Current volunteer timetable, as lifted from the original thread (http://forums.tidemedia.co.za/oldforums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2896&hilit=rAge) on the old forums:

Friday 28th September:
10:00-13:00
13:00-16:00
16:00-19:00

Saturday 29th September:
09:00-12:00
-Cairnswm
12:00-15:00
-Gazza_N
15:00-19:00
-Cairnswm
-Gazza_N

Sunday 30th September:
10:00-13:00
-Cairnswm
13:00-16:00
-Cairnswm

All volunteers on duty will have exhibitor's badges and/or complimentary tickets. I want at least three people in the stand at all times: At least 1 senior (Me, Nandrew, Fengol, Coolhand or Cairnswm) and 2 others.

Those of you that got shirts last year, please wear them. I don't have that many left to hand out - especially in the smaller sizes. I'll be preparing FAQ answers for you all so that you can easily answer the common things people will ask you in the stand... Be warned that it's a semi-thankless job, hence the shifts - I want people to be able to enjoy the show too. Although I will feed you ;)

Note that the last sessions include help with cleanup. No, you won't be able to run around the show after closing time.

Volunteers that need to pick times:
Fengol
Coolhand (don't worry about friday)
Squid
Azimuth (Still keen?)
SkinkLizzard (Still coming?)

Events timetable coming soon ;)

Put me down for the whole of Friday and Saturday, although I think I might need a lift there and back on Friday.

I'm really excited about this one :P

Sign me up for guard duty! I'll be there, sword in hand, shouting out "THIS IS GAME DEVVVV!"
Ahem. I'll be there on the 29th. :) Can't wait to meet the gang. Will offer help where ever I can.

Coolhand
30-08-2007, 05:45 PM
We'll be there fri/sat/sun, but I'm not sure what our availability is as we may need to be doing stuff on the MINI stand as well as hanging around our corner of Game.Dev...

I'll have to get back to you closer to the time as to my availability :)

Gazza_N
30-08-2007, 06:20 PM
I really can't wait. Not only do we get to meet everyone IRL (then, in my case, run away as they attack unreservedly), but (as lame as it sounds) we get to grow the community. I've already invited a couple of interested parties to the stand to listen to our evil propagan... er... presentations.

Can't wait for that event timetable. Hurry! ;)

I would like to help out but I'm not sure if I will be able to make it as I'm not in jhb, I live in pta so it's quite a bit away. But I'll try my best. Will let you know when I have confirmation.

Azimuth

I'm not sure what days I'll be there, partly as I'm relying on a friend for transport and stuffs. I'll have to get back to you on that.

BattleMoose

I'm not in Game Development but would be willing to help out. Not sure if this is appropriate but I would be willing to give a presentation SupCom and/or strategy guide and/or talk about game balancing pertaining to SupCom.

I have been heavily involved in the private patch balance tests for supcom.

Ok, I have put myself the job of creating a flyer for rAge, pretty much a generic one to be used as advertising for the local scene.

The main thread for these stuff was started on the sagamedev forums, but since this is a collected effort, I'm posting here too just to make sure you guys know about it, and help to make it better.
http://forums.sagamedev.com/topic.aspx?topicid=222

You can download a _very_ preliminary version here:
http://196.4.161.17:8080/rAge3.zip

Included is an Inkscape SVG file and a PDF (for those that just want to check it out)
I'll need some help with content, and presentation. (Yes, that's you cyberninja & nandrew)

The plan is to make a double-sided A5 flyer, I'll then print a few hundred of them and hand it to all the guys doing stands at rAge.

Dislekcia already committed to give me the timetable of the g.d stand, if there is any other stages I'm not aware of please let me know.

Now, not wanting to hijack a sticky thread, and not having rights to create a thread yet (#@*^~!!!) I'd ask that one of you create a thread where we can continue this discussion.

I know the flyer is preliminary, but the Game.Dev link is wrong. It should be http://www.gamedotdev.co.za. ;)

I can help out, from friday 13:00 throughout the rest of the weekend, so you can slot me in to fill odd spots up if need be.

Lift arrangements arent a problem for me as i live down the road from the dome, so im definitely going to be there.

If there are flyers to hand out and enough people to man the stand I can spend my time walking around handing them out.

I hope I am able to help out in some way.

Awesome Edg3, thanks :)

I'll wait a little longer for more volunteers to let me know what times they can handle and then I'll slot you in. No more than 4 sessions over the weekend, promise.

about shirts, i had a cool idea which i put together roughly for a shirt, and i reckon it will look pretty cool if i can get it done, i cant say definitely if its sorted, and this is probably in the wrong thread, but you mentioned shirts from last year. Im sure though that i can organise sponsorship and have new shirts printed. I'll upload the design i thought up so you can at least see what im going on about.

Remember that we have a brand identity for Game.Dev and the stand is going to reflect that. So the shirts need to gel with the posters and fit with the presentations, website, etc. That's why I'm using the shirts left over from last year: I'm already using last year's posters.

We don't really have time now to make a new brand identity in less than a month and the costs of printing everything up again are rather high. If you can find sponsorship for shirts, cool - pass it on to me and I'll make new shirts that fit with the rest of the stand :)

I'll second that...

I see that the rAge website has been updated with a shiny (albeit buggy) flash site. Nice to be able to see the floor layout, though still no event timetable...

Dis, you also mentioned earlier, and I quote:

All volunteers on duty will have exhibitor's badges and/or complimentary tickets.
Whats happening with that and how do we go about retrieving them?

Talk times and topics are being finalised with the various speakers atmo. So the Game.Dev timetable will be final by the end of the week. In the meantime, please pick the slots that you can be on duty at the stand. I'll only get the tags and comps on thursday the 27th, so you're going to have to call me once you're outside the Dome and we'll run them out to you.

Volunteers will most likely get comps.

I wont make rage this year.
Too much bases that needs to get covered regarding SAGD development and some odd business coding that i really must get finished up if we are going to meet our targets before year-end.

I assume that if we rock up on days that we aren't on duty, ready and willing to help nonetheless, that we won't be chased away like lepers? I ask because I might rock up on the Sunday as well, but it's not so definite that I'm able to commit to a shift.

ONE MORE THING! <---Jacky Chan Adventures reference for the day

Are we encouraged to bring along WIP or complete versions of our games to display to our fellow devvers, or should we leave our code at home? I remember seeing people showing off their stuff last year, but just to be sure...

I was going to actually make it, but seeing the amount of work I got now, which increased dramatically, there will just be no way I can make it.
Going to rAge wont pay hosting fees and the likes.

Not all is bad though, I will be making a pretty good announcement in SAGD later today, and it has EVERYTHING to do with game development, but unfortunately EVERYTHING to do what I dont have enough time on my hands to actually be at rAge.

About rAge, next year? Most definitely! :)

Right, I have decided ;)

Saturday 29th September:
09:00-12:00
15:00-19:00 (Might need to finish early but I think that I can enlist the help of the NAG forumites who are congregating for the meet and greet ;) )

Sunday 30th September:
10:00-13:00

I should be lurking the rest of the time ;)

I might also mangle your Game.Dev shirt slightly ('cause mine was too big). And before people say 'WTF, who is Kensei and why is she helping?' Despite my lack of input in this forum and the community as a whole, I am a honoury member of the group :P I have enough crazy and creative ideas, stupid plot lines and a firm grasp of C# (among other languages) to warrant hanging around and pretending I am a guru ;)

Also, I tend to automatically help where I can, might as well make it official.

See you guys there.

Shameless punt:
BTW: Guys, don't forget that we are having a NAG meet and Greet thing at about 5pm on Saturday. They should be coming to the Game.Dev stand as the official meeting point. Good chance to punt more local content to them ;) And it would be nice if you all could join us for dinner

I was going to actually make it, but seeing the amount of work I got now, which increased dramatically, there will just be no way I can make it.
Going to rAge wont pay hosting fees and the likes.

How can you not be sure what he means: You're not going to the biggest gaming and game development event of the year because you have work to do? His point is that if you're serious about game development, you should be at rAge because it'll give you more work, more support and more networking opportunities... It's like a developer not going to E3 even though it's in his back yard.

I mean, it's not like the expo is only on for a few hours... It's three days! You can afford to take 5 or 6 hours and drive through on the weekend. How else are you going to meet active members of your own community, like Craig from Spineforge?

Not all is bad though, I will be making a pretty good announcement in SAGD later today, and it has EVERYTHING to do with game development, but unfortunately EVERYTHING to do what I dont have enough time on my hands to actually be at rAge.

Wait. You're licensing an engine and it's giving you MORE work? Doesn't seem like too good an investment there...

Looking at the latest volunteer timetable, I would be able to fill in the gap on Friday 16:00-18:00 as well as both gaps on Sunday 10:00-13:00 and 13:00-16:00. Please let me know if this is alright and also if I need to pm anyone. I know this is late notice but like I said, I haven't been active. I still have the t-shirt from last year (even though I wasn't actually helping, I asked for one) and will probably spend most of my time at the Game.Dev stand anyway regardless of whether or not I am helping out.
