I haven't tried Unity3D 2.5 myself yet... And I'm going to stay stuck with Mac because I'm developing for iPhone. But to everyone else please enjoy the Unity3D Windows goodness.

I got the Unity 1 month PC beta from the Global Game Challenge... Haven't had time to try it out yet.
TBH, I used to do a lot of work in systems like EON and Virtools, Unity just seems like more of the same. But I'll give it a go at some point. Hope it's not too content focused.

Its very cool, iv been watching and listening to unity for a long time , theres obvious hooks and its still growing but its a gREAT engine overall. Especially for casual/quick games. And now that its on pc, damn cool. You should see some unity stuff from me soon :)

The IDE is the great thing about Unity3D. It's a decent engine and all. But you'll shave months off your development because of the workflow. What I mean is that your game is constantly playable in a window and you can navigate through it in the editor while playing and select, view and edit the properties of any object while playing.
Though I have heard that it's not so great for big teams. But for smaller projects it's unparalleled (as far as I can tell).
It's a bit clumsy to get a 2D game working. You'll need to download the spritemanager class (there's allot of user created content out there already) http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=17864
anyway... check out the link, if you can code in C# or javascript Unity3D is easy for get into. It could use a few more beginner tutorials, but it's a work in progress.

yeah :( the indie licence is $200.
Though if it saves you one week of development time it's already paid for itself.

Unity is a very good engine, especially for casual and indie titles. Not to say it can't handle bigger things though like maybe an MMORPG (http://www.fusionfall.com/).
We are currently developing our iPhone titles using Unity iPhone (too bad its not on windows like Unity 2.5). I also like that it is so easy to develop games that makes use of the web player so you can easily run them on your web page.
On the languages side, it supports C#, JavaScript and BOO and makes use of Mono.
I'm not gonna go into all the details about the engine, you can get that on their site (http://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/unity-2.5) and read what other people think (http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine_details.php?id=256). All I will say is that I love this engine and is quite happy with how far we progressed developing our casual titles with it, in the time we did.

Unity is very sexy indeed :). Pity about lack of iPhone support on windows though, which is possible but I guess is illegal/frowned upon by the mighty blue apple ;). I'm thinking they should maybe implement a SAAS iPhone compiler and run it like an online renderfarm. Would make me happpy, I dont want to buy an apple :D.
A lot of people that I have spoken to are hesitant about it because of the lack of source, but in all honesty, theres not a lot that you cant do in the editor, and if you need more chances are that Unity isnt going to fit your huge-ass development bill anyway. Just an IMO.
There does seem to be a bug in their radiosity code though, I cant generate lightmaps under windows, the editor just munches all my RAM and then quits without explaining itself [although that might be because theres no RAM left to explain itself through ;)].

Post that bug up onto the forums, one of the developers at Unity usually replies within hours.
I have noticed in the mac version of Unity I sometimes make it crash without it explaining the error (this happened to me allot when I was experimenting with Physics.IgnoreCollisions() ) but all those times were my fault (though a warning rather than a crash would have been nice)
As for unity not providing the source, Torque provides the source, but Torque also comes with bugs. With Unity3D if there are bugs the development team fixes them, not the end-user.
I'd rather not spend time mucking about in the engine, without having built the engine myself it would take me ages to effectively implement any new feature, which defeats the purpose of getting a third party engine in the first place (which is to save you time and money and make a profit)
Unity3D is extensible with .dll files if it helps.

Problem is that you might have to wait a while for those bugs to be fixed, or before they release a version with the bugs fixed even if a fixed build have been with them for a while.
With Torque the development team fixes them too, but they also have the community poking around in the engine and posting fixes so you might get a fix much sooner.

you can get the source for unity too. but they encourage you to make games and not hack the engine.

and they don't even bother to tell you how much you'll have to fork out for that ;)

Awesome FuzzySpoon!!
Glad to hear you're enjoying Unity3D. I of course have some vested interest in getting people to try it out because we'll need some more Unity3D programmers at some point.
Look forward to seeing your cat-fight!
