How's going to be entering this competition? I must admit I have a little idea for a 2D Black & White type game where you can guide your people into building great monuments.

Interesting ideas come to mind, bu I dont think I'll enter as I have various other games to finish off at the moment.

great monuments.
Pyramids, great wall of china, etc?
When I read your idea I had a thought about guiding your people, and it made me think of lemmings (I think its called), but with a difference.
your men get a start point and move from one side of the screen to the other, and when they hit an obstacle they will deploy like this:

You could easily adapt the walk from left to right, build from right to left style game play.

Fengol: what exactly will you be doing? Im interested in this type of game play ;)

Actually, that was pretty much it! (Great minds think alike) but my "lemmings" would move towards the mouse cursor.

I was thinking that you'd have to guide them to the various materials (stone, water marble) [any who's played Caesar will know how to build temples] but I also like your lemmings idea of clicking on the worker to change their job. *steals*

Im not using that idea or entering :P feel free to have fun. Just one thing about going to the cursor, you might want to then also group your units (eg. max of 5) and then using the number buttons you can control each group, limiting the number of different tasks you can do making it a little bit strategic :)

Thast looks like something ill get involved in. I was curious though, do i need a legal copy of game maker? (obv) but i mean, can i use the trial version (its limited though)

The game you create must comply with the following rules:

The game must be created with Game Maker, version 6 or later (Pro or Lite).

nvm :)

I'd totally play that monument building idea if it were nice and simple and exceedingly slick. Sounds really clever :)

I had dreams last night of blue dressed, green haired Egyptians building pyramids. I *HAVE* to build this game.

Have an idea of my own aswell... guys please remember they said that they want games that are fun. Not monumentally great, excuse the pun.

Fengol, I reckon go for it either way, idea sounds great don't lose the fun factor!

Anyway David and I are planning to enter, I reckon the more man power since our time is limited the better a game we can make. We should really assemble a nice little game building team and start crunching some games out just for fun. Who knows where it could lead to.

I also will be planning a unique civilisation, not the generic bunch that are being rounded

I was following discussions on the yoyogames site and there is no word if they are going to allow made up civilisations. It also seems like there isnt any information regarding civilisations like atlantis that people always debate about the existance of.

Personally, I don't really see much difference between a made-up civ and a real one. As long as it feels ancient, it should work just fine.
