Just to clarify, the wiki upgrade hasn't really deterred the spammers at all. We've been hit by two major spam-storms in the past few weeks. If anything, they're spamming harder than ever.

Just a suggestion: perhaps the wiki should have a glossary of terms related to DD that are used on these forums. While we might all know what "scumming" or "popcorn" refers to, newer players may not.

It's probably down to the version upgrade showing up on a list of mediawiki activity somewhere.

Hopefully it should be easier to deal with spam now though? That's what the upgrades were for, mostly.

I haven't noticed any new tools available. In any case, the spammers usually create new accounts rather than reusing one account, preventing any mass deletes. Take a look at the block log to see what I mean.

Which tells me that we should make new registration harder instead of tools that filter content sent.

Darvin, are you banning also the IP ranges?

Making registration harder is probably the best solution. Exactly how that's best done is another matter worth discussion.

And yes:
Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from

This option is always checked off when I block. Doesn't seem to slow them down, though...

When I get a chance I'll take a look at plugins that add verification or captchas or whatever...
