well I chose to put this in a new thread rather than using my previous one because
I scrapped the previous idea of this game and started again.
this is the first proper test.
you start with 2 spells
in a very empty snowfield place filled with chill demons
currently no goal, but see how long you can survive.
Controls:
Up - up arrow
Down - Down arrow
Left - left arrow
Right - right arrow
Active ready/flow cast - Left mouse
Active cast while ready - Right mouse
Change spell - Mouse wheel
Scroll world - hold control and move mouse (limited range no purpose yet, future use: marksman spells)

I suggest you look at Crimsonland for ideas, because your game is very similar.

hmm yea crimson land isnt really what im going for in the end
but this is just the test of some of the mechanics, fire spells, getting things to die, and keeping my interface where it should be.
the final target for this game is a rpg.
and yea much balancing would be needed I know :)

Is the spell suppose to cast multiple times like is currently?
eg The flame comes from you, then from the end of the flame comes another and another again.

Ah I figured out what is going on, it is actually one long stream but he has a drawing error, causing it to look like three.

if you hold still you can see....but got an idea for a spell...cast 3 magic fireballs that seek and destroy?

lol yea it was a drawing error but if you move around it looks like a flame tail and 2 fireballs that dance about doing your biding, in a whip like effect, I decided I quite like the effect so left it :)

I don't see how the right button is suppose to work, as I can't get it to do anything.

doesn't it increase the size of the flame?

uh i think i left out a control :)
mouse Wheel up/down next/prev spell :)
the first spell is a stream/passive cast spell
the second is an active cast one

I got slack and didn't put in any method of seeing how much charge you've put into it :)
but the amount of time you spend charging it(up to a maximum) determines how much damage it does how long it lasts and supposedly how fast it goes(still not working)

This is a nice start, I would say, SkinkLizzard. ^_^
I like the two spell ideas that you have thus far. In fact I love the fire stream spell - please do not change its behaviour! The strange movement of the "sub-streams" adds a fair bit of utility to the spell, I think, in providing for some tactical use, such as spinning quickly and having them form a temporary fire shield as they "catch up".
As to the fireball, I think that some information on its charge level (such as fireball size, number of sparks being emitted, rings of flame flaring briefly, etc.) would probably help. ;P

SkinkLizzard, the current method of shooting fireballs is annoying. I suggest you rather just use the left button, where holding it in charges it and releasing it shoots the fireball. And if you really want(but I think this is more a novelty than something useful) you can make that pressing the right mouse button cancels the loading process and gives you your mana back.

I could but I felt that all the spells should stay the same,
hence any passive effects(charging, streams, absorption) are activated with the left mouse
while active effects(bolts, blasts, control, overburn) use the right mouse so that you can have both running
at the same time but the passive doesn't require the active to be going.
if it does become to cumbersome I might just allow you to stipulate it in options.
second test should be ready soon, just fixing some stuff and I want to add something other than just kill the swarming chill demons.

I still feel the interface is clumbersome, especially for fireballs, but I don't have any ideas on improving it. :( Maybe someone can suggest a solution. :)
In the meanwhile I'll put my thinking cap on. ;)
