My games name is De Kulling(The Culling).
It is currently in the concept stage, so nothing is really for sure at the moment.

Inspiration:
I go to school at Brackenfell High, where we call ourselves "brakkies"(dogs). Our rival school is called De Kuilen, we call them chicks("kuikens"), I don't know if the call themselves that but it doesn't matter.

Every year we hold an interschools and our school wins almost every year(primarily because were a bigger school, which is also irrelevant for the game). Currently we have won I think like seven years in a row.

Here's the story:
The De Kuilen chicks, being envious at us for winning the interschools 7 years in a row(I still need to check this), are invading our school in an attempt to steal the cup. It is up to Spot to stop them.

As you can see it has to be extended a bit.

How did I get to the name:
It mostly just came to me, but I did decide to change the "The" to "De" and "Culling" to "Kulling". I did this to make it look more like De Kuilen, nothing more nothing less.

Game type:
Platformer- like Jazz Jack Rabbit, but with the aiming system of Halo Zero(just not as granular)

Concept art:
Here are a few pictures I drew that represents some of the characters.
They are drawn on line paper, I didn't have normal white paper when I drew them. So don't bug me about that.
They won't be coloured either so don't bug me about that either.
The rest of the concept art is in the applicable section.

Spot, the protagonist:

Weapons:
Any ideas would be appreciated

YPG Launcher(Yolk Propelled Grenade): Basicly just a rocket launcher.

Egg Launcher: Shoots eggs that are effected by gravity(ie the eggs arc). This will be redrawn as I don't like the way it looks.

Sniper Rifle: Nuff said. Its scope lets you look further in the direction your more is pointing.

BBQ Gun: Just a basic flame thrower.(Cooks enemies, making them look like roated chickens)

Microwave Gun: Shoots lasers or waves or something.(Also cooks chickens)

Uzi and Double Uzis: Just an uzi that rains chick death.
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z250/ShadowMaster_2007/Uzi.png
Electric Carver: Like an chainsaw, but looks like an electric carver.
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z250/ShadowMaster_2007/ElectricCarver.png
Basting Gun: Shoots BBQ sauce that stuns chicks and makes cooking weapons more effective.

Enemy Ideas:
More to come and any ideas would be appreciated
I don't have pictures yet because I am struggling to draw a chick that looks like a chick and not just like an arbritary bird.

Basic Chick: Just runs at you and attacks you with its beak.
YPG Chick: Shoots rockets at you.
Flying Chick: Flies in a small plane and drops eggs on you.

Boss Ideas:
More to come and any ideas would be appreciated

Eggonator: Shoots you with eggs and rolls on tracks.

I haven't started writing the game yet, because at the moment I have a lot of tasks(speaking of which I have to start working on them;)) but as soon as I have time I will start work on the map editor. So that I can test the map engine.

There after I will work on the sprite system(don't you love Object Orientation?)

I strongly suggest downloading and playing Abuse (http://www.abandonia.com/games/97/download/Abuse.htm) for ideas and style tips. It's abandonware by now, great game.

I like that your inspiration is a school thing, that's neat. Makes this a game with a purpose, even if it's a very small bunch of people that are going to get the core joke, it's still cool :)

If you stick with that visual style the game could look very cool, you just need to get the graphics to work together correctly. If you've drawn those on standard lined paper, you should be able to "remove" the lines by only using the blue channel of the scanned image. I used to do that a lot with my own scanned stuff...

Thanks dis. I will start working on it in next week. When the bunch(3 outstanding) of tasks stop.

I will try to change the story to make it more universal, like the chicks stole the bone of wisdom. Damn, I like it when ideas come to you when your in a rush.

I like your premise and setting, and I agree that if you keep the pencil-drawing art styling it'll be as fun to watch as it is to play! Good luck!

@Gazza_N: The only problem now is that I don't really have an idea how to render the sprites as to minimize the art work. The best idea I have so far is to split the sprite into two parts. A lower body for the walking and an upper body to do the aiming and shooting.

However the truly best idea is to have limbs(eg an arm, head, leg so on) and move them seperately, but this would require you to tell them where to be for what animation.(Thereby defeating the purpose by ending up with giving you more work.)

I like the art style but it unfortunatly will take time to do either way, so the first alpha/beta versions will have stick dogs and chicks.

I see where you're coming from! How about doing what some shooters do and rendering the upper and lower body, as well as rotating arms/weapons. Three parts - animation only on the legs, static or semi-static torso, and arm rotation handled by your software. Seems manageable, no?

Great Idea! Makes flapping ears while falling managable. Great stuff!!
