This was the best place I could think of posting this question:

I want to make my own 3D MMORPG/MORPG, does anyone know where I can download a 3D MMORPG maker?

Preferably it should be free, but I'm willing to pay as long as there is a trial download or something. Basic scripting, 3D modeling shouldn't be a problem for me, I use Milkshape.

I tried realmcrafter, but I don't see a trial download.

Basically it's just for our Internet Cafe, people are getting bored with the games we have, so I decided I want to create such a game that constantly changes so they won't get bored that much.

PLEASE HELP

Thanx in advance :)

I believe this (http://www.realmcrafter.com/catalog/information.php?info_id=15&osCsid=al5pcbn82lcnljmao0rkf0s0f7) is a trial download for Realmcrafter, but I can't quite be sure how much functionality there is.

Otherwise, I'd recommend something like Torque, since it's very multiplayer-friendly (actually - obsessive).

But what I'd really recommend is that you just don't bother. Unless you have a team of developers behind you and a good few years ahead of you, you simply will not be able to make something better or more worthwhile than any one of the many free online RPGs. That's not me being a ****, for the record, that's just me being a realist.

Geo's right. A mumorpuger is a huge project for a single developer to pull off even with help from pre-built tools. It's great that you want to try your hand at game design, but something like this is really HUGE, and there really are too many of them out there, IMHO.

Nothing stopping you from making something smaller though... ;)

I'd suggest putting together a few unique little puzzles in GM or something equally time-efficient for your internet cafe friends. That way they can all compete to see who is the best at solving specific types of puzzles or whatever and you get to produce something fun for them every few weeks without having to break your head against the principles of an MMO.

Thanx for the advice, it's actually a hobby of mine I want to "integrate" into our internet cafe as I don't do much at work except surf the internet all day, so I have plenty of time to do the developing, modeling etc. I also want it to work through the network only as we don't want to use our cap for MMO's, otherwise I wouldn't be on the forums now :) . You're not being a ****, for the record, it's just you giving me advise :)

Actually I am busy with something smaller, but it's getting boring because I have predermined sprites and textures, I'm using eclipse and it's a 2D game.

Thanx for the advice, I'll do that too. But I'm actually looking for something we can interact with each other via chat, battles or trades. Eclipse has all these things built in so it wasn't that hard to do, that's another reason I want to try this. I want a true challenge :)

Can't you just set up a locla networked MMO using something like Neverwinter Nights?

I only say this as it'll be at least 1-2 years before anything that you work on will be playable, and if you guys are looking for something to do *now*, that's a long time to be waiting.

ye , or consider smaller concepts such as using the INCREDIBLE warcraft 3 map editor, make yourself a map that is rpg, with the already built game. there is endless possibility, and u can run a pvpgn server locally, or play online. there is so much you can do with warcraft 3, so i would suggest it as the best option for what you are doing, not to mention to 1 million RPG maps already available, with awesome stories and gameplay

No, NWN is already licensed and you have to actually buy the game.

Using eclipse, I created something in 2 hours. I kinda want the game to start off really simple and then evolve and grow as we make progress.

If you guys don't think this is a good idea, I'll follow your advice and leave it be :) That is why I asked you guys for advice in the first place :)

Our advice may seem harsh and negative, but that's only because most newcomers have more enthusiasm than experience in the beginning (I count myself in this group as well).

If you truly believe you can do it, then go for it. We'd love to see how you progress and hear your war-stories. Just let us know if we were totally right/wrong about something this ambitious 6 months from now.

dont leave it, just use the already made tools... warcraft is seriously a good option for what you want...

I second the NWN idea. You can make some awesome stuff in that system :)

I don't have NWN and even if I did, our cafe has to buy 9 licenses (1 per PC) and I'd have to bring mine to work.

Warcraft 3 is a good idea, but can you save your stats?

I'm open for all/any help here as I don't know the warcraft 3 mapeditor, and btw I don't own WC3 either anyway. :)

The War3 map editor is very flexible. Not quite as suited to what you appear to want to do as the NWN engine, but it can be made to do a lot of things outside its intended purpose. I've made things like 3rd person hack 'n slash RPG's and movies. I even made a slightly flimsy jRPG combat system once. It's great fun to mess around with, actually. :)

As for stat gathering, I believe there was a way to get the editor to save external files, if I recall correctly. You could manipulate that for your uses.

I'm downloading realm crafter now, I'll see how it works.

I'll try to get Warcraft 3, it sounds cool. Once saw a WC3 cart racing map on a friends pc, we never tried out the mapeditor.

If you guys could help me get started with some hints and tips for it, I'd do that. When I get WC3 I'll make sure to post it here :)

ill definately help with that, the editor is the m9ost flexible and ridiculously powerful, underrated tool ever. Iv seen maps rangin from 3rd person star wars racing games to full on WOW style gaming, even in w3.

on that note, its called worldeditor. the cool thing is u can get pvpgn, its the blizzard multiplayer server. you can customize it to have your own graphics and sponsor things, and they can create and use battle net accounts on local multiplayer. The lair uses this etensively as well for all local warcraft3 competitions and such. the maps can save files too, but you track players stats on the local server.
For wexample, wins/losses experience, exactly as battlenet does, cos it is battlenet. there is a lot of cool front ends for pvpgn including web based ones that are so easy, and u can manage maps and players from one pc...

It really is a good option if u wanna buid a fun RPG kinda map, and using the editor its simple scripting even.

www.owned.co.za/fail has a warcraft map made by my friend, its incredibly in depth and has some amusing laughs in it, like thee ultimate weapon being a MS CD installer, lol..
the reason for this punting is u can open any map thats not locked into the editor, and look at how things happen. There is also the cool choice of making completely custom UI, sprites, models, characters, scripts and tilesets so its literally a whole mod thing.

Its an option, ill be more than happy to help you along learning the editor too.

Have a look at http://www.mmoworkshop.com/trac/mom for the MMOKit for Torque. The guy behind Minions of Mirth created this. There are also lots of art resources available.

You can use it for free but its an addon kit for Torque so you might have to get a Torque Indie license, well, just check. The main problem with this is that you might need to recompile Torque after adding the kit and the only way to get Torque code (legally) is via a license. Been a while since I checked the kit, so things might have changed.

Thanx alot, I'll PM you my E-mail as soon as I get WC3 if it's okay with you :)

I downloaded the trial of Realm crafter yesterday, and it's VERY easy. The only thing that sucks is that you can't really save, so I'll have to buy it before I can actually fully try it. But the mapediting and stuff is VERY easy.

Torque is in general a little hard for me to handle, I'm still battling with the fish tutorial, but nevertheless I'll check it out, thanx xyber
