Ah, fair enough! Avatar described it last page as "the first non-cheese strategy to a challenge that was built not to be beaten by any non-cheese strategies" so I was just going based on that. Description edited!

(I hadn't realized Vampire still worked after the bloodless golem change, and I've been deliberately avoiding finding out what heretic is capable of so I can figure out Heretic Gold on my own unspoiled.)

I think Purecaster Troll will be able to handle it, just because having fireballs only cost 4 mana and an innate out-of-combat-but-doesn't-use-darkness BLUDTOPOWA would be so strong here, but that can't really be tested until the nerf goes through. But if even Wizard is struggling, I'm not sure how viable other spellcasting classes would be...

Bug reports:

1. Tinker on Curious VGT marks an unexplored square in the courtyard with a glyph-shaped ? marker of the type normally used to indicate the subdungeon entrance. It's always a normal empty tile with nothing there. (Maybe it's where the subdungeon would have been if this had been a normal dungeon with a normal subdungeon? This behavior does not occur in regular VGT.)

2. If the Naga Fireweavers (which have Retaliate Fireball) show up on the Withering Magic floor (which gives all enemies Retaliate Fireball), then slowing them with an effect like WEYTWUT does not remove the Retaliate Fireball trait and still lets them counterattack. (I do not know if the Illusion / Mystery Meat exhibit this behavior in regular VGT. I don't even know if this is possibly intentional, to give the Withering Magic penalty an actual effect if it shows up on the Fireweaver floor?)

Trip reports:
Tinker can reach Horatio. Without a Soul Orb. A Curious VGT Tinker win is my next objective.

We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

Shade_of_ox did beat the current version of Curious VGT with a vampire, but that involved The One Horn and the wicked guitar to get lvl 9 bloodcows.
So that's cheesy.
Heretic run isn't cheesy but isn't really the kind of regular run that can work with other classes.

By the way, why tinkers? They don't have anything special appart from being able to carry lots of items...

Okay, I watched your Curious VGT run video, and wow! Even though I knew the ending I was on the edge of my seat.
I was really scared that you would anger EM or GG with your Lifesteal, but thankfully you still had indulgences when you hit Horatio under GG.

I don't have much to say there, your run indeed had small mistakes but overall it was perfectly played. The only small things I noticed are:

But I'm being *very* nitpicky. Congrats for the win, that's one of the most impressive runs I've ever seen!

Now you can go back to regular dungeoning, and you'll see how easy it all seems :-)

My comments being partially wrong show how much I am used to playing VGT in it's normal form and not it's Curious one...

I misread and thought shade_of_ox was the one one going Tinker. I guess that your strat involves a rigged kingdom, the usual suspects (Platemail, Soul Orb, Dragon Soul) and some extras (Crystal Ball, Battlemage Ring).

I wonder if this will suffice, though. Mana Shield is especially good at getting rid of DPs. The Nagas were quite complicated to deal with when I tried with a Wizard.
