So how is the new wizard treating everybody?

I've always considered the wizard to be one of the weakest classes, but I am wondering if his new inventory management powers might change that. I think that for purist runs, he's actually even weaker than ever, but for highly prepped runs, there are probably some amazing combos we can pull off.

Anyone done anything broken with him yet?

Well, I always thought he was weak in alpha, but in beta he spawns an extra fireball glyph, which makes purist runs a LOT easier for him. Being able to carry lots of sexy weapons and armor and patches in addition to having all those tiny glyphs works out really well too. I think he is still one of the weaker classes, but he has a ton of cool stuff he can do now that makes him feel good enough for the time being.

Much closer to alpha functionality, still not strong per say (-25% physical damage hurts!) but it's not Fighter.

Yeah, it's pretty awful, but it could be MUCH worse. It just can't get enough damage from spells and it has an attack penalty. If any class has an attack penalty, it should be bloodmage, cause they get a LOT more fireball damage than wizards.

I had one incredible wizard who could shoot 1080 damage in fireballs. Gnome, find JJ for three boost manas (+12) and Chaos Avatar. Had 11 potions (Keg of Mana) and 25 mana.

I personally find the best wizard is a human wizard who uses HALPMEH. The HALPMEH glyph gets the best relative discount of any glyph for the wizard (except BYSSEPS, but that's not repeatable), and the human racial bonus helps counter-act the wizard's class penalty. He's actually pretty decent in the melee if you prepare a shield and dragonshield.

Hmm... Never tried that. I still don't think it shapes up to the JJ gnome wizard, but I might be wrong.

Someone did post calculations once. Byssepp + Halpmeh (or maybe just Helpmeh alone!) tends to far outdamage Fireball Wizard, considering how many items support physicals and not magic. This is made even better now since the Wizard can now pick up more items.

Sort of makes me wonder what happens if we change the ability to something like

"-2 MP cost for glyphs that costs 5 or more MP"

Because having a Wizard's general best strategy to beat someone with unlimited blade works is funny.
