I make no secret of the fact that I'm a Unity fanboy... but this is kind of awesome...

Summary is : The Unity engine will soon be able to build for Wii, Xbox360, Playstation3, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Macintosh and web for both Windows and Macintosh...

Also they are apparently adding the Mirror's Edge Lighting Engine which I can't wait to mess with.

I hope Unity Indie gets handed down some tasty features as well.

I am also starting to feel like a fanboy, pimping it everywhere I go :D
The platform list is looking great. Maybe after this release they can make a plan for Linux.

iPad support is just iPhone rebuilt with new libs and higher screen resolution support ;)

You guys must drop me a message if you need anything Unity-wise, like if there is a beta that you want to sign up for or whatever. I have good contacts with one of the main guys there and he is super helpful when it comes to community stuff.

Oooh... if they're finally doing Linux that means they will probably make a Webplayer for Chrome OS (which, as a Unity fanboy, the lack thereof has been something of a concern)...

Luke, that's really cool... I may take you up on that offer once I've dug myself out from under my mountain of contractual programming.

It is sweet that Unity does all these platforms... though for an indie it still means buying a bucket load of licenses if you want to hit several these platforms seriously. I wonder if Unity will consider selling them in bundles... eg. a Latest Generation Console package that comes with Wi, Xbox and Playstation as well as Web and Desktop builds.... or a Mobile Package with iPhone, iPad and Android (and Web and Desktop)... unless their plan is to make more money though selling multiple licenses to each client.

Don't forget, Unity for any console is useless unless you already are a licensed developer for said console :)

Ugh... true... Don't both Wii and Playstation3 cost something like R100000 to get a license for? That seems bizarre, I hope I'm mistaken.

Xbox at least has a community thing, but there aren't a lot of sales going on there.

A bundle for iPhone and Android makes more sense as the licensing is negligible.

.

I haven't been privy to that info lately, but last time I saw it was between 5k and 10k Euros. WiiWare and PSN licenses are quite a bit cheaper though.

The Xbox Unity relavance to most people depends on if it is built around XNA so that it can be compatible for the Community games, or if it is built around the XDK, which means that you'd need to be a licensed developer in order to make use of it. I haven't checked into what type of 360 support Unity does myself.
