I'm not really going to go into why I disagree with Lujo, and just state that I do. I feel we're trying to get different things out of this game.

And I'd like to point out that the devs have promised us that they'll add some way to affect difficulty, so there should be a way to make the game remain hard for us veterans, while still being accessible for beginners.

That's true, I forgot about that... A good way to make that would make easy mode "downgrade" the difficulty of monsters by 1 rank, normal keeps it the same, and hard the "upgrades" the difficulty by 1. What that means in easy mode, monsters and bosses in hard dungeons have stats as if it was a normal dungeon, in normal mode it stays the same, and in hard mode, monsters and bosses in hard dungeons would have stats as if it was a normal dungeon. Of course they'd have to make two more stat modifiers for if you play easy mode on an easy dungeon, or hard mode on a Vicious dungeon.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

I think the devs have stated that Vicious dungeons are places SPECIFICALLY to find broken and imbalanced class combinations.

The fact that Lujo feels cheated by having certain, necessary, ultra-specialised prep and race combinations is unavoidable; when players do eventually stumble on these combinations, it can and will break the rest of the game for them.

Discovering that things like a tri-weilding halfing priest or an amped up assassin is neccessary to compete with most vicious dungeons, unless you are REALLY good, means you will be able to blast through anything else less challenging with ease.

Lujo's issues are valid, but we have to remember that as beta testers we are supposed to break the game and ruin the fun for ourselves, so the fun ist ruined for the people who buy it on release.

And that is why they'll be nerfed before release... Right?

Having to use preperations to (reliably) win vicious would propably feel better if preps were less straight advantages and more complexity (or challenge) adding elements like the altar preps. What for example if the final bankupgrade spawned a lvl5 miniboss without XP that dropped gold instead of flat out giving more gold to you than there normally is in the rest of the dungeon?

Dungeonchallenge could be a lot thighter if the expected "powerlevel" of a player didn´t vary so much between optimal preperation and purist.

Purist and normal aren't that different except for specific strats, which isn't what you like, because you said you like to play by your wits. I have a purist win on every vicious, and it wasn't even that hard...

I'm curious to know what your strategies were. My harder purist wins are usually paladin + GG.

There has been a curious development in the "Silent update" thread that devolved at some point into a "games boring lets do self imposed challenges" stuff.

Dislecias response to Avatars one shotting stheno at lvl 3 and then killing the tower of goo (with added self imposed limitations?) is priceless.

And illustrates the point.

How can you feel acomplishment about beating a, well, hard, dungeon like the one with stheno if later you discover that it can be beaten with your hand and foot tied togather (self imposed limitations)?

(the curious part of the development is getting a sort of clear response from a dev about wether something was ment to be doable or not, before anyone asks)
