Submission for IGF 2010 entries has longed passed and I've just been reading 10 Indie Games To Watch Out For In 2010 (http://www.indiegames.com/blog/2009/12/10_indie_games_to_watch_out_fo.html) on IndieGames.com and I was idling thinking "What If" about my War Machine entry.
What would it take to get a game worthy enough to enter into the comp? Why hasn't someone from Game.Dev entered before?
Or have they?

Well, you'd have to be confident enough to stake a $95 entrance fee on it.

Doesn't IndieGames have a slightly different agenda to IGF... IndieGames definitely seems to crave a large dose of craziness in their gameplay, I haven't really been following IGF, but I imagine it's slightly more serious, though still a lot more crazy orientated than the oscars... didn't the Undead Samurai Dishwasher win the IGF once upon a time?

We nearly submitted SpaceHack just after DBP in 2008, but we hadn't heard anything positive from the competition at that stage yet and didn't have a PC-friendly version. Too busy just trying to survive cash-wise to really focus on getting it nicely playable on PC without a controller. Should probably have entered, who knows?

Dishwasher won the first DBP in 2007, it may have won a category in the IGF but I don't specifically remember that.

So is it just serious polish then? Or does it need something more?

Ah, I stand corrected... Just judging by previous winners, while it needs to be polished, you can pick a style that easy to work with. However much more important than polish in this competition is having an innovative concept and making it fun.
If you have a fun game you could still get some very valuable exposure without the polish. Just being on a list like that is probably worth more than a $3000 prize.
