I took Mana -> Health and the +10% damage medal, along with Quest Items, a Compression Scroll, and +Gold instead of Patches (although the Smuggler's Den might have been a better choice). The warlocks actually went down with little trouble - Taurog's helmet provided enough resistance for me to take one hit and they went down in two, which thanks to first strike actually made them easier than the Meat Men. There was a subdungeon, but I either never found ENDISWAL or converted it early on, so I don't know what was in it; I thought about scumming for subdungeons, but that just adds too many variables (and you'll consume even more tiles looking for it, rather than leaving the walls hidden until the end). Oh, and I had one other embarrassing mistake; I found and bought a Tower Shield but converted it well before the boss because my inventory was too full. In hindsight, that was... sub-optimal. Agnostic Collar was the only other bought item that was of much use.
I'm not sure if Gorgons could pull it off - in case you missed the dev's explanation,
death gaze is quite a bit weaker than it was in the alpha. +100% damage (more like +200% since it ignores resists) is nice, and combined with poison strike and phys resist should still be enough to take out Horatio, but it will be a significant challenge to get to him (especially without exhausting all available tiles).
