LOL sounds awesome ,
Im almost certain you can read in the ascii exports of the full songs to implement that into game play?
It shud be a cool game to play if its like dance dance revolution but numpad style and a letter for each note haha,
I havent played guitar hereo and being a musician myself , im gonna dl it :)

I made my own version of Frets on Fire once. Just be warned, GM doesn't like too many F keys being pressed at once.

I'm very keen for this idea if it can be pulled off successfully.
Of course, this is just another fan of that game talking. ^^
I never played guitar hero, because I have my own guitar, and it seemed too much effort ;) but this is pretty cool! Although, when you've added songs there is no way I'll get guitar hero anyway! (being able to play on my pc of course!)

Very cool man. If the end result is anything like Guitar Hero, then this could prove to be quite addictive. Good luck. :)

This is cool. ^_^
If I may make a request, could you please support the use of the number keys one through five as well as the function keys - my function keys have a space every three keys, making it a little easier for me to use the number keys, I suspect.
By the way, what does strumming do? I didn't hear any effect, I don't think...

I havent made it play a different sound yet when you miss a note! The strumming just destroys the button and adds to the score! Ill add the different sound soon!!!
---EDIT---
Just made the other instruments a backing track, now when you miss a strum or strum out of time your guitar stops playing! I will try have a full song up by tomorrow night for you guys to try out!!! :D

Hey guys, just an update! A friend of mine, NytHawk, is going to be joining me! The engine is basically done, so we both going to be working on the content for the game!!! He's a noob to game development, but he's learning quickly, so he says he's gonna be making his own entry for comp 17!!!

are you supposed to push F1 then enter, F2 enter, F1 enter etc. or do you just push F1 F2 F1? just checking cause i have never played frets on fire or guitar hero or anything like that.
---Edit----
never mind figured it out. AWESOME! tons of fun, too scared to use my mouse, afraid i might get a bit too caught up and crush it :P Wireless keyboards in this are awesome :)

Okay, I think that I'm doing something wrong... ^^;
Having started a song, the first "fret" (am I using that correctly) seems to play just as it passes the block to which it corresponds (in this case F2), but after that I seem to hear only what sounds like the background track.
It could be that I'm just hitting the F-keys at the wrong time - I'm trying to release them as the falling block passes its corresponding "player block" at the bottom...
Could you please describe how one is supposed to play? ^^;;
I really like the character shown at the main menu, by the way - very cool! ^_^

Are you pressure enter while holding down the correct key at the right time!!! You can hold down the F keys even when you not playing!!!! You only 'play' the note when you push enter to strum!!! Ill try put a tutorial into the game soon!!!

Hey guys, I had a new idea today!!! Im going to put in a free play mode!!! Only once Ive put in atleast 5 songs though!!! In this free play mode, you will choose a key! For example, say you choose E, it will tell you that F1 = C#m ; F2 = B ; F3 = E ; F4 = A ; F5 = F#m. The cool thing about knowing what note goes in what key is that it will be quick for you to get the hang of it!!! This is only just a fun little idea, just to make my game a little more competitive, but not a definite! If I feel that it takes away from the game, or is just really rubbish, I won't add it!!!

Aaah, thank you - I think that I see now - cool! ^_^
I really like the idea of a free play mode - it sounds to me like a fun, simple way of playing around with music for those of us who are not terribly practiced at it. ^_^

Hey guys, sorry, I have had no progress on this game! Partly because of finals coming up, and also I just haven't been that inspired to work on it! However, I am back, and I promise to have atleat 5 songs and a free play mode for the final release of the game!!!

It isn't working for me :(
When I run it I don't get any errors, and when I open up my task manager I can see the process running, but it never seems to actually load.
I am running Vista 32-bit if that helps.

Ja, Im using GM 6.1 so Vista wont run it! What Ill do is compile it on my friends PC in GM7! Ill have it up soon! Promise!!!

I like the game. My only suggestion is that you implement a bit more tolerance on the timing. Say if you hit the enter key slightly too early or late (emphasis on slightly), then it still keeps the music playing but gives less score than would be awarded if you hit the enter key at exactly the right time.
