Who wants to start a team with me?

I have Android dev experience, so I need an artist and a designer.

Ooh, this couples quite nicely with the announcement of the paid android store coming to ZA.

I havent tried android dev yet, but I might take a look at doing something for this.

Let me know if you want to team up. The deadline is 1 June, so it's not a lot of time.

Not working in Unity I suppose? (because I'll probably have an Android Unity addon by then)...

I was thinking that if I were to make any game for Android it would be my little Press Tilda game http://www.nag.co.za/forums/showthread.php?13320-Press-Tilda-(GGJ)...

Just because I reckon that there are a lot of tech-savvy people preferring the Android platform so a spy/ninja/hacker themed platform may do well there. And the hacking elements could be easily altered to work with touch commands...

Fuzzy sent me this link of a game that also does awesome espionage things, although it has very different mechanics, somehow they both just feel Android. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TM5x72fk6o (although neither of these games will be the next Fruit Ninja, it is quite a niche market)

Also my game deserves a release after a year and a half, just putting it out there :)

Hmmm... actually this isn't really a gaming competition at all... and, considering the criteria for judging, even a pretty good game could be beaten out by an email client or fitness gadget.

It has pretty much got to be a social game to win that prize... I don't foresee any of the games I would be keen to develop fulfilling the "Effective Use of the Android Platform" or "Indispensability" criteria.

And since it is winner takes all, I don't really like those odds.

Games are in the "Entertainment" catagory.

Yes, Ah! But the judging is based on:

Judges will consider each entry under the following equally-weighted judging criteria: Originality of Concept, Effective Use of the Android Platform, Polish and Appeal, and Indispensability.

Which is a lot easier to achieve as an app. Note "Fun" is not noted there. Evan a really really really fun game could fail to meet the judging criteria. "Indispensability" in particular is hard to achieve with a game.

I'm not saying it cannot be done, I'm just saying that as competitions go this is going to be a really tough one to win, and because it is winner take all, and there is that 6 week "You might win it, just keep polishing your app" period, and because it's really hard to make money on Android, my keeness is dampened a bit :(

Of course if there are very few entrants into this competition... and there may be... then the chances for a game go up!

I'd still suggest a social game that uses the facebook connectivity... this competition really doesn't feel like a games competition... since "Fun" is not a factor, a Farmville game stands a good chance of winning.
