First strike ~ Bug or is it just me?

That is a common occurence, my friend. You have a platemail in your inventory (13 damage reduction at lvl 4 with no EM on board means you have taurogs shield -5 and platemail -8 (-2 per level)). A platemail gives you slow strike, and I assume the icon with the swirly stars over the sword is that. So you're perma slowed and can't first strike (except possibly against another slowed enemy, not sure).

The only other way to get slowed as a player, I think, is by prepping the Really Big Sword.
