- Brazed will turn people into toast, as the dragon character.
- Azimuth, is the red-headed rock chick, who wields a deadly guitar.
- Gazza can summon giant Mechs to obliterate his opponent.
- Nandrew uses his genius brain, to crush enemies with knowledge.
- Miktar is the Ryu-type character with the ability to summon various video game characters to damage his opponents.
- Toi is the bodybuilder/wrestler type character, that smashes foes into the ground.
- Afflict can absorb the pixels from other characters and turn them into dust.

....and the list goes on. ;)

Theres alot of members planned for the game/s. ^_^ I plan on making it a ongoing series and gradually add more people as time goes on. But don't expect it anytime soon. ^_^ It's gonna take a while.

If I may add a little more, I would suggest a powered suit for Gazza.

I'm really looking forward to these two games. I'm also hoping that a demo will be soon produced for one or both versions. ;)

(I've been wondering recently - what might a forum strategy game look like (presumably limited to only a small selection of units per character)...? Alas, I think that it would be an overly-large project without a fairly small roster. :/

It's still fun to imagine, however. ^_^)

Blueberry is indeed good. Personally, I prefer orange, but blueberry and chocolate are not far behind. ^_^

Its looking excellent Cyberninja! :) Ive finally had time to play the one in the first posts, and have to agree with dis that the power move is awesome.

Secondly, I like the look of the new screen shot, I think it looks like a lot of fun to play and will have a ton of funny moments in it :P

If everybody is allowed to make a request for their character, then I want to be a short kid on stilts :P (dont ask me why)
