LOL

Sounds rad in fact, like to hear more of how the gameplay works or how it fits?

A+ and 1000 points for backstory. :D

I agree that some gameplay specifics would be nice. Purty pweeze?

Oooh... I love the backstory - if handled well this could be a fascinating game, I think!

I do hope that I am taking correctly from the title that there will be a heavy philosophical slant in this game...?

[edit] I second (er... "third" :P) the request for gameplay specifics! ^_^

I agree. The premise lends itself very well to some more philosophical leanings. Please, Cyber, give us a decent sci-fi game storyline? I haven't seen a good one since Deus Ex and Anachronox.

That's if you want to. ;)

The game is a hybrid shooter with elements of both strategy and role-playing. The story is the key that ties everything together, so I really can't say anymore. ;) Otherwise it will ruin the plot. I will say that you both are right, in thinking that it leans more towards the philosophical part. And that's all I'll say. ;)

Everything (cutscenes included) will be created using alphabets, numbers and punctuation marks. I'll be using different fonts to give the environment/s more character.

Aaah, excellent! I am now very much looking forward to seeing the final result! ^___^

(funnily enough, I recently re-played Deus Ex, having bought it for R99 (I think that it was) at the Look and Listen (I think that it was) in Canal Walk... Definitely a very good game. ^_^)

That's if you want to.

"If he wants to"? No! He will make it as I have said! *places a geas to this effect on Cyberninja* >:P

Win, win, WIN!!! (As story-driven games with great gameplay always are ;) ) I'm very keen to see this game finished.

And I'm very keen on finishing the game. ;) I'm still working on the story. I'll start on the engine next week. Most of the object sprites are already sorted out, just need to create the baddies, platforms, cutscenes..etc. I'll post the names of the fonts I used also, once version 1 is released. I'm really glad you guys like the idea of a oriental theme. I hope I can deliver. So until the 15th, sayonara. ;) *Cyber, disappears into the shadows...

Heya guys. Just a quick update. The final game will be released on Thursday. I've decided to split the game into volumes (think Kill Bill ). The first volume is being released for comp 16. This is mostly due to the story, which I really wanted to keep, instead of turning the game into a mindless shooter* I've used alot of sound files in the game to build the mood I was aiming for, so (even split) the game is rather large. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to rAge this year. So I'll release a "lite" version of the game for dial-up users, early next year.

*Nothing wrong with mindless shooters, it's just not what I was aiming for. :-)

So long. It's been a blast. ;)

Yeah! Don't you dare intrude on Retro Tank's turf. I've endeavored to put as much mindless shooting as possible into that game. ;)

I'm looking forward to checking your game out after the comp.

Quality > *, Cyber. Don't try to rush it, especially if rushing it involves sacrificing story.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I hear you Gazza. Hence my decision to split the game. :) Just bear in mind everyone, that the entire game is text based. So all the graphics (cutscenes included) are more or less stick figures. *So pretty it is not. ;) <Yoda voice>

On another note, do any of your'll speak chinese/japanese? I would like to add some vocals for certain aspects in the game. Nothing major, just specific words or phrases that are found throughout the game. Let me know. :)

I'm glad to hear that you're splitting the game in order to keep up the quality of the game. This sounds as though it could be something really good, and it would be a pity to lose it to time constraints. ^_^

As to Chinese and Japanese, I don't, beyond a few words that I've picked up from friends or other sources.

Although I'd be keen to help with voice acting, my Japanese is only very basic, and consists mainly of stuff that I've picked up from anime along with stuff from a "teach yourself Japanese" book. However, surely you can get basic challenges and insults from, say, an episode of Bleach? ;)

I reeeeeeeally want to see this game in action. How many more sleeps till it's done?

Actually that will do nicely Gazza. Expect a pm shortly. ;)

When will it be done? I'm gonna take the safe route and say: When it's ready. ;)

I've been in contact with the guys at www.freemusicplay.com (we been in negotiations for the last couple of days) and we've settled on a custom licensing plan as far as music goes. Which is really awesome! The only problem is that the plan imposes some restrictions as far as distribution methods are concerned. I'm trying to sort something out there. Will keep you guys updated on how it turns out.

I'm really looking forward to finding out how this turns out - and, of course, to playing the final product!

How many episodes do you plan on producing, if I might ask?

I'm particularly interested in this project! ^_^

It's gonna be a trilogy. Maybe more, haven't really explored GM, so I'm not sure how much it can handle. I'll be using proper sprites in the final product, so that's sure to increase file sizes. I'll experiment and see which works out best. :)
