Read this excellent guide for getting into flash development for free:
http://www.gamepoetry.com/wpress/2008/03/26/make-flash-games-for-free/
Only one problem is it doesn't really mention the runtimes you need: Go for the debug ones on this site, http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, so that you can use the trace() command, which is useful for debugging. ;)
Though the only thing I couldn't find that's free: is a good ActionScript 3.0 beginners tutorial. Anyone have any suggestions?

Nyar! Debug Flash runtimes!
Can we break and step through code? I need that so hard.

Only problem is you have to use FlashDevelop, but FlashDevelop is brilliant for AS3 only projects so it's no big.

Either you're spamming or you're being stupid. Either is not a good idea.
This thread is about making flash games with tools that don't cost anything. What you do with your game after it's done is up to you.

And because you own the copyright of the game someone else selling it without your consent is illegal.

why indeed? surely it must be for the experience alone and only for the experience as no other reason seems very viable other than that it would be for the experience.

FFS! Did you even read dislekcia's, FuzzYspo0N's or my reply?!
Also if this is a lame attempt at sarcasm, please don't bother in the future...
*shuts up about diction...*
EDIT: Sorry about overreacting a bit but my point still stands: read before you post.

Great thread, by the way. Just used this to secure myself this very nice Flash IDE and I'm fiddling about now. I wanna convert one or two of my current projects to Flash once I've learned the ropes and see how they turn out. :)

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/garbage_collection.html
This is an article detailing how Actionscript 3 ( the de-facto in Flash scripting ;) ) performs its garbage collection. Posted it on request, and it's very useful if you want to understand how AS3 handles memory problems.
It's very good. Both the article and the garbage collector. :D
