This engine is the most amazing one i have in fact ever seen,
Besides for its leetness, just the simplistic methods they have created for beginner developers to release next gen games.
check the engine interface, like blenders point and click, but with next gen backend.

I feel its beyond worth looking out for Check out some of these shots
Specular bloom is used to give the elf's knife a dramatic appearance

On the left is source art comprised of 1.2 million polygons. On the right is the resulting in game model comprised of just a couple thousand polygons

Each particle here casts a shadow into the scene and is affected by motion blur

These arent even nearly what the engine is about, checkout their page at
www.projectoffset.com
http://www.projectoffset.com/downloads.html
there are the videos or checkout youtube. The game they are making is gonna blow peoples minds as well.
Above all, my favourite quote off their page...
The Offset Engine is a complete platform for creating next generation games. Though it aims to be a top tier engine, OE is not just built with large developers in mind. Every aspect of the engine is designed around the goal of reducing development time and cost, while empowering designers and artists with the tools they need to create spectacular visual effects and immersive environments.

Wow, this looks very interesting!
I've bookmarked the main page that you linked to - thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, FuzzYspo0N! ^_^
I may have missed it (I skimmed over a page or two, and am a bit tired at the moment) - are they planning on releasing their engine (whether commercially or for free) for others to use?

Yea it is being released for sale (from what i hear) and the main quote i said there is where the kick comes in, its most likely not gonna cost a commercial amount (even if it does, its so worth it)
To make stunning graphics with such an easy interface? its killer
They have an IRc channel if you idle on irc. Otherwise all the info i have or have seen is on their site and you tube.
You have to watch that one game trailer, its ridiculous :D
Im definitely going to get myself a copy :D im looking forward to trying it!
This is a good find, and what makes it interesting is the ease it gives. This could easily become extremely popular with people like Game Maker has.
If engines were all aimed at providing ease and power like this one, the game development communities would grow alot faster. :)
This is a bit off topic, but if you get a copy of this, or any other engine, would you be able to buy more liscences for it, at reduced cost for using within a group of persons or a company?

Guys, don't forget that there are tons of other next-gen engines out there that are very similar to this. Systems like Anark, theProdduckt, Virtools, Quest3D, etc. Each of them has an "easier to use than an IDE" interface and interactive shading/scripting/blah.
Why aren't they making a super-huge splash then? Why haven't you heard of them?
The answer is easy: It always comes down to the amount of content required. As soon as you go 3D, especially next-gen 3D with shaders up the wazoo and extra texture-info requirements, you exponentially boost the amount of time required to actually produce anything. Your average time-to-playing-something-on-screen becomes far too long to hold people's interest.
So far the only system doing something about that is theProdduckt with their procedural generation stuff. Even then, their interface is quite possibly the most difficult to understand.
Remember, the engine has very little to do with how fun a game is.

For certain i totally agree dis
There is also a huge community building libaries of images/shaders/textures (as with every other next gen engine ) there are stores of stuff ready to use for the engine.
Above that, i wasnt merely punting the ENGINE as much as im punting the GAME. Project offset, Epic FPS fantasy game? on such a ridiculou scale? i cant wait for such AWESOME gameplay. Totally fun to me

lol emphasis FTW.
PROJECT OFFSET, is a game. OFFSET ENGINE, is the engine. Please note my subject, and main deal of what im referring to is the game, not the engine. What im saying above is the engine will empower the guys who dream of making games to make games that are amazing looking as well as amazing gameplay

Ah, fair enough, and thanks. ^_^

Good points both. ^_^
As to the first, that sort of research is something that I really ought to get around to starting in on in the fairly near future - although admittedly I suppose that I probably won't go for something next-gen.
As to the second, I do agree. Of course, if one is willing to go to the effort of content-generation, then having such an engine should reduce the development time, and allow for more time devoted to the game itself than if one were to attempt to create an engine as well.
