Hey y'all. I've started working on a rail gun shooter in GM. I'll be using pre-rendered animation (instead of using Game Makers 3D function). Which is better suited for what I have planned. I'll keep everybody posted as the game progresses. :P

Version 1: Basic mouse shooting (fixed)

Version 2:

Keys:

Left mouse button: Fire
Right mouse button: Reload

*Only single player is available for now.

I downloaded it and check it out; there seems to be an intermittent problem firing while moving the mouse. If I keep it still and click I can rapidly fire but when I try to shoot the ghosts sometimes nothing will happen.

Hmm..I'll check that out. Thanks Fengol. =]

Edit: Fixed. ;)

Looks good so far, Cyberninja!
I like that shotgun sound... reminds me of Doom <3

That's cool, Cyberninja. ^_^

The only problem that I see is that the gun doesn't move to follow the mouse pointer. However, I'd guess that this is simply a result of this being an early prototype.

I look forward to the next prototype. ^_^

Sounds cool, btw what happened to the fighting game you made?(Not the NAG one)

Oh. I've still got it, along with my other prototypes. I'm making it my mission to complete all of them by the year's end.

As for this game. I've run into a problem in terms of the file size. The pre-rendered backgrounds (animations) are causing the game file size to shoot up drastically. I'm working on ways to compress them right now. I may have to go the episodic route. Will keep everyone posted.

Hmm... What file format are you using, and what, if any, compression software are you using? I've found 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to be better than zip, at least, although there may well be better yet. I don't know how many zip programs will open 7zip files, so I don't know how many people will have the software to open a normal 7zip archive, but I seem to recall that even a 7zip self-extractor gives decent compression.

It has more to do with compressing the actual animation frames Thaum. Progress is being made though. ;) I managed to reduce the original file size by half, but more compression is still needed. A slow process, but I'm getting there though.

Fair enough - I'm glad to hear that you're making progress. ^_^

If I may ask, what are you doing to compress the frames?

This reminds me of when I was going through the MathsterMind art and shaving off hundreds of bytes at a time. Eventually the game fit into 97K :)

I tweaked the output settings in Lightwave, then manually compressed the frames again in Photoshop.

Yep. I'm dealing with the same problem here. :) The file size is coming down slowly though. ^_^

That being said, Version 2 is up. Check first post. :P
