Hi all,

Been some time. Was wondering if anyone was working on a project, for the soon to be released Game Maker studio, which allows ports to Android/iOS/HTLM5.

Is anyone thinking of making a game for the Android market place? Seems like a good match between the gaming market for mobiles, and game maker as an IDE.

P.S. Any thoughts on a game.dev colaboration attemp for this?

I'd love to make apps for Android, especially with Game Maker. Unfortunately, its going to be VERY expensive.

The beta is a closed beta isn't it?
From what ive seen you can hardly test any of the export features within the beta.

Expected retail price for Game Maker Studio is $200.00 Coupled with a once of registration on the Android market of $25, it can hardly be seen as VERY expensive.

Yeah, that's not crazy expensive...

Just got this of the Game Maker Community forums.

The price is:

$99 for the base: Windows C++ runner and Mac exports, along with all Studio's new features.

$200 each for the additional export modules - iOS, Android, HTML5, and Symbian. This does not cover costs such as Apple's iOS developer licensing (around $99?). You will also require a Mac to publish to iOS as far as I know - this is Apple's requirement, not anything YYG could have bypassed.

So around $324 for GM:Studio, Android module, and registration with android market. Thas at just under R2500.00 to produce games for a multi million client base, on a product that most of us are VERY familiar with.

Only $99 for the Game maker studio base.

Just an update. I installed the BETA, downloaded all the required API's and SDK's for Java, and was able to upload a test game to my wifes phone on the first attempt, with zero problems.

Hey guys, I'm quite new to this. Want to try and do something simple first, for mobile.

What are your thoughts on UDK?

UDK isnt something simple for your first game. I would recommend you take advantage of this prime opportunity to try out Game Maker Studio for your mobile development. When you are comfortable making games you can look to things like UDK which are rather more advanced.

That being said, the fiddling I did in the UDK was pretty cool, though it can become quite confusing to work in if you dont know where to look for things.

Just tested out the beta, it works surprisingly easy. The only thing I still need to figure out is how the resolution works and how its going to adapt to different screen sizes on different types of devices.

Also, if you guys put it in that way, I guess its not expensive at all. :P

What i liked with GMS is that they decided to use a compiler.
way faster than the runner.
the ability to develop for other platforms (android, iOS) is a plus.

I'm a bit on the tight budget.
i use bengu for most of my multi-platform works.
But it's syntax is a bit horrid.

You mean you guys didn't buy GM HTML5 when it was $20 and they said you'd get studio for free? ;)

Also, R800 isn't that bad for all the awesome GM has let me do. Keen to try out the iOS stuffs.

I believe it $99 for gm studio.
+ $99 for html5 export
+ $199 for android
+ $199 for iOS

now explain why i would not just buy unity instead.
Or learn to program the non lazy way using a free tool such as bengu.

Why are there 2 posts... =/
Edit button fail.

Well its simple for us who know and love Game Maker to make that choice. You are going to use the software you are comfortable with.
Plus, single source code, multi-platform distribution. No need to port your code. And how exactly is using Game maker, and the game maker language the "lazy way"?

If you know unity, and you prefer it over Game maker, then their is no reason for you to NOT buy Unity over Game maker.

P.S. Hey Dis. Was actually planning to buy GM:HTML5 the day I got the email thanking me for my participation in the BETA /facepalm

+ $1,500 for Unity Pro
+ $1,500 for Android Pro (or +$400 for Android basic)
+ $1,500 for iOS Pro (or +$400 for iPhone basic)
+ $??? for a 2D package like "2D Toolkit" if you wanna turn Uniy into something a bit more customised for 2D without having to code it all yourself.

lol, @ "learn to program the non lazy way". Some of us are not learning but trying to finish a commercial product as fast as possible and will use any tool that can speed up the dev process.

Objectively: Because it's 10% of the cost of Unity? I now own both - GM is still my preferred prototyping environment. I have to do 0 setup to get to the meat of a game idea.

Or you could do it the non-lazy way and set bits with a magnet and a needle... What's with the antagonism? Tools are tools, they don't need defending from each other. And it's not like there aren't free versions of Game Maker OR Unity to learn with. It's only once you want to start extracting cash money from them that you need to pay, which seems reasonable to me.

Doh. I bought HTML5 well before the beta period expired - mainly because I was trying to see if I could export DD to HTML5 easily. It turned out I couldn't ;)

Dis, does the "Use synchronization to avoid tearing" function, work in the full version of Game Maker Studio? I tried using it in the Beta version, but it didn't seem to work. Also, any ideas if that option will still be available when exporting to Android/iOS devices?

No idea. I would assume it does. It's not like it's too hard to have something wait for a retrace before it starts drawing...

I must admit, GM: Studio is pretty damn awesome! I've been fiddling around with screen tilts, joysticks and the lot for about a week now. That pdf is very helpful. I <3 yoyogames. :D
