New vampire is pretty fun. I like where he is right now, even if I kind of miss the "Explore everywhere then start killing" gameplay from alpha.

Edit: Actually, I've encountered something with the new vampire. I don't know why, but a lot of times the combat readout will change from a victory to a defeat. Killed myself a few times that way. Is there some interaction here I'm not getting, like life drain only working on a full hp enemy or such?

Let's say you have 10 life steal and 30 hp.

And the example enemy attack damage is 30.

So you go attack this enemy and the calculator says Victory or whatever and shows you with 10 hp left.

But what really happens is that the enemy hits you for all 30 of your HP and you die and won't even get to lifesteal back, which for some reason the calculator does NOT take into account.

Basically you want to be really careful and see if the enemy's damage > your current HP.

Yeah, I lose mire by mis-calculations than actually failing to win the dungeon.

@Summerwine:

If a monster strikes first, don't trust the yellow ticks and be sure to always have more health than his damage or else you will die before having a chance to steal life. I would say GETINDARE has more use for a vampire than any other classes: it allows extra hits before dying.

Also, the yellow ticks could be wrong if effective damage caps lifesteal (ie: your damage is 50, you have 40 lifesteal but you hit a monster with 50% resist, limiting lifesteal to 25 when the calculator still think you will get 40 life back). By the way the issue has already been reported.

About the ''explore everywhere then start killing', that's pretty much what I'm still doing. It only hinders your mana regen, which is already tricky. But living with only 11 mana per level is manageable, most of the time. I leave a few unexplored tiles in case I have IMAWAL and use WEYTWUT instead of GETINDARE, but that's pretty much it.

I can see an increase in required conversion points in futur builds but if it goes above 50, it would be nice if the Vampire's Sanguine percentage was working for both health & mana.

Ahh, I didn't know life steal worked that way, but suddenly things make a lot more sense now. I was having wierd interactions with living armor, mostly.

Managed to breeze through most hard dungeons with it though. Being a 200+ hp juggernaught is fun, but not quite cutting it on the vicious ones. I keep running out of steam in the level 6-8 range.

Edit: 200+ HP Juggernaught failed. 300+ HP Juggernaught worked.

The amount of health you can get with a Vampire is ridiculously high. For fun I tried Havendale Bridge for a double Sensation stone, I also got Alchemist Scroll at level 3, and used JJ for an extra 75 health. I reached 580 health and I think 650+ is doable with extra gold and Pactmaker on top of that (Spirit Pact is pretty good considering you get an extra 10 health every 4 conversions, think about potions, spoons, et al...).

I defeated Demonic Library without Dracul, using JJ only, and no spells besides WEYTWUT (I converted everything). So it's all about maxing life, and a good management of blood pools and low level monsters/tanks for some lifesteal regen (take 2 Blood Hunger early, 3 if you can desecrate freely).

A good way to use exploration as a ressource is if you have, say, meat men. Lifesteal all of them without killing, explore a bit, and come back at fresh meat. It is known that Vampires like to keep their victims alive. :) And try to use blood pools only when it's for killing +2 or above monsters.

Yeah. I just bit prince Kinissh's face off as a vampire. Then for kicks I did the level again as a tinker. Fun antics were had in the prayer room bribing Tiki Tooki with the 600 gold I got transmuting two of the first monster drops, as well as kicking over everything I was done with with with my agnostic's collar.

Tinker in Naga City? How'd that work? Anyone have a Namtar Vampire win? I know it's doable, but I dunno if anyone's tried it.

Got a Namtar win with a JJ vampire (no Dracul spawn and the others were GG, Mystera & Earthmother =_=). But I got lucky with money (early Midas Glove) and XP (IMAWAL, Amulet of Yendor, Chaos Avatar). Took +75 health, converted everything besides GETINDARE and most potions, and started Namtar at level 10 with 430 max health. In subdungeons, 2-3 health potions were enough to get him down (had still 5 from keg + apothecary).

So with Dracul that should be a no brainer.

Yeah, I just went back and destroyed him. Not even close. No whupaz used, although it would have helped on the 1st or 2nd form. I wasn't so lucky experience-wise. I started Namtar 1 at level 6, and Namtar 2 at 8. I had crazy life steal (6 to be precise) so form 3 barely hurt me. The next forms could not deal damage.

There goes vicious HoS...

Killed Indomitable at level 6, using all my bloodpools, fought a level 3 illusion (Incurring 1 weakening) to each level 7. Then I proceeded to kill BlahBlah using potions. No bloodswells were needed, I had 45% sanguine, and 5 life steal.
