'ere we go! (http://www.devmag.org.za/)
Ladies and gentlemen, Issue 18!
Not only has this issue striven to address feedback on the magazine, but it's weighing down the scales at ANOTHER 40 pages.
On TOP of that, a quick look at the stats for October revealed quite a surprise: various issues of our magazine have been downloaded more than 7000 times in the past 30 days! Well done to all, this is a FANTASTIC figure!
Without further ado, I present the mag (heck, it's been due for a while). A bit of experimentation went into this issue: I'm quite sure that some things have worked while others haven't, but I'm keen for feedback on these sort of things once the mag has been read. ;)
I'll also be offering commentary on some individual articles, so please acknowledge your peers and examine their work as well.
Enjoy!

Hi all,
A factual inaccuracy has been brought to my attention. Regarding Retrotoast and Cartesian Chaos, I mistakenly gave credit to Mindset for the publishing deal instead of Dominique Louis, who some of you may know from PascalGameDevelopment. This sprung from an assumption and impressions, so I failed to confirm with Cadyn and the crew about who was really doing the deal with them.
My apologies, and I'll be editing the magazine as quickly as possible to fix the mistake.

Why is my name in the layout credit, when you are the one that's doing all the work? You deserve the credit Nandrew, not me. Please change it next time. ;)
I really enjoyed the RetroToast and the Mini#37 article. The Luma guys really rock. Coolhand's series, is win as always and the rAge write-up was really cool. Man, it looked like the Game.Dev stand was really buzzing at rAge this year. :P A very cool 18th issue. Good job everybody.
PS: Lol @ Azzi's pic.
@Untouchable: Smurfs! :P La,la,lala,la,la la la la lala.

Hehe, I think we actually need to fix it next month so that you start doing some layout again, as well. Currently, Chippit and I are sharing the load, and I think with three people all working on it properly, it should go swimmingly. ;)
Also note, all, that a corrected version of the mag has been uploaded. Thanks for your patience if you were waiting on this. ;)

Very Cool :)
So when do we get a tileset of Dev.Bot to use in our games??? (Should I add this as my Sig yet???)

That's a very good question. I think that the readers are definitely familiar with Db by now. So let's bring him out to play. ;) *Cyber goes off in search of his sprite artist....
Edit: Cairnswm, while you are here. I need some help with a rpg game. Let me post in the help thread...

I haven't yet read much of it, but the issue looks very good, at least - well done!
I'm very glad to see the Retrotoast article - such a success deserves it, I would say. ^_^

Hey guys. I have just seen the first batch of db sprites...AND THEY LOOK AWESOME!! ^_^
Afflict (the artist) would like to know if you guys require any specific sprite/action for your games. These are the actions that are currently covered:
Running
Walking
Idle
Shooting
Jumping
Punching
Kicking
If you require anything else. Please let me know, so I can pass the message to him. :-)

For a platform game we would also need climbing.
For a RTS you'd need something like collecting resources. - Maybe we could use a picking up action for this.
How about dying - falling over backwards.
Very cool :)
How about a sneak peak at one (just one) frame?

Cool. Thanks guys. The plan is to have a library of db sprites for game dev'ers, so keep em coming. ;)
I add: Super Sword Slashing and a Shoryuken to the list.

Awesome, I hope to see these soon! I also want to work on making DB more prominent within the mag, so mebbe we can get that brand identity / image stuff going with a combo of all this. ;)
Guys, I'd like to put it here that if ANY of you frequent other sites where the people would be remotely interested in game development, please set aside some time to pimp Dev.Mag 18! We've received some very good feedback for this edition in particular, so it has been suggested that this be "The One" to market the living daylights outta. ;)

"Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability." It's all coming in January. ;)
