Two of the most successful franchises ever, Pokemon and Lego combined into a glorious MMO.

Cities, people, pokemon etc. would all be made out of lego.
The battles would be fast turn-based like WoW and the leveling system would be similar, but more intensive than WoW.

Items would include all the balls, with a master ball being an extremely rare drop from dungeon end bosses as well as gear that enhances stats such as Luck, Agility, Intelligence.

Bosses would be the obvious like Mew Two.
There would be massive raids comprising of 40 trainers to beat these end game raids.
Early raids would be things like "The Abandoned Lighthouse" with ghost mobs.

Pre-expansion only the original world will exist. That being Kanto.
The first expansion: Lego Pokemon Online: Journey to Johto would introduce Johto.
And the second expansion, Lego Pokemon Online:Hoenn, A New Hope would introduce Hoenn.

The Lego elements would be rife. Shattering lego pokemon etc. but attacks would be done originally.
So much more to think about.....

er, Fuzzyspoon. If I understand this correctly, this isn't an idea he wants to make himself, it's just an idea he had and would like to see one day.

I can see that gaining some following, if it were handled well (and presuming, of course, that it were handled by the IP owners (or someone licensed by them, of course) and didn't get hit with a cease and desist ;)).

At the moment, however, the gameplay sounds very similar to that of "standard" MMO games, from what I've gathered - I wonder whether this concept wouldn't benefit from something different. At the least, enemy NPCs should probably be NPC trainers carrying particular pokeballs, or wild pokemon - allowing players to not only battle said mobs, but gain by the possibility of catching new pokemon. In the latter case I would suggest, however, that one be careful to not spam the player with pokemon that they've faced and caught too often already. Nevertheless, even this feels a little too similar to the gameplay of "standard" MMO games for my liking... :/

One thing that I'd suggest is making strong use of the Lego licence - the construction of buildings (and perhaps defences?) and vehicles, for example, or perhaps the use of special pieces to construct Pokemon-related items (I'm not terribly familiar with the range here, but pokedexes (is that the correct term?) come to mind - different pieces offering varying advantages, such as range and depth and breadth of data).

(The above is based on my impression of such games - I've played few multiplayer online games, and most of those haven't been of the standard sort, I don't think.)

I have come across two different versions of MMORPG's based on Pokemon. I just never associated pokemon with lego, is there pokemon lego?

Anyway

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/PokemonOnline (this one looks semi official)
http://www.theonlinepokemonproject.com/Download.html (This looks fan based)

Haven't ever downloaded or played the games but you can view game play footage on the first link over at great games experiment. Have to love that place :)

I don't know; personally the idea of lego AND pokemon is just too sickeningly sweet. I know the eastern countries can handle "cute" better than the rest of the West, but by how much.

Lego MMO: Yes! and especially if you give it a "Spore-like tonnes of editors" flavour and I can build my own house, car, etc.

Pokemon MMO: Yes! I loved the series when it first aired in SA and I can see myself exploring a land to catch em all and get badges.

Lego Pokemon - It's like cocaine on an already candy coated cupcake. If the sugar rush doesn't get you, something else will.

i think that the game would be cool though, wonder if i would play it though, i thought pokemon died. in truth i got bored when they added more pokemon, i just like the first 151. mabye i'd just play the origanal.

Unfortunately my experience with MMORPGs hampers my ability to give a completely accurate view (Haven't played with other people online since Diablo... 1)

I am assuming you suggesting it as an MMORPG (Or... in truth MMOJRPG ^_^ ) because that is the tendency of the gaming market at the moment... that and casual games.
The problem would be 'stickiness' of the game - you have to bear in mind that there will be the freaks who play constantly and will capture all the pokemon within weeks - you need more to keep them playing.

Yes, you can have PvP... but if I remember correctly the advantage of MMOs is their diversity and roles you can play.
Will you be able to play co-op with others or will it be solely PvP and PvE?
What kind of trading mechanisms will you have (remember, people always want more 'stuff' - ie weapons and armour and...)
And, what Thaumaturge touched on, what will make it want people stop playing their current MMO and play this one?

Remember, sometimes it is not always a good thing to push two good things together to make a 'better' game. You risk having all the aspects but nothing that shines (ie a jack of all trades)

Edit: I wonder if you could make a single player version of this first...

As I said, lots to think about but heres a start:

You will be able to play co-op in quests etc.
You will have many professions, ranging from cookery to ball-crafting to poke-doctor.
Trading will be similar to WoW and currency will play little role to avoid too much inflation such has been seen in WoW.
Why will people want to drop WoW/other MMO's and play it?
Obvious reason is: People love lego and pokemon ;)
It will cater very much for both casuals and hardcores (unlike WoW currently as its favoring those damn scrub casuals ;))

I'll keep thinking about it!

If anyone hasn't played the RPG's on Gameboy, they are not true gamers ;)
Pokemon is the most successful RPG series of all time, check the Guiness Gamers Edition if you don't believe me :)

Lol, sorry to say as interesting as it was Chrono Trigger to me was an over all way better RPG. Guess I'm more of a story guy :P

Have to admit though I spent hours on those damn pokemon games... addictive.

Lol that looks awesome, anyway Interesting enough you can also build things in Second Life, that completely made me download and play the game. I built a couple of things it got easier as you went along, the only thing that sucked was that I didn't enjoy the game :P So whats the use of building stuff your never gona use.

As for building in A pokemon game... I don't think that's the games focus.
