Maybe I'm missing something, but after killing the 3 Meat Men, it tells me I'm supposed to be "refreshed"... I'm assuming this means that I'm supposed to have levelled up, ready to take on the boss. Problem is that it DOESN'T level me as I only have 3 exp by that point instead of the 5 I need. Even with the health potion I pick up, I have no chance against the boss.

It could possibly be because you're a Human Guard, thus not getting anything for anything. The puzzle would work if it had a Fighter with the second Meat Man removed or so such...

Yeah. The puzzles aren't what we're focusing on right now, so as we get closer to what we want the into to the game to be (hence the Guard appearing) quite a few of the puzzles will break.

Ah okay.
