Divine Will is a multiplayer god-sim where the players must use their godly powers to convert all the souls on board to them. Souls can reside in Heaven, Hell and on Earth and the player must manage how much he has in each.

Souls on Earth are persuaded by miracles, malevolent or benign and is the main playing area for the players. When a person dies the player controlling the soul can decide to help their ascension to heaven, damn them to hell or smack them back to reality. The more souls the player has in heaven unlocks extra benign spells as well as spells for the elements Air and Water. Sending souls to hell unlocks extra evil spells as well as the elements Earth and Fire.

Souls on Earth also dictate the players sphere of influence, so it's no use simply killing everyone. Of course, sending souls to influence others puts them in danger of being influenced too!

Interesting... It sounds a little like Black and White (Which, on having returned to the competition thread, seems to have been your intent ^_^), but with a more interesting (and, I think, less arbitrary) means of acquiring new powers.

All in all, it sounds good thus far. ^_^

Do you plan on having rival deities? If not, from where does the challenge come? What acts against the player converting souls?

Finally, what do dead souls believe? Can they be influenced, do they believe in the player, or do they believe whatever they did when alive?

I doubt that there will be time for it, but it sounds as though this game could be interesting as a multiplayer experience...

So it's a multiplayer meaning you play against another human deity (computer opponents might come later). Souls which are killed and believe you are sent to your heaven or hell and technically are "souls in the bank" as they can not be converted. However this does dwindle your influence on Earth so you'll have to balance how many you keep in the here-after and how many you keep on Earth.

After chatting to Gazza_N I feel once you possess enough souls in a domain you'll be able to re-incarnate some and send them back to Earth but then, of course, you'll lose your power in that sphere.

The trick of the game is that it's all about balance. There's a sense of Good and Evil by sending souls to Heaven or Hell but it becomes arbitrary as both domains benefit you, the player. In this exploration of Death, I want to show that your individual death is only part of a greater story happening.

So it's a multiplayer

Eheh, sorry, I feel silly for having missed that. ^^;;

(Admittedly, I don't seem to be at my best tonight. >_<)

However, the game as you've described it sounds good to me, and I rather like the philosophy that it conveys (and that it conveys some at all ;)). ^_^

Unfortunately, I'm removing my entry from Comp 19; instead I'm going to be polishing some of the games I've uploaded on my GGE account, specifically adding multiplayer functionality to Adventure Quest 2.

Fair enough - it's a pity, but it sounds as though it's probably a wise decision. ^_^
