I love my DS and I'm itching to make a game to rival Dislekcia's DS demo game made in Game Maker. 7 Wonders is a puzzle game where the player must build the 7 Wonders of the World. This requires moving blocks, rotating gears, chipping at stone, etc with the stylus(mouse).

Throughout the game the player is edged on and educated by little people to roam the play area trying to perform the action that is required by the player. For example a little man might try to lean up against and push the big stone the player is supposed to drag along with their stylus or yank on a rope connected to winch the player must rotate. The people cheer as you perform these actions for them and I'd like to endear the player to them so that the player feels compelled to help them out as the puzzles get harder and less clues are given.

Ideally everything in the world is interactive and the player can pick up and move the people around, shake scaffolding and touch the environment giving the player a sense of being part of the world and edge to interact with everything so I don't need to tell them where to touch.

This game being meant for a Nintendo platform, I'd like to take the art in a Super Mario World direction. Warm, pastel colours, matte textures and thick borders.

Nice concept. May I recommend doing your little people as amorphous blobs? That way they'll be much easier to animate and you can get the same range of emotion out of them :)

That sounds pretty cool, Fengol, and I rather like your approach to indicating the gameplay to the player. ^_^

Will you be releasing Windows versions? I'm guessing that it'll at least be released in Windows-compatible form along the way, but I want to check... *looks hopeful* ^^;

Unless I'm much mistaken, I think Fengol is going to be doing a "mockup" DS game using GM. Unless he's got his sneaky hands on a DS dev kit... ;)

Coolness of concept = high. It sounds like it could be a fun little puzzle game, and the tactile interaction from the stylus would be mucho cool.

You, er, won't be able to crush the little guys/blobs under rocks, will you? :P

I think if I had a Dev Kit, Dislekcia would have ninja'd it away from me already :P

Gazza_N is correct, I have making a Windows game in GM as a mock-up of the DS. i.e. You'll have 2 screens displaying information and you can only interact with the bottom one and the main focus will be on using the mouse (on the DS a stylus) to interact with things on the screen (I have a Wacom tablet which will allow me to test all my stuff and demo it properly).

Nope, the idea is to love the little critters (thanks D for the suggestion) but that isn't to say accidents (and therefore animations) can't happen. I really want to have a high amount of interactivity since I can't see my puzzles being really replayable.

Aah, yes, that makes sense - thank you. ^_^

Heh, using the tablet sounds like a good idea - I should remember that myself when you start producing releases.
