Now that comp 19 is out of the way, some of you may be looking for something to do. over at lost garden, there is a new game protoyping challenge.
Here's the link: http://lostgarden.com/2008/06/shade-game-design-challenge.html
I think that this could be a great oppurtunity for some novice to try something interesting and experts to flex their powers. Take it, leave it, doesn't bother me. Enjoy.

After actually reading through the design, I'm quite interested. Don't think it'll be a good idea for beginners to attempt cause you need to use either 3D or some rather interesting maths.
I plan on looking at the maths. If it's not too difficult, i'll might try to scratch something up. I'll keep you guys posted about my progress with the maths involved.

Provided you stick to primitives, you should be able to pull this off in 2D GM using the polygon functions and offscreen surfaces to draw shadows and their collision masks (one and the same thing, actually). If I get a chance I'd like to try this out.

I'm a little hacked that he isn't providing us with any art assets; I've been playing with Blender over the last 2 weeks (OMG, what an awesome tool) and it's so easy to create something exciting. The least he could have done was some primatives with cool materials and textures. Even just some textures would be cool.
*goes to grumble in the corner*
P.S. Loading my Blender in creations into XNA is eezy-peezy and I'll do a little write up this weekend for Dev.Mag if anyone wants.

Yes do want!
I'm interested in how you did it. When I tried using the .fbx exporter in an older version of Blender I couldn't get the textures and UV co-ordinates to work correctly.

That's a kinda-neat idea, I think. ^_^
I particularly like the suggestion on the Lost Garden page that the system be capable of producing a stable ecosystem of sorts.
