Just a heads up.

Do you want to develop computer games without spending countless hours learning how to become a programmer?

Game Maker allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code. Using easy to learn drag-and-drop actions, you can create professional looking games within very little time. You can make games with:

* Backgrounds, Sprites and Images
* Animated Graphics
* Basic sound functions, Special effects, 3D music, CD music
* Even 3d games!

And when you've become more experienced, there is a built-in programming language which gives you the full flexibility of creating games with Game Maker.

The Lite Edition is meant for those taking their first steps on the path of developing games. It can be used for free but is limited in its functionality. When you are using Game Maker regularly you are strongly recommended to upgrade it to the Pro Edition for $25.

What about those who already have GM7 PRO, do we also have to pay the $25 or do we get discount or something?

Isn't the upgrade free for customers who bought it?

You have to pay the $25 if you bought GM7 before 1 Jan 2010, the upgrade is free for people that bought it from 1 Jan 2010 on

That's a bit of a rip-off. Oh well. Guess they have to make money somehow.

I'm pretty sure its january 1 2009 not 2010

Free/Lite and Upgraded/Pro:
Users who purchased the Pro version of Game Maker 7 at any time during 2009 will receive a free upgrade to Game Maker 8 Pro. If you upgraded prior to 2009 you will need to purchase the upgrade (current cost $25) if you wish to make use of the benefits provided to supporters in the new version.

as for splash screens don't they already exist in 7?
I thought 8 just added drag and drop functionality.

I got GM8 as a Christmas present. I paid for GM6 back in 2005. For a program I've used more than any other for nearly five years, $20 was a bargain! But I'm not sure I'd've paid for GM8 myself if I'd had to. The improvements are spiffy and make a lot of things more convenient, but I'm not sure they're worth the capital outlay.

Basically, if the idea of Trigger events (labelled user-defined events with predefined conditions), an AGS-level code editor, a vastly improved sprite editor and transparency handling, as well as circular or diamond shaped bounding boxes keeps you up at night, buy it. If not, GM7's still serviceable.

My main focus in the script editor... How do the changes feel? Do we finally have syntax checks on inline tokens? I would kill to get that, it'd stop all those stupid spelling-error-in-variable-name bugs.

The new GM code editing is epic! It is so much better then before that you will have eyegasms, true story
