That's... actually kinda tempting.
I'm not sure that it would be a good idea for me, but it may also be worth thinking about...
One way or the other, thank you for bringing this to our attention, cairnswm. ^_^
[edit] Oh, if I may ask, did your contact say what experience would be called for in the programmer positions, by any chance?

This the most evil thing that people do when looking for game designers :(
Its almost impossible to get a job as a game designer from an entry level perspective...
To get a job as one, you need one major title under your belt, but you can't get that one major title because no one will hire a complete newbie.
Oo plug away at your own designs and hopefully build a good enough portfolio to show them when the opportunity arises :D

My impression is that the normal way (in America and the UK at least, I think) is to start off in a lower-level job (such as a general, low-level programming job, or an artistic position, etc.), and be promoted up towards designer from within.

This could also work, I hope! ^_^

I was reading on Gamasutra that EA (or one of the other big publishers) has recently spent a wad of cash starting up a myriad of little teams with tonnes of designers and said "make something, present it and the best ones get further financing". The publishers are starting to realize that need to take risks if they want the "next big thing" and are starting to support new designers.
At this point you just need to keep your head to the ground and be ready to take risks, like this Aus gig.
I'll try and find the article and post it.

That sounds pretty positive, Fengol. I hope that you do find the article in question - I'd like to read it, I think. ^_^
