So, as I posted in the gods thread, one possible option for helping the monk would be to make Weakening weaken you relative to the damage you do, to the extent that a character that does little enough damage (ie. monk) would take no weakening at all.
An even more radical version of this would be to have Weakening trigger off the players attack, rather than the monster's attack (it corrodes your weapon), giving you an amount of Weakening based on the amount of damage you do to the monster. This would mean that if you could get the monster down to low enough life, you would take no weakening from hitting it once.
Similarly, Mana Burn could still prevent you from gaining mana, but only take away mana based on the amount of damage you do (maybe 5%)
