After having almost won a purist run where I made the colossal mistake of picking up Warrior's Pact I realized that the most important thing in purist VGT is getting lucky. You can play badly and still have an easier time compared to when you play very carefully with better strategy but bad monster composition and curse order screws you.

Literally the next try after that sloppy run I won it. I could say it was thanks to my skills, but the true winner was 1st floor GG, early Midas Gloves, Bysseps, Halpme and a Weytwut to beat the 1st striker floor. And also the lack of screw ups. No revealed Binlor floor (it had a Dancing Blade, but my Weytwut countered it), the revealed floor came after the Binlor one, the no XP was encountered late, curse floor when I barely had resists and so on.

The worst thing in the run was getting Pm so late it was meaningless, but the good monster selection and curse order made it a non-issue.

Most of the run I was worshiping GG, taking 6-7 Absolutions, bunch of cleansings and an occasional protection. Grabbed Enligtenment at 11 beads, by the end filled up 3 slots. Converted to Taurog around the 5th sub for the armor and some extra damage to put guys back into 2-shot territory, kept some popcorn and glyphs around for an emergency exit. Pm was eveading me, but Dracul came just in time when I needed more resists. Converted most of my glyphs, I left Halpme for Drac piety, and after had enough space picked up Bysseps and bought a Tower Shield. I had no hopes for maxing out resists that late, so I took a Lifestal, which eased piety generation as well. And it's always nice to dodge with a liefestealing rouge.

The remaining 2 floors were easy, my towering damage and Bysseps took care of goos too. Enlightenment really payed out against Horatio, my enlarged mana pool allowed me to store more Bysseps hits. Blackspace was getting scarce, it was only enough for 2 more casts.

The bossfight was easy, I had lot of piety to stack sanguine and never got into a situation where I had to tap into bloodpools early. In the end I cashed in my piety with TT.

@Astral: Congrats!!

I agree that yeah, Purist VGT really needs the cards to come up your way to have a credible chance. More than the other dungeons, VGT is all about the unexpected, and Purist clamps your resources so dramatically that if the unexpected breaks against you, it's not gonna end well. But it feels good to have it complete, no? :)

Wow, luck or no luck, that looks like a hugely satisfying run :) i love seeing a VGT run where it's not always the same rotation of items, and whenever something gets worked in. Particularly like the wheytwut, and a 11 bead Englihtment means you've been using the cool GG utility throughout and you still got enough resists ^^

Thanks sitnaltax and Lujo!

Yeah, it feels very satisfying :)
After losing like what feels ~30 times I can finally say I've beat it once :D

Now onto my last badge! I have a feeling it won't be hard, yesterday I gave it a try and immediately made it to H and went as far as dealing 3400 damage, so I have good hopes for it.

VGT Goated :D
Took about 5 tries or so. If you know how to cheese gods and get a bit lucky you're set for victory.

Btw this is how my goat looked like during bossbattle:
http://s14.postimg.org/m4c7inowx/wargoat.png

Practically I was a hairy sanguine and CP fueled warlord. If my last god weren't Taurog I would have cheezed Spirit Pact for a silly amount of extra refills. Even without that, I pulled 3 and had 2 leftover. And many many bloodpools.

If you look at my preps, you may be surprised by Patches, that's close to suicidal on goats. I have to admit I was ready to scum for a Halpme + Soul Orb combo, but the really cool glyph loadout and a Viper Ward changed my mind. I can't remember what kind of boons did I pick up and when in that constant god jumping, but I know I always tried to keep my piety high and immediately stole major boons, mainly resist ones. I always dumped food into piety under GG, and lost some under Binlor because he always came at the wrong time :P
It was only at my 3rd visit to him that I could take boons without risking my precious resists.
After GG, my next best piety generator was JJ, who was a real jerk at the beginning, not only debuffed my heavily, he was buried in the middle of the tower and was completely unreachable. So I could only get boons from him on our second meeting. That time I went completely overboard, bought petition and 2-2 boosts.

My popcorn handling and high level monster hunting was very liberal. I benefited not from levelups, when I had a god I liked I stayed longer, when not, I tried to level up soon. At times food stock made me slay popcorn too.

The goat bonus was very helpful for spiking annoying monsters, though I tried to save up some for Horatio too. Mostly I converted food and timed it so it gave piety as well. Once I overdid it a little, in the Binlor cave a level up teleported me far into the blackspace after a fight with litte food and no potions. Almost died there :D
Other times my high CP level interfered with Dracul/GG piety gaining, had to look for something tough not to waste the 'ding'.

The harder part of the run was managing gods, killing monsters with my high health/resists and great glyphs was easy. My resists were so high I could ignore Taurog's gear by the end. It's kinda funny, but I planned to buy the Midas Gloves early, but the easy kills everywhere made me forget it. I only found it again when I was checking for possible CP fodder :P

The bossfight was super easy. I didn't even need Whupaz, but just to make sure I don't lose such a great run to miscalculation I quaffed it.

Oh and this is how a rainbowed VGT looks like:

What a hipster kingdom :P

Thanks :D

Can't wait for that. I wonder if the new class will introduce new borders as well.
And keep up, you'll get it soon!

I.. Whoa. Color me surprised, Astral. I didn't even bother trying it yet because I wrote it off as too time consuming and near impossible without amazing luck. Thanks for showing that it's possible, and congrats!

Thank you :)

If you can do something about poison and manaburn, then the goat becomes one of the strongest VGT class. You can convert between gods several times which gives you a lot of possibilities for building your character stronger. After taking the boons you don't even worry about being permanently locked under that god. If random doesn't screw you by never letting you join Drac, then you're pretty likely to win on any good try.

Personally I think Purist VGT is much harder than Goatperson VGT. Right preps (and vetos) make a lot of difference.
