What does the alchemists scroll do?

If I prepare the smugglers den, should I search it right away?

Aside from the berserker and the assassin, what is a good class to attempt to beat the dragon isles with?

Alchemist's scroll adds 10 to your max hp when you drink a potion, once per level.

Halfling priest is a good choice for almost any level, particularly if you can manage to get both a tri-sword and the aforementioned scroll.

I find dragon isles to be harder than VHoS or Naga City. There are a lot of people around here who are a lot better at this game than I am, though

Certainly not! You want to keep it as a reserve for later when you need to explore more tiles. Use it on scenarios or with classes that really need that extra exploration space. It's really not worthwhile as a prep if you explore it immediately.

For Dragon Isles, I find Gnomish Warlord of Jehora Jeheyu is a great pick. An Orc Rogue who uses boost health, absolution, and/or the alchemist's scroll to increase his hit points should also excel here. Elf Wizard with some way to beat down the Matron's resistances would also work just fine.

Or orcish warlord with Mystic Balance. That can win every vicious scenario.

True, but I suspect that will be gone by Friday of this week.

Thanks for your answers, I will take your advice to heart.
My only concern about not exploring the smugglers den right away is that you'll be robber of some health and attack boosters for most of the dungeon.

Is their some buff from having the trisword? Or is it purely just + 9 base attack?

That is the downside of the Smuggler's Den. If you're playing a human melee specialist or an elf caster specialist you normally don't need to worry about these boosters (since your racial bonus picks up the slack for what you don't find), but this is a pretty big sacrifice for everyone else. It's really not worth prepping at all if you're just going to explore it immediately.

I totally just beat it! Hell yes!

With a Gnome Warlord using mystic balance of course but STILL! HAHAHA

That Dragon shield will help my beserker beat the dungeon for sure!

The trisword grants a +2 base attack bonus for every potion you drink while holding it. I'm not sure how you got a +9 on it, unless the last patch changed it again.

The trisword can get nuts with halflings and gnomes. If you rummage through the playthrough thread, you can see my halfling priest running around with a +24 trisword.
