W - move forward
S - move backwards
A - strafe left
D - strafe right

R - reload
Left Click - shoot
Right Click - Lob grenade

This is a testing version:
What you get:
Ice Zombies to shoot at
A fire pistol
Cheap blood effects
Crappy look

What you can look forward to:
A pretty HUD
More weapons and more zombies
Cooler blood effects
explosions
a whole city you can defend


About the game:
The year is 2010, and after the soccer world cup the world went for a ball of chalk, and your typical zombie holocaust began. Naturally being in South Africa you knew about evolution (cradle of humankind) and understand what the zombies have become:
fire - killed by ice
ice - killed by fire
The world was overrun by these irritating fire and ice zombies, but hey, whos complaining? You get all you would need, a large amount of bullets, a large amount of zombies for you to kill, and you get to find cool weapons along the way!

During your attemps at killing the Ice zombies you find out about the awesome power of napalm grenades! When using them you noticed though that the snow put out the napalm. Luckily it turns out being usefull! The chemical composition of the zmobies seems to make the napalm more intense!

I was mostly just doing this to get the feel of making a top down shooter, but it is done to the specifications of the GM Race. I doubt its good enough to be entered, and I probably wont have it finished properly in 3 days, so its more a look into TDS. :)

No HUD yet, and you cant see how many grenades you have, sorry, slipped my mind.

sounds humorous which I feel is different to the usual zombie shooter

The actual in game humour hasnt actually been added yet :P Im working on better tilesets. because What I have now is shocking, horrendous and ugly.

I was thinking you are a soccer player in a stadium at the start. :P

EDIT:
I forgot to mention, Im trying a different way of making things so that I dont have to make a maze out of hundreds of different objects, I'm going to have one wall object, and it will adjust itself depending on the walls around it. This is going to be so that there can be walls you can destroy, and will ake object handling less messy.

lol ok yea I'll have to agree on the shocking horrendous :)
but I can imagine it looking much cooler, could I ask though why you decided on the control scheme where
your character follows the mouse when you press forward ? it makes manoeuvring incredibly difficult sometimes. also do the zombies have a sight range because I can get them without them ever realising I exist :)

I was experimenting :P the next release will have better graphics, and you will turn and move using the arrow keys, with a pointer arrow showing your direction of walking.

Yes, of about 128 pixels actually :D Im not sure what a fair amount for this would be to be honest.

In terms of blood effects I have a top down shooter tut I made a while back that has some
simple blood splash effects if you'd like to look at it, think I have it in both gm6 and 7 but both registered.

lol ok so it seems it was specifically made for unregistered and mostly all with
drag and drop :)
the actual blood isnt all that good but if you replaced the blood sprites with
better drawn splashes it should be ok, at the moment its programer art.
a,w,s,d - movement
left mouse - shoot
right mouse - reload
middle mouse - draw blood

Does anybody know where I can get good free sounds of the following:
- Gun firing
- Clip going out
- Putting a clip in
- Bullet hitting a wall
- misc zombie noises
(getting hit by bullets, dying, you know. :P)
- Lightning sound effect

Second Release, havent changed the controls yet, but it looks better, feels better, and you get a napalm grenade! :)

It looks as though it could be a fun game, edg3. ^_^

I would recommend brighter colours for the fire effects (albeit with dark edging, for visibility against white) - the red seems a little too dark in the version that I played.

I rather like the napalm grenade effect, although it seems to behave a little oddly at times, occasionally only spreading in some directions, as if the others had been blocked (but does not seem to do this if I, for example, fire a grenade directly into a wall).

I also like the footprint effect - I would just suggest adding a few more levels of fade, as they seem to me to change transparency a little sharply.

I think its most probably unclear, and I'll write a better tutorial after finishing WoZ, Im nearing complete, its a bit linear at the moment, but the story line is coming together.
