Development on the much anticipated Adventure Quest 2: The Return of Lord Deathskull has started again and I hope to keep at it at least until the end of 2007. This is a game I'm very passionate about, a Diablo-style action adventure with, hopefully, good RPG elements to keep players coming back.

Adventure Quest is made of win. ;)

Up front I'd like to say a special thank you to everyone who's helped and movitated me in this game, particularly: Dislekcia, Geometrix and Kensai; and I hope everyone will get involved and let me know what you think of my game.

The latest Adventure Quest 2 [0.4] can be downloaded the Game.Dev FileCloset (http://gamedev.openhazel.co.za/filecloset/download.php?id=170).
See the readme.txt in the package for controls.

That's fantastic, Fengol! I really hope that the final product will be as fun as the Beta/technology demo!

I need your guys help and opinions.

I intend to make this a multiplayer game (1-4 players) but I need to know whether the navigation and combat input should be via the keyboard (Old School) or point-and-click (Diablo Style). The inventory, dialogues and menus will use the mouse as while old school rocks, a mouse is more intuitive for those kinds of things.

Your thoughts...

I personally go for the old school way, and use the keyboard! Ive just never had any fun clicking on things, you can do that on your desktop!

OoOooo!!! "Cyber starts downloading....

Edit: Once again, I say this game has huge commercial potential. :) I dig the improved lighting system.
Again, I say "point and click" - Diablo style. Keep up the good work. ;)

Well it certainly looks good, and the random dungeon in uber-cool. I can't wait for some monsters to kill!

Also I would go for keyboard control. Diablo bores me.

I would say go for a diablo style point and click method, because that would be more widelly accepted as a controller. Myself personnaly also prefer the diablo style controls.

I havent downlloaded it yet, i am on my laptop, but ill give it a go tonight hopefully.

You could support both mouse and keyboard? Obviously if you're going to go for more than two action related buttons on the keyboard, mouse could be an issue. So it depends on what actions you want to allow...

I would go for point and click as it is more user-friendly in my opinion. I also havn't downloaded it yet but look forward to some time soon.

I would do both!

And then let everyone test the different control schemes and see what works the best ;) Yay for many willing testers!

You're a pain, you know that Dislekcia? OK, I'll be implementing collision detection and I'll put a few random goodies in for players to find. I'll also create a code branch and one version will have the keyboard controls, the other mouse. *Welcome major and minor version numbers*

I Agree have both. Let the player decide, what are the obvious advantages vs disadvantages of the two?

Adventure Quest 2 is going to be on hold for September while I work my entry for Comp 16 and help my friend on his.

It's not that there's an advantage or either system, but it changes the game from old-school to main stream and just gives a different feel to the overall game.
