Yay, my first win as a rat. Won at level 8. Got in the top 10 for damage and XP but am the slowest winner and not much for piety. Speed is not my thing.

Didn't worship until near the end when I picked up GG to get mana refills. Had to desecrate Taurog to get enough piety to get enough mana to beat Bleatty. Kind of like "swallowed the cat to catch the rat to catch the mouse to get the spider...etc". Apologies to y'all who don't know that old song from grammar school.

Really, I only won because I was lucky enough to get a Dodge potion so I could hit Bleatty once and give him 13 corrosion. Then just fireballs.

I still don't get the Rat, though. I had the Bear Mace and I was knocking monsters into other monsters. I thought this was supposed to spread corrosion to the second monster? It didn't. I guess it's just the damage that passes along.

Vampire in Halls of Steel
Vampire is a class that gives me pause, since he's very prone to swings based on what the RNG gives us. The preps available weren't very promising. However, once in the dungeon things started looking up. My shop scroll produced a Vampiric Blade, and BURNDAYRAZ and ENDISWAL were mere steps into the dungeon to give a strong opener. GETINDARE (always the best glyph find for the vamp) was on the field, and a platemail was sitting right next to the Indomitable. With the subdungeon being gold, I was able to go on a shopping spree and slaughter him at level 5. The Tormented One is not a very good boss pull for the Vampire, but with 50% magic resistance from the Orb of Lusory beating him down wasn't too hard at all. I ended parched.

Ah well...Rat victory yesterday...vampire loss today. I feel I could have won this one with a couple of smarter decisions earlier on. I was just a hit or two away from winning.

On the lighter sad...vampires can't worship Dracul? They should be forced to worship Dracul! And how come they can be cursed but can't worship any god?

Knitpicking as a hobby.

On the serious side... I need to beat Vicious Steel one more time to unlock vampire. Wizard and Assassin were easy but nothing else is working. Any thoughts for next best combo to win that one?

@Zazzlegut:

Hey, just want to make sure you know about the damage reduction thingy to deal with the Indomitable. As mentioned, once you have some damage reduction, like 5, you only need to take off some number (I think it was 15 or thereabouts) of death protections, the boss only deals 5 or less damage, then you can start hitting it until it dies without taking any damage at all. You just need a Burn Salve after the whole thing is done.

[Just uncertain what is making it tough for you. Is it more of Count Blahblah, or the dungeon as a whole, with the Cursed golems, Weakening monsters, etc.]
