Check out this video of a guy who's turned the Wii remote into a head tracking device: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Johnny Chung Lee (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/) has made available a couple of projects using the tracking ability of the Wii remote plugged into his PC. Besides the incredible effects he's able to produce, the projects (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/) are written in C# using DirectX and are available on his website!
I really hope Nintendo latch onto this guy to bring out commercial products and new interactive games. I can just imagine Dislekcia using his ninja skills to dive around the room looking for the perfect angle of attack.
Mental note to get Wii remotes

I believe there's a GM extension for this. It's called Giimote, but I forgot where you can get it.

Dont worry Dis, i got so excited i went and bought a Wii remote and a bluetooth dongle, and im already using the movement sensors as a mouse cursor with the help of GlovePIE. Im going to make me a cheap 2 IR LED setup above my monitor this week and give you an update.
Will be trying out the GM library soon too. Awesome fun.

K, so R499 at CNA for remote (Sure you can get it cheaper, i just bought it their for Edgars account), and about R160 for a Bluetooth dongle (Which i needed for cellphones anyway).
Will update on a price for "Home Made IR Bar".
B.T.W. The Game Maker extension is wicket easy and powerfull. You have FULL controll of the remote and add-ons if you have them. I smell mega "Rumble" in my games to come ;)
Tested it quick and im busy making a small scroller to test the analogue motion controllers, works like a dream. Get a wiimote and ill upload a demo.

You could, theoretically, make an IR bar out of candles. It also works.
I'm going to trudge over and grab meself a bluetooth dongle soon. I've always wanted to play around with my remotes ever since I got the Wii. funfun will ensue.

I'm trying to contemplate adding three separate control schemes to a single game.
Ahh, good times.

This sounds so awesome. I really wish I had a wii... just for the wiimote...
But for me R500 seems expensive so maybe I can find a friend or something to borrow one from. There are so many fun functions to a gyroscopic controller!

Heheh, such uses for the Wii controller sound very cool indeed. ^_^
If I had one, I might well experiment with it - it looks interesting, and could, I think, be a very useful game interface...
(I haven't actually used one yet myself, so I speak based on what I've seen and heard. ^^; )
[edit]I hadn't loaded the video originally linked-to in this thread (I had been going primarily on what had been said about it here), but I ended up watching what seems to be the same video at Penny Arcade's, and... wow. That can look really incredible. o_o

Holy crap.
I just watched that video (dunno why I didn't do it earlier). That's something we'd have killed to be able to do that cheaply back when I was working in VR.
I second his request for games! NYARRR!

need for speed wii controller edition :>
how funny would that look... sigh. i love the entertainment value of these remotes, not for the gaming value, but for watching people thrust their whole effort into smacking an invisible baseball or something, its hilarious

Uhhm, you can already play NFS:Carbon with the Wii remote with the use of 2 freely downloadable programs, GlovePIE and PPJoy. Very easy, it emulates a joystick device, and glovepie tells the emulated joystick device what your Wiimote is doing.
