Save The Babies_.zip - 2.01MB (http://www.zshare.net/download/66813524b3d4301c/)

I was going through some resources I downloaded from yoyogames, A certain sprite package came with sounds, music and even a description, So I decided to make it. :D

Let me know what you think. :)

edit:

Use up and down to move the dragon and Spacebar to shoot.

Shoot ONLY the demons, not the baby dragons. Collect the baby dragons to get points. You lose when a demon touches you, highscore table included.

Aw, cruddlecakes, I'm having trouble downloading this. It keeps cutting out.

Anybody else having this problem, or is it just my connection?

It's nice that you're learning to use prefab sprite packs a lot, it's a very useful paradigm to hold for game prototyping.

As simple as this game is, I'd still suggest one or two changes. Namely, I don't think that the baby dragons should "home in" on the main dragon, it makes collection far too easy and players can actually (quite easily) get away with low-risk behaviour simply by hanging around the edges of the screen and avoiding the demons entirely.

I'm not necessarily saying that you should put this change into this particular project, but I think it's a helpful design consideration for future reference.

Thanks for the comments.

What if the demons moved in the direction of the mother dragon upon creation? Would this eliminate the low risk behaviour? The babies and the demons moving in a straight line is a tad 'old', so I'm trying to 'blow some fresh air' into this type of game.

The reason I made the babies 'home in' on the mother is because I wanted the player to take into consideration that they might get in the way of the fireballs.

Thanks a lot, I'll fiddle around some more tonight and see what I can come up with. :)

I made this same game with help from my new friend, The Game Makers Apprentice. (http://book.gamemaker.nl/)

Would you recommend that book? Dev.Mag has done some coverage on it in the long-long ago (interview and stuff), but I haven't personally read it.

Yes the book is worth every cent. It teaches you the basics and then pulls you up 2 advanced.
