As Yet Unnamed Space Shoot 'Em Up
Hey guys. Enjoy this short demo of a little something I've been working on. Tell me what you think, and how the game can be improved.
Get it here (1.3MB). (http://64digits.com/users/F1ak3r/AYUSSHMUP_Demo_1.zip)

Release Notes
Double weapons are not yet possible.
Only the Obliterator and Rockets are available in this demo.
The background is static, because ESA's making tiles.
The demo level is very short, it's only meant to give you an idea of what the game will be like.
I use the Game Info window right now, but I assure you I'll get rid of it later.
The shop is ugly, because I'm redoing it later.
Everything is free... for now.

I think that's everything. Enjoy the demo, and please give feedback!

enjoyed the demo, but as you said, too short!
space ship design looks good, and the music fits the overall retro fell very well
as for suggestions, some more indication of when you hit an enemy or get hit would be nice.
like a sound or some effect, because at the moment it's difficult to know when a bullet hits with this kind of fast gameplay.

It's a good start, I think. ^_^
It would, of course, be nice to have some in-level powerups (shield rechargers come to mind), and I would like to be able to use my shield and fire at the same time - but that might go against your intentions for the device.
However. are the smallest ships supposed to jump to the side? If so, you might want to make them move through the intervening space, or provide them with some special effect, rather than having them simply "skip" to somewhere else - the current effect is a little jarring, I think, and I at first took it for a glitch in their death animation, as I recall.
You might also want to start the buy menu on primary weapons, and perhaps also provide a more overt indication that there is another page - it may just be my tiredness, but I missed the primary weapons menu during my first few times, as I recall.
Finally, I find that if I move to a wall and continue to hold down the movement key, the player ship's engine exhaust moves a small distance further in that direction, and out of position.
I don't suppose that there's any chance that you'll have whatever title you settle on in the end fit that same acronym, is there? I find it amusing. :P

@dINGLE: Thanks, the graphics were done by ESA (not a member of this forum), and he chose the music as well.
Thanks for that, I'll put some particles in when you get hit/hit something. Then I'll worry about sound effects a little later.
@Thaumaturge: Arba? Yates (our surnames) Ultimate Super Shoot 'Em Up? Another Yummy Uneducational Space Shoot 'Em Up? Are You Under Something Shoot 'Em Up? Anything You Use Sucks Shoot 'Em Up?
And You Used Some Super Health Medicine Under Pretenses? Ag Your Umbrella Sucks So Heavily Man yoU Poser?
Okay, sorry, most of those are rubbish. Got a little silly there. But having the eventual name fit the same acronym would be cool, because I've come to really love the acronym.
Hmm, powerups are a definite must. I'll be adding those as soon as possible. I guess I could allow you to fire with the shield, but I'd probably tone down the fire rate for that.
Yeah, the small ships are supposed to do that. I guess I was a bit lazy about that, and I think I'll put an effect there, as it'll be easier than making the things actually move to the side.
The menu is very much in development. Now that I think about it, it would've been better if I had left the thing out of this demo. Suffice to say, it'll get much better. I'm thinking tabbed pages instead of those lazy "</>" tacked-on bits.
Thanks for the input, I'll fix everything for the next demo, which may take a while, 'cause I'm busy with some other stuff right now. *coughelementsofescapev4cough*
