This seems a bit of a really strange coincidence to me... both of these closed down during the Unity Unite 2010 conference...
So I (conspiratorially) think it may have been one (or more) of three things:
There demise was totally unrelated to the Unity conference.
They saw what was happening at the Unity conference and decided to call it quits.
Unity Technologies deviously manipulated their demise in some way (or at least organised for the announcements to take place during their conference).
Seriously though, I hope for all the Torque developers out there that the engine is sold to a really awesome company who does great things with it.

Lol, thinking THAT far outside of the box is just a quick way too look crazy, Blackships.
Disclaimer _ This is my personal opinion.
There was NO rocket science involved. The company (IAC) is a massive financial corporation that buys up things that will hopefully make them even richer. Have a look at their list of companies below. InstantAction as a company - Invested in something STUPID. A facebook guitar hero clone? Who plays facebook in groups? Is that even viable competition for the cost of licensing songs people recognise?
They spent money on things that lost them too much to recover. From a finanacial point of view - companyX is LOSING MONEY. Can we afford to try again and risk the same loss? No. Sorry guys, KTHXBAI.
EDIT: Just got some new info : IAC eliminated a total of 1300 jobs, closed down three offices, and shut down one entire company (InstantAction). All in the same 48 hour timespan.

Side note : ask.com was also shut down not too long ago.
Why was Ask.com on this list, and not InstantAction or TorquePowered?

I just want to know what effect this is going to have on Luma since they contributed to iTorque 2D?

It shouldn't affect us very much. While we were working on iTorque 3D at the moment, it is not our primary focus and we have a few other projects that we have been / will be working on. If we are unable to complete iT3D, it will be some money lost to us, but it shouldn't be too critical (we hope!).
