Just got an email about UCT hosting a Global Game Jam session. I'd really love to organise one up here in Gauteng, but I need numbers: How many of you would come to something like this? Please note we're talking 2 days at the end of January next year. You come through, you make something, no skills/PC/blah required.

So, we're talking school kids all the way through to people who have experience. Pull in contacts people, find out how many bodies we could get there and I can find us a venue given those numbers.

Go!

P.S. It'll be awesome. I can also get TV coverage, most likely ;)

Thinking about it, I would love the opportunity to work with the mighty Squid or creative Nandrew on a project. This could seriously be a hell of a lot of fun.

Would love to be there but end of Jan might be an issue :(

If not on an adventure race I will be there :)

Does anyone know if the Global Game Jam allows proprietary to be used? The UCT venue says it supplies only free software, but does that mean we cannot use outside software we have bought?

The point to my question is that I would like to develop in Unity3D, for which I have a licence, not XNA, Java3D or openGL which UCT would supply.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Besides being a lot of fun, it sounds like it will also provide an oportunity for n00bs such as myself to learn from those with more experience points.
