Thoughts on Strategic Alter Unlocks

So, the number of alters that spawn is now proportional to the number you have unlocked. So far, I've built up the following table:

(number unlocked / number appearing / probability of any one god appearing / probability of a specific 2-deity combo)
1 / 1 / 100% / 0%
2 / 1 / 50% / 0%
3 / 1 / 33% / 0%
4 / 2 / 50% / 16.6%
5 / 2 / 40% / 10%
6 / ?
7 / ?
8 / ?
9 / 3 / 33% / 8.3%

This raises an interesting question: is it still possible to do a strategic unlock? Obviously you could unlock only one deity, though your options for a monotheism are fairly limited; pretty much restricted to Paladins to avoid the nasty piety hits TT and GG can throw your way for certain tactics. However, looking at the table I've generated so far it seems that there may be some peaks in the middle which allow for a fairly reasonable odds of specific combos appearing.

For instance, at the 4-alter level (where I am currently), your odds of getting a specific deity are significantly higher than at the 9-alter level, and your odds of getting a specific 2-deity combo are twice as high! Although certainly not predictable in the sense of strategic unlocks last version, this gives you significantly better odds. It seems a strategic unlock should at very least move to the 4-alter level in this build, since you lose little over the 2-alter level if you choose your additional deities well.

Has anyone filled out the higher levels? I'd be interested to see if there's another sweet-spot at the 6 or 7 alter level...

Four is where you want to be. I'd go for MA, JJ, GG, and TT.

4 is the ideal point to be. 7 is the second best. 3 out of 7 versus 2 out of 4.

So the 7th unlock is when the 3rd alter appears on the field? If you can confirm this, I'll fill out the tablel.

Anyways 3 out of 7 does give you the advantage of having a third alter in play, so even if it does worsen your odds of getting specific deities or deity combos, you do have more to work with. This scenario would give you a 43% chance of drawing a specific deity, and a 14% chance of a specific 2-deity combo. Although this is slightly worse than the 4-alter level, the added benefit of having a third alter for desecrations and additional combo potential may make it worthwhile.

True, so I suppose that balances it out. Anyways, I'm pretty sure you spawn an extra once you break a multiple of 3 (0,3,6), but I'm not 100% on that.

If it's 3 alters for 6 unlocks, that'd be the best level by a longshot, with a 50% chance of a specific deity and a 20% chance of a specific 2-deity combo.

Can anyone confirm?

5 gods is definitely 2 altars.
I think the odds are:

1 / 1 / 100% / 0%
2 / 1 / 50% / 0%
3 / 1 / 33% / 0%
4 / 2 / 50% / 16.6%
5 / 2 / 40% / 10%
6 / 2 / 33% / 6.6%
7 / 3 / 42% / 14.2%
8 / 3 / 37% / 10.7%
9 / 3 / 33% / 8.3%

Can we get confirmation on the 6-unlock level? That's the only question remaining.

I had 7 gods unlocked and was only seeing 2 altars. I verified this by going to Naga City and seeing that I didn't have Binlor or Pactmaker.

I then unlocked Binlor, which caused me to go to 3 altars (and Pactmaker suddenly started appearing as an altar - which was strange since I had already found it three times in the subdungeon)
