We are busy making a XNA game for this year's Dream Build Play and I just wanted to share what we have done so far.

We had the idea to create a dark game about laser tag, after a visit to the laser tag at Brightwater Commons one weekend . We wanted to duplicate the cheesyness and the fast paced, dark atmosphere of laser tag. I'm currently doing the coding and my wife's brother is currently working on some levels and a enemy animated character model. We'll replace the current model and sounds with the final ones very soon.

It looks really good and I think it's a brilliant concept. I was wondering how does the points system work (do you get more points for hitting the opponent in the chest instead of the arm etc.) and I noticed the health bars, what exactly happens when they are depleted(do you die or do you respawn somewhere else?). Keep up the good work.

Thanks! We are actually busy tweaking and experimenting with the gameplay. We basically want the weapon to overheat like in mass effect, so the right guage will be your temperature meter (ignore the lighting logo ;) for now) and if you fire a couple of rounds you'll have to wait for the weapon to cool down.

It's going to be a race against time, we're you're going to have to kill as many bots in the least amount of time possible if you want to escape the arena. We're going to try and make it as fast paced as unreal's instagib ... but we were thinking 3 shots then you die and respawn, but we might change it to one shot kill ... to keep up the pace.

Thanks again :)

Its good to see you're making progres on this :) and it looks like you've overcome some of your shadow mapping issues?

Oooh, nice :)

I know you likely have your gameplay down pat already but how are you distinguishing this from all the other FPS' on the market? Apart from it being laser tag.

I ask because this IS DBP so you need something special to make it stand out (views based on what I have seen from the finalists of previous DBPs)

Hi, were actually not to worried about that :) ... our main focus for this year is just to complete a game and focusing on quality more that originality. We actually have plans for a game that'll be very original for next year.

We are playing with power ups at the moment that'll bring in some fun. We've got a power up that'll make your lasers bounce off the walls and you can shoot around corners ... another one is a shield that makes an enemy laser reflect back towards him ... so we're trying to use power ups to give the game a bit more playability!
