Hi im looking for someone to make 3..uhm 6 sprites for my new game-Reaction
Details:
Sprites must be 50x50 in size
Compatable for import into GM
They DONT have to be animated
They must have some kind of light border but still be able to be transparent
There must be 2 distingushable (pardon the spelling) sides (Eg red/bue)
Now the actual sprites:
A ship (battleship preferably)
A tank
platoon of soldiers (all grunts)
Anyone interested?
You'll earn my thanks and a place in the credits (no money, sorry =P)
Also if there ever will be a next version i might need addition sprites but then again that might not even happen
EDIT: i really suck at sprites-thats why im asking

I think people will be more willing to help if you've made the game with placeholder sprites to see what people are getting themselves into. :P

bit small but there you go, i just made some simple ones that aren't tooo bad incase i have to actually use them =P
(ignore the fact both soldier images are image 0 :p)
As you can see its a small job, nothing big =P

Those sprites look cool ;)
Tr00jg is dispensing sage advice: Make the game fun to play and people will line up to help you make it look better. That's exactly what happened with Roach Toaster.

The red circles show range of a selected unit

The buttons are for buying
The counters show how many are left in your inventory (you can place after you are ready for an extra fee)
EDIT: i could put up a demo but there's no action, you can place and select units, thats about it

Tell me, are the sprites just markers, representing the units themselves (like in Risk or Civilization), or are they the actual units, and will be required to rotate/fire/do other fighty things (like most RTSs)? I ask because I'd be happy to do the sprites for you, I just need to know if they absolutely have to be top-down (the battleship looks a little naf as a top-down sprite, from what I've been playing with), or can they be a bit more artistically-posed?
Also, you'll be needing a whole bunch of landscape art, from what I can see. Tileable mountains, forests, rivers, beaches (which have to be animated, imo). How about some buildings and whatnot? Maybe even some ambient environmental stuff - like circling birds, or faint clouds passing overhead. While I won't be able to do tons of work before Saturday (when I'm away on holiday), I could do a few things before then. Standard tiles are all 50x50, amiright?
Basically, if you're making a turn-based, tile-based, modern warfare game, I'm totally down for doing artwork. It'll give me a chance to dust off the ol' tablet.

hit the nail on the head, i just need some simple stuff as i want to get the gameplay right before going into anything complicated. if i can get it playing nicely i' make a larger version with mountains, more units etc etc
Thanx geometrix :)
ill pm you where to send the stuff

Well, therein lies the beauty of having a dedicated artist - you really don't need to complicate things to get things looking good. I'll make the pretty, you make the worky ;)
I would recommend though, that you start making some provisions for line-of-sight blocking (mountains), attack radius reduction (forests) and movement penalties (rivers and forests) this early on. Even if you don't use it yet - it'll add a whole new dimension to the gameplay later on - if later on happens.
Right then. I'm making myself a nice cuppa tea, and breaking out the tablet. Will send through those images as soon as possible.

Indeed. It teaches you the true meaning of 'symbiotic relationship'.

I think dislekcia must've recommended this site about 20 times now. We really do need that resources thread up again, methinks.

Resource thread is NB, true.
Also, best sound package ever == microphone + reasonably decent sound editor + your vocal cords. Fact.
It's amazing what noises you can make with a few onomatopoeias and the right filters.

If you're interested in seeing what can be done with regards to self-made sounds, I've just posted a demo of Zticky Zlime on the forum. Literally every sound effect in that game was made with some creative mouth miking and Adobe Audition.
Excuse the flog.
