Please release the monster classes. They want to be free...

Dear Devs,

I am desperately trying to finish a vicious dungeons, ANY vicious dungeon, even once, with any class or strat.

Unfortunately I came to the party after some of the biggest exploits existed, and before general changes (like the exp curve) made the already insane difficulty insaner.

I've read everyone's suggestions and advice but I always seem to come up short. My conclusion is that currently, Vicious dungeons should be more accruately labeled Impossible.

So please give me another way of trying out the monster classes, I might be able to give valuable feedback.

At the very least, give me a chance!

Edit: Guys I think you might have missed my point. It's not that vicious is impossible, just impossible for ME with my limited patience for silly strats that require perfect play.

I LIKE playing regular dungeons and screwing around all the time, so I was hoping for a way to play monster classes without exploit shenanigans.

This is the second post I've read today about vicious dungeons being near impossible. I decided to try a couple of runs with the easy classes for the specific dungeons.

2 wins out of two attempts, woot. Human, berserker, tri-sword, found keg-o-health, TT + pactmaker on Dragon Isles and Halfling, priest, alchemist scroll, TT into JJ, found tri-s in VHoS. So they are still doable.

There are some very powerful strategies still in the game that come up just short of broken. Poison (TT or Apheelsik), alchemist scroll, tri-sword and resists are all good. Gods play a BIG part in a successful vicious run, generally if you are only using a single god you are letting yourself down.

Casters used to be amazing but... just... so many nerfs... so many. Only 2 schadenfruede potions was like a kick to the crotch for casters.

My first vicious win was a berserker on dragon isles. Once you get that you'll have the Dragon Shield which is *nice*.

@Discleksia: You responded while I was typing my response. Yeah they are still doable BUT for the last 3-4 releases there have ONLY been nerfs. Across the board nerfs. Vicious dungeons were hard even before that, so imagine now.

@edit2: Oh yeah, matron. Whoever decided to put resist reduction on matron was a huge bastard. She does 112 damage, so 2 item health boosts or a god health boost is basically mandatory now. I had to use that bloody sigil while fighting an end game boss ;_;

A thought on why TT-poison is balanced: You really need to work very hard for it to be useful. If TT punishes you, you are boned.

another edit: this is turning into a wall of text and it's really undercutting my point but I'm 3 for 3 now. Another VHoS win with an orc, berskerker, dragon shield, found tri-s, EM -> TT -> EM

Vets can consistently win Vicious. I have 100% on demonic Library and Naga City, and everyone else could if it weren't for the new Vampire.

Nobody cares about Demonic Library, bad reward.

Naga City is pretty OK if you know what you are doing but it's a gigantic step up from the "Hard Dungeons". You have to eek every inch of resource out of the top level and then you have to juggle gods down below, all the while knowing that a screw up or two will completely kill your run.

Ouch, that hurt my feelings. I personally like DL because it is the smallest step up from Hard, and you get to buy out all the shops, and catapult of level 10 bosses.

Ya, I know you like it. When I was searching for forum information on it my google search had to be 'demonic library -"location: demonic"' because your location was throwing up false results.

I've always found it pretty hard, usually there is just one of the sub-bosses which I can't quite kill.

Vicious dungeons require a shift in thinking. You have to stop playing by the rules, and instead start exploiting the rules. As I wrote in the other thread, the vicious dungeons are the playgrounds of truly broken and overpowering characters. Some dungeons of that description do need to exist, and I feel the problem is more that a key item (the dragonshield) and three classes are sitting behind these dungeons as rewards.

Demonic Library is definitely the easiest vicious level, especially if you play a Warlord. One of the only vicious levels you can consistently win with a good strategy.

Also, can we get the Avatar's Symbol changed from resists to something else? The active-use effect isn't very useful for brawler-type characters, and the passive resists aren't very useful for striker-type characters, and the item isn't a very good pick for hybrids, so it's kinda got a bit of dissonance going.

I agree, it needs another rework.
