So I've decided on this little concept of a game that is still in the planning stage where you start out as a trainee captain on a space ship (There will be four races to choose from namely: Humans, Cyborgs, Cilians and Machetes).

Each with their own types of ships. I have obtained an incredible sprite chart with the ships on of which I will base my story and gameplay.

You will start of as a trainee and progress through the game and get promoted to bigger ships. The mission concept will be massive and I plan on creating hundreds of hours of gameplay. With each race having about twenty two ships - meaning twenty two promotions with at least ten or twelve missions in between.

Well that's the main concept of the game. I need to add more details and a story line for each of my races - who will each have a very unique character - YOU.

Every race will have it's own unique attributes that makes it distinctly different from the other races - putting you at certain "unfair" advantages during some missions of the game.

This concept is bigger than anything I have ever done and I'm up to any and every suggestion that you guys have for me.

I have re-created games like the gameboy advance Pokemon and other titles so I'm not entirely new to game creating, I'm planning on development on three different platform including using GM7.

Anyway, I'm awaiting your input in this: Shoot

An elephant is eaten one spoonful at a time.

Pick your main platform and start working on the most important elements of gameplay. I would suggest GM7 because it's easier to change whole swaths of your game and you won't get stuck writing collision code or other "engine level" functionality up front.

Take a look at Space Rangers 2 if you can - it is not exactly the same concept but it does provide a very open-ended gameplay mechanic.

And I am with D on this, an elephant is eaten one spoonful at a time - build a small prototype first then make it big :)

Definitely will start with a prototype. I'm meeting up with my cousin this weekend to discuss the creation. GM 7 is my first choice as well.

But this game is still in the very early planning stage. I will worry about the platform later.

I have decided on an RTS as I have created a few in the last three years.
I will have at least three people helping me with this project. I will post a demo as soon as I have started with the basics.

I have a resource plan, but I would like to create one. I am currently thinking of using moons and empty planets to acquire resources in the game. Basically taking over a planet so that resources can be used until a planet's resources are depleted. Then you'd have to move to another planet etc.
