There's now a DEFCON A.I. API. This is epic... If you haven't played DEFCON and haven't watched Wargames, do yourself a favor and go do both. Right now.

Done?

Good, now you'll be in the right mindset to make your own DEFCON-playing AIs and hope Matthew Broderick doesn't appear to mess up your plans of world domination.

Looks brilliant, played the game Uplink by the same developers, was very well thought out and I’m sure this will also be a very good playing game.

The AI API is a brilliant idea, maybe a comp in future that has a user interface and fits two user implemented AI’s together to do battle, AI-Tanks or something along those lines…something a lot simpler that world domination

Thanks for the link … great stuff!!

Um. DEFCON has been out for ages now. You do know that, right?

Oops...er...this was gonna be part of my huge Game 09 report back...

I'M WORKING ON IT, CHIPPIT, I SWEARS!!!

From what I saw of this being demonstrated, the API is incredibly simple to use and you can use C++ to create the bot. There is currently a competition going on about who can make the best AI bot for DEFCON yet another way that Introversion is being awesome.

Well I guess that from 2006 when this specific game was released could be seen as ages…unless you are talking about DEFCON as a state measure for the US, think anybody that has watched movies knows that it comes along way. I mean, you talked about wargames, that was somewhere in the eighties, still have it on original VHS.

Uplink was released in 2001, when playing games was still a big part of my spare time, so this particular game is new to me, although I played Missile Command, way back when, around the same time as wargames…

The bestest bot is surely one that can use nuke trails to draw pretty pictures on screen.

Whoa - or keeping in spirit of Wargames, one that can similarly draw a tic-tac-toe grid and play a game against itself.

Since you can program your bot in C++, Lua or Python; I actually want to give this a shot. Of course it means I'm gonna have to buy the game, does anyone know if it's available on Steam?

I'm going to try and get the guy who wrote Prehysteria to work on it too; he's busy writing Python for Project Reality (a Battlefield 2 mod).

I heard Lionhead are entering too. They're working on a bot that not only plays the game against you, but also interacts with you based on your emotional responses.

You also get to choose whether or not it's gay.

3D Realms' project would be called "DEFCON Bot Forever". Don't hold your breath.

Is the developer Han? Then you could call it Han's Silo... (SimCity 3000 reference to a reference from, well, you know.)
