Wow, that's quite an opportunity!
Thank you very much for sharing it. ^_^
Am I correct in thinking that the positions are intended for people located in or near (or willing to relocate to) Johannesburg?

Yes.
Personally I'd add that Luma's office is really cool, nice vibe and a lot of cool people :) Also, you'd get to learn from Coolhand, the single most experienced developer in the country. Bar none.

Hmm... Well, it's certainly very tempting indeed...
It also, however, calls for further thought once I've slept, I think. ^^;

A bit dramatic there D, but thanks for shifting my ego up a gear ;)
@ Thaumaturge: Yes, any position at Luma would be on site in our studio in Blairgowrie, Randburg, Joburg.
Anyone else have any other questions that I overlooked?

Fair enough, and thank you both. ^_^
I want to look at my CV for a cleanup, as well as find somewhere to host Ludus Magicus (I might have another shot at hosting it by parts on filecloset, if that's working for me again), but I should hopefully have my email off tonight or tomorrow (well, the latter is "later today", technically). ^_^

i can host for you, is it just files? i got two servers ready for action?
Thaumaturge

That would be great, thank you! ^_^
It will probably just be one zip file (which might be a little under 16MB big - I want to be confident of having the latest version).
My only real hesitation is that I don't know for how long I'll want it to be hosted... (since I don't know when I'll manage to get around to getting that webspace that I want (I've wanted to have a complete game before I do so, but I'm starting to think that I shouldn't wait...).)

If I were still studying and keen on getting into the industry, I'd move to Jhb and switch to UNISA for this kind of job. FYI ;)

I'm not really looking to go into this field. I'm studying BEng(E&E with CS) and I intend to go into that field. Already got my foot in the door in that field. Just thought maybe I could make some spare cash, that's all. But for others who are considering doing game dev as a living, I think you should strongly consider dislekcia's advice.

I'm not trying to single you out liquid.silver, but for anyone else reading this thread:
Luma Arcade is not interested in obtaining interns or hiring people who are "looking for spare cash". We are only interested in hiring people who are looking at fitting in with us for the long term and who will become part of our team. We are small and closely knit, and do not want to be looking for new employees every 3 months. We will also be investing a lot of time and money in training anyone who comes to work for us, and do not want that to be wasted on someone who is not intending to stick around.
Cool :)

I understand 100%. If i was in your position i would probably do exactly the same. I was just uncertain of what the situation is.
On another note, you think you could say if anyone from the forums get a job? Just for interest's sake.
Coolhand
24-06-2008, 06:27 PM
I'm pretty sure that anyone from the forums who may get a job here would be the first to say so!
And if for some reason they didn't, I would guess that it would be because they wouldn't want to :)

I'd apply but there are two problems :(
1. Is highlighted, I have never gotten over my mental block with maths. Sure I can do it, but I am predominantly a right brained person (Good at problem solving, ****e at logical puzzles :D )
2. I am in London... which means the commute would be a killer :D
I do hope you do find someone, Luke, it is genuinely an excellent opportunity for a bright young person
Edit: Third reason,
3. I am far too humble and suffer from 'my work is never good enough' mentality :D
(Yes, that is why you guys don't see a lot of games produced by me, they tend to fizzle out because I think its crap... something that is going to change soon, very soon)

Kensei, if you were in the country I'd have recommended you for the job in a heartbeat. I was actually rather upset when I couldn't :(
You'd fit in well at Luma and you'd get the hang of the maths quickly enough - especially because it's not theoretical, you're actually doing it all the time without noticing.

Exactly. It's not like you're expected to memorize a thousand formulas. All you really need is to be able to understand mathematics enough to know how to approach the problems that you will encounter.
