So here we are again, earlier than usual, with a biiig issue on our hands. But first, some news:

I'm proud to announce that, last month, the August issue had more downloads in its opening month than any issue in our history, with the single exception of February's Issue 20. Total downloads for all magazines is also up once again, after a bit of a slump in the past two months or so likely caused by all the delays and administrative changes. Our magazines were downloaded a total of 7820 times during the course of the month, bringing us to nearly 100 000 lifetime downloads; more than respectable, I feel. Thanks to everyone for the help, ideas and contributions.

Pretty graphs because the marketing people inside us like them. :P

Right, now for the usual stuff:

Deadline: Sunday 14 September

News

Opinion

I'd actually like to have at least one of these, if only for the sake of completeness this month. If anyone has any relevant blog posts/thoughts/ideas that we might use, that should be more than enough.

Feature

Depending on how things turn out, I think Coolhand's article on GarageGames can fit here better than anywhere else. (Coolhand)
I also think another talk with Introversion is in order, on Multiwinia this time. (Tr00jg?)

Review

I'd still love one on Braid. It's possible that I'll get the game myself, but it would help to know if anyone else is willing and able to do this one. (? / Chippit)
Lost Garden (http://www.lostgarden.com/) - The treasure trove of info here is too much to pass up. If not claimed, I'll do this one too. (? / Chippit)
Local review - I suggest Glyph Hunter (http://www.gamedev.za.net/filecloset/download.php?id=589) this time around. (LionsInnards)

Development

Fair use laws (Nandrew)
Irrlicht? (Fuzzyspoon)
Blender (Chippit)
Smoothing in games? (Coolhand)
Behavioural models or quad trees (Herman)
Post competition run-down - The death competition was especially interesting in that it encouraged entrants to have a look at common game design elements, decide whether or not we need them and how to work without them. Now that everyone's experimented with it, seen everybody else's entries, and learned the results of the comp, I think it's a good time to talk about what y'all have learned. (Gazza?)
Random sound article thing (Nandrew)

Tailpiece

Game.Dev competition run-down (Nandrew & Chippit)

Your tailpiece is lol.

Chippit, put me down for "random sound article thing". I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to write, but I have a few ideas to run with which I'm going to choose from and we've yet to see an audio expert popping out of the woodwork to submit one instead.

Also, Glyph Hunter now on FileCloset

Cool. I'll try to get in touch with Introversion again. I have a week-long holiday next week.

I've been asked by Chippit to write a lil' something about level design/modding, bridging off from my thread on designing a track in TrackMania. Could you let me know of any restrictions (word count etc.) and guidelines I should follow?

:D Where in the UK are the situated so I can stalk them and steal some rare Darwinia merchandise :D

Ok, seriously though, can they explain their game design process? How do they get their wild ideas that are swirling in their head down onto paper and then into a feasible and solid game design?

Right Introversion is happy to do some business. They also want to send Multiwinia review key codes along. I don't precisely what that entails and if you someone have to get Multiwinia somewhere and then enter the key. I'll ask them when I send them the interview.

Anyone keen for the Multiwinia key code? Anyone else want some fun with it?

Thanks for that Kensei! Great question. :)

Roit, time for the customary 'ohshi- my safe-procrastination time is running out' reminder. Two days to deadline. Please get everything in by then.

We can't afford delays this month, since we must be done before rAge; and this means you'll probably see this issue out by the 1st or 2nd of October. I might not publically release it until after rAge, though, but I'll probably throw it out here either way.

And for the love of God, please provide lots and lots and LOTS of (preferably High-res) pictures.

Hopefully, Introversion will get it done soon enough...

Since the launch is happening this week, they are quite busy and said they will only be able to get the interview back by the end of the following week...

They are also sending along 4 keys. :D

Okay, hopefully we can still squeeze it in by then, but it shall be difficult. Thanks.
