This thread is for discussing all matters concerning Game.Dev's presence at rAge. Please post all questions, thoughts and ideas, about the upcoming event here. Created on behalf of Grigi.

@Grigi: Sure, no problem. I need the "Inky 3D, SAGAMEDEV, SPINEFORGE and Tiny Squishy" logos in vector format or a high res jpeg version. (300dpi) Need the final timetable also. Speak to Nandrew about what text to include on the flyer. When you have all the info rounded up, email everything to: blrdesign@yahoo.com. I'll send you some designs to look at. :)

Also, do you know a place where I can get size A2 format, printed at reasonable prices? I plan on getting some posters for Dev.Mag printed. Let me know.

@Dislekcia: Our project will be sorted out before rAge. I've found a way to make both our lives a bit easier. ;) I'll send you some templates later today.

Awesome! I'm really looking forward to seeing them :).

Plus: Last year's Dev.Mag posters went down really well, people kept wanting to steal them.

Cyberninja, if you in Joburg get hold of Sign-A-Million, they pretty cheap!!!

Our printer can only do up to A3, so for anything larger we tend to go to some little printing shop just outside work (don't even know its name!), and they ask ~R150 for a laminated A2, if my memory serves me correctly.
I have no idea if this is a reasonable price or not.

In that little zipfile was an SVG file, that is a vector-format file. It should open in just about every vector editor, but Nitrogen said that Photoshop could not open it?

Which version of Photoshop does he have?

Edit: Actually, for vector-based piccies, I believe that Adobe Illustrator would be needed.

Idon't know. Its not really important, but I'll need some blurb for Dev.mag and game.dev. I was thinking in the order of 50 words, I also still need to work on the formatting of the timetable...
Beh, the way this is going, I'll probably have to "expand" it to an A4 poster, loathe to do that as it will cost me more, but if it cannot be otherwise, then so be it.

Edit: Cyberninja I just got confirmation, the Spineforge logo is accepted, the other still need to be accepted... I know the inky3d & sagamedev logos WILL change, though. But I'll upload those as it comes.

I'm also not thrilled about the idea of expanding the stuff, cost aside. I think that having flyers like that would be quite sexy.

Mind you, if we're talking timetables and such, having a few A4 versions *anyway* would be a good plan.

Ok guys I thought of something that could be great for the game.dev stand. I don't know if this idea has come up yet but here it is. What if we had a CD with all the previous issues of dev mag, all the games that we have completed developing and all demos and prototypes that we are all currently busy with. It will be all the work of the game.dev community. This would be rather expensive but if this idea is endorsed by you guys, I will take this project under my wing. I will try get a sponsorship for the discs and if all fails, I will write them on my drive. I was thinking of maybe 300 discs(100 discs to give out per day). Printing covers may be a small problem but it could be overcome. What do you guys think?

We did something like this last year. Burnabis/Mushi Mushi did it, I remember. It went like hotcakes.

It would be cool. What do the other guys say?

grigi

So you prefer it to be A5 -sized flyers? Then I'll have to make it fit :P

As it is I'll be able to squeeze Luma in there, and drop the idea of a graph of the rAge floor plan.
Then I'll be able to fit the whole timetable too (I hope)

@Tr00jg, I would know what the rest of the guys thought if they replied, so guys PLZ reply. Do you approve or not of the idea? Im not promising that I'll get it done but I need to know if I should try or not.

@grigi: The svg file doesn't seem to work with my vector program or Photoshop CS2 either :/ Could you convert the file into one of these formats:

- Freehand (.fh7)
- Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
- Corel Draw (.cdr)

That should do the trick. Yeah, A5 Flyers with be better. Don't worry about space, we'll make a plan. There's always a plan. ;)

@Cinimodza: Thanks. I'm having a look at the site now. ;)

@UntouchableOne: Tr00jg is right, "Mushi Mushi" took care of the cds the last time around. I think you should contact him and find out if he plans on doing it again this year? If he is, maybe you guys could work together to produce the cds. If he's not to busy. :)

@ Cyberninja, cool but is that guy on the forums or do I need to contact him by other means?

I'm already looking at making a CD for rAge. Not quite sure how reproduction will work (still waiting to hear back from some possible sponsors) but I'll make a plan. Last year we just burned DVDs (yes, DVDs - we had over 4 gigs of useful data for people) at the stand and people put their names down to come and collect them.

This year I'd like to make the CD a lot more polished, cut out a lot of the "flab" on the DVD and give it nifty interface.

I don't know if Mushi will be able to help much, seeing as he's gotten a new job apparently. Haven't heard from him in a while.

.svg is an Inkscape file. Inkscape is free but dosen't export to very many useful formats. I think GIMP is your best bet to convert them.

@dis. Ok. I didnt know you had this covered but if you need a hand, I can help out.

Sad that such a _simple_ and easy to develop for file format such as SVG is getting so little support from vector applications, Every new browser can natively render it (FF, IE, KHTML/Safari/Nokia browser, Opera, Adobe plugin for ie6)

@Cyberninja.
Thanks for the ideas

You can get the latest stuff here http://196.4.161.17:8080/rAge5.zip (http://196.4.161.17:8080/rAge4.zip)

I included a .ai file, but inkscape's ai export seems to mess up the gradients, so sagamedev and spineforge logo are a bit messed up, the rest are fine.

Included is also the fixed up version of the inky3d logo and some updated blurb.
Also tried doing a few things differently (I'm a little happier with the new layout, minor changes really)

@Squid
The newer versions of Inkscape has a lot more import/export filters,
Project has following import filters: CDR, CMX, AI, CGM, WMF, XFIG, SVG, SK, SK1, AFF and export filters: AI, SVG, SK, SK1, CGM, WMF.

Of course since this is quite newly added, there are quite a few little problems, like AI and the gradients.

A final 120 dpi dump of the flyer.
http://196.4.161.17:8080/rAge8.jpg

I'll be printing 600 of these flyers in A5-double sided format.
Question is how to get these to the guys at the rAge stands before Friday moring...

Squid

Just a warning, pamphlets tend to deplete very quickly.

grigi
25-09-2007, 05:24 PM
Yes, that is known.
I have asked dislekcia to be somewhat stingy, and maybe encourage people to actually read it without just handing it out.

I mean, we do a few larger ones, post them outside the stands, and then only hand them out ot people who seems interested.

He said he could easily hand out 300 when only limiting it to interested parties, so I decided on 600 (cause I'm not a millionaire). Depending on the usage of the flyers on friday, we can predict if I need to print more. But I'll have to draw the line somewhere. Maybe I provide you guys with a bunch of "cheaper" monochrome ones too?
