Right, y'all already know how it works. So here we go:

The deadline for this month is 20 July.

News:

Wherever I can get it.

Opinion:

Still open, as always, for anyone with something to say.

Feature:

Digipen - Coolhand, if possible? Otherwise, a GarageGames interview from Fuzzyspoon should suffice.

Reviews:

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness - Gazza_N

LostGarden - This website is a trove of design knowledge. I think it deserves a review, particularly since we've referred to it a few times here on Game.Dev already.

InstantAction - Choose a game, play online, in your browser, with your friends, instantly. Cool? Definitely. Requires review - Tr00jg

Design:

Custom Sound Effects - Nandrew

Game Design vs Game Programming - Nandrew (Or opinion, depending on how it works out)

School Days - I mentioned this last month and a discussion with Nandrew brought it up again. I still think a quick look into the courses, subjects, etc. that will be useful for game development would make a great article. Which things are important and why. - Fuzzyspoon

Lighting - Fuzzyspoon

Tutorial:

Blender models to XNA - Pretty please, Fengol? ;)

Irrlicht - Fuzzyspoon

Photoshop - UntouchableOne

Blender - Chippit

Tailpiece:

Those mini-reviews on indie Torque games will still be welcome, if you can dig up a few more, Tr00jg. If that's a problem, I'll put something else up here instead.

Commentary, suggestions, ideas, article staking deploy. I'll keep this post up to date with changes. Check back every now and again.

How about I do write-up of torgue (has it been done in blue pill? cant remember) and then those 2 reviews (perhaps 1 more?)

EDIT:

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is a Torgue game after all...

From next issue (25) I'll do a little something on the more abstract concepts of game.dev, gotta get into varsity mode again first etc. But content for this issue looks good so far.

What about reviews and or a piece on Instant Action, Garagegames' new thing?

The mini-reivews are too short to use on their own. I need to put them together with others like them to use, and 2 isn't really enough to make a tailpiece out of. Unless you lengthen them both and they can be used as full reviews. Penny Arcade Adventures is a special case because, well, it's Penny Arcade Adventures, and it warrants a full review.

You're welcome to do a Torque blue pill in addition, however I would prefer you focus on the mini-reviews if at all possible. You're welcome to find demos and write on them as well if it helps. The mini-reviews usually just turn out to be little more than summaries of the games anyway. A demo is usually far more than enough to get that amount of information.

Ooh, and something on InstantAction is a great idea. I can't believe I've forgotten about it. I've added that to the first post, if someone cares to pick it up. Otherwise I'll do that one meself.

Can I go for that Chippit?

EDIT:

Or rather not. Playing games on Instant Action will eat too much cap. I write about it and then the 2 reviews of general torgue games?

Go ahead.

can i grab the school days one? i had a copule of the l;ocal guys with me on this i wanted to get a collaborative answer, and do a full write up of the studying etc :)

a GarageGames interview from Fuzzyspoon
Interview Jeff? or who? Thats cool,

else ill gather news and send it, and ill make the irrlicht continue. i was thinking about doing a writeup on lighting in games, 2d and 3d games. Its a lot of weight on a games mood and the type of game and i think its quite a cool thing to focus on. I can also try get some "pro tips" about lighting in 3d from our friend eric gooch?

Either way :) this looks win so far too

School days is yours. You did mention an interest in it last month and I was hoping you'd pick it up now.

An interview with anyone would be great. You may want to wait for word from Coolhand, but either way this will be a feature eventually. If not this month, it'll go in next. I'd rather not have more than one feature a month just yet.

If you want to examine exactly -how-, and if you can handle this on top of the above, go ahead.

I'd be interested in helping out with the school days article if you'd like FuzzYspo0N, I'm in third year Computer Science and so have experience with subject choices etc.

Also if more mini reviews are needed I'd be happy to contribute to that, just point me to any games you'd like me to review :)

Unfortunately I've got a bit of a surprise deadline for the 20th, so I'm out of contention for this month. But I'm on holiday after that so I'll have some time to throw together some stuff for the next issue.

Sorry :(

No worries. This is why I've kept a feature article in reserve. ;)

Anyway, I think Fuzzyspoon can handle the alternative. Amirite, Fuzzyspoon?

Woot. I got good news! Received the multiwinia package! Its incredibly good timing, since I have a LAN today! Wootsticks. :)

But I guess we can keep Multiwinia for the next issue right?

So, I still have to do a piece on InstantAction (and one more Torgue game?). Right Chippit?

Chippit
15-07-2008, 12:48 PM
Yeah, we're good for this issue, so the reviews for now.

Multiwinia will be excellent for 25. What's included in the package?

I sent it to my dad's office, so I don't know yet. Have to go fetch it later. It has a toy in it apparently. I am hoping for a darwinian. :D

I am now an owner of a neat small blue darwinian. :)

The preview code was just single player. So I could only play skirmish. But its awesome. It should be one hectic game with loads of people.

Excellent. I'll expect a review on my metaphorical desk soon, then. ;)

With LOTS of screenshots to make Q happy. For the Torque games too, please. I notice you didn't send any last month.

Actually, anywhere picture are applicable, LOTS AND LOTS OF THEM, in as HIGH A RESOLUTION AS POSSIBLE, would make my life exceedingly easier.

Chippit

Right, so it's that time of the month. The time to make the customary 'thank you for your submissions/you're late send stuff noaw' post which also serves as a reminder that we're still here. For those late submissions, I'm going to stretch the deadline to Wednesday, both for tardiness on my part and on request.

Otherwise, the content looks fairly complete this month, so you can hopefully expect Issue 24 by 8 August, the second friday of next month.

Hi. I am really sorry to say that I have not completed the Photoshop tutorial for this issue due to a workload that really was unmanageable. I honestly didn't have any time to even brain storm ideas. I would appreciate it if one of the other members could whip up something. It would also be great if someone knowledged it Photoshop with more time available would like to take this over permanently. I welcome anyone who could do a piece for this issue. I apologise again.

Regards
