Name: Digimon : Digimon Frontiers
Start Date: 17 October (After my last exam)
Game Play: RPG top-down game

Introduction:
Im going to be finishing exams on the 17 of October, and will only be starting Uni in February. As a project to keep me busy, Im going to make a game on my favorite cartoon show ever! I have recently just got every episode and it has inspired me to do this, as there are no good Digimon games out there!! You will be able to select one of the four characters, and then once finishing the game, you will unlock being able to play with Koji! I will also add in some of the video clips from the series, so expect the downloads to be big! Also, I will add the video clips for all of the spirit evolutions!!! I will be releasing this game in its episodes, making a release quicker, and also download size to be smaller!

Progress: Still in design phase

Current Download: None

I don't want to **** on your parade, but there are copyright and trademark issues to be considered here.

True, but so should all the countless fan-games right? Would it really hurt to make a fan-game?

I know it is wrong in "principle"...

If anything, wouldn't it boost the series' popularity?!?

Azimuth has a point. While there have been fan games that managed to escape being sued into the ground (like Halo Zero), there are a lot of possible legal repercussions here. Go ahead with it, but don't be surprised if you get a lawyer's letter in the mail.

I would suggest clearly stating that it is a fan game made by fans for fans and has no affiliation with digimon or its respective license holders all trademarks and copywrited intellectual property are property of their respective companies... and such, a nice big massive disclaimer should help ... a little anyway

If you're making a fan-made game, you can forget about selling it. As long as you state at the very beginning of the game, that it is just a fan-made game and that no profit is being made on your part, then you should be fine. You also need to state that all images, sounds,..etc belong to their respective owners. If you don't state that, you will be sued for copyright infringement. Just don't over do it with the resources.

Not if they're inclined to sue, I'm afraid, at least from what I gather. As I understand it, any such use of someone else's IP without their consent is illegal. (Although I of course add that I am by no means a lawyer, and that my information is second-hand, having come from other sources.)

They may well, of course, not notice the game, or, quite possibly, decide to turn a blind eye. However, they may also decide to send a cease and desist order.

I would like to make the suggestion that I've seen given on GameDev.net on some occasions on which such potential IP problems have been pointed out: instead of make a "Digimon" game, why not make a game that is similar to Digimon in style and setting, but not in actual characters?

Create your own characters, places and monsters, and you should be fine. They may own the IP for Digimon, but I sincerely doubt that they own the rights to digital worlds, digital entities, or characters entering such virtual worlds... ;)

This (http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html) might be worth a look.

Again, I note that I am not a lawyer, and stand to be corrected (or have the contents of that link repudiated). ^_^

I agree. Ultimately it depends on the owners of the copyright material. Some can be very "nasty" while others are not, and they might just let it slide. There wouldn't be any fan-made games at all, if this were not true. So it really depends. I would say, go with Thaumaturge's suggestion. It would benefit you in the long run. :-)

Ja, well! The game is pretty much for myself and friends, but there is a fan section for people to upload their own stuff on the site? No one has done a game, but if Im not selling it, Im sure they wont have a problem!

Well, if they invite fan-fiction by offering place for it on their website, and they place no restrictions on the form of the fiction, then that seems to me to be a different story! ^_^

ok so whats the point in making the game if you cant make some moola off it. Why not add to the original concept a little, you know, new creatures with new cast and refrain from calling it or referring to digimon. Would that work? Just asking. Cos i think the game can really be fun!
