Has anyone trying publishing to web with GameMaker? Can you host the game from your own site?
I've been toying with a prototype for a 2D social game which I'd like to put on the web but I don't want to fiddle with Flash or Java and I don't know even Unity3D to do 2D stuff. I know GameMaker has a publish function but has anyone tried it?

AFAIK the game is hosted by YoYoGames at that point... I don't think you'd have any of the "social" elements you're assuming you'd get though, those would have to be coded by you and would probably require a server from your end to store data and handle connections from individual game instances.

...and its not as easy as Game Maker leads you to believe!! Lag is a bitch, and unless you're using something like Dis' framework, you gonna battle!! Unless you got super ninja skills, like Dis, or the Pope!!

Nah, I'm not going to be focusing on the social networking. Just the game play. I wouldn't mind persisting the player's progress though.
