i dont know what you are doing but im lacking gold.
permanently grinding for gold. im averaging one grind for 2 missions, and the grind is too repetative and annoying. there needs to be a better way.

if someone knows a good way to make enough money (i restarted with the last patch) that isnt annoying tell me too.
right now im using tinker in starting areas so that it doesnt takes ages. preparation only a shield that can be sold.
before tinker it was even more farming.

Focus your initial exploration in the south. Unlock Tikki Tooki, the Assassin, and the Goblin. A goblin assassin can defeat almost all hard-difficulty levels as purist without breaking a sweat, and with Tikki Tooki as your deity it's not uncommon to walk out with over 100 gold in your wallet. By the time you actually need to spend money on preparations, you should be swimming in it.

Preparations progression right now has the same sort of problem that skill trees in many RPGs have - a requirement to have prior knowledge of the game already to make optimal decisions.

If you know which upgrades to gun for immediately, you pretty much have no problems even with a fresh start. On the other hand, there's upgrades like "Bet on the Boss" which has absolutely no use before fires start showing up, but a newbie probably wouldn't know that. They would grind the 1k+ gold to get the level 3 thief guild for said upgrade and then realize it's a terrible gold investment and grumble as they grind 1k+ gold more for an actual useful upgrade.

Also, gold rewards in quests are... paradoxical, in a sense. If a newbie tries 6 times with preparations and only succeeds on the 6th try on a quest, he's usually better off just grinding Venture Cave naked because that's probably more consistent for earning money for them. Experts can use them for big boosts, newbies just bleed trying to win them.

Completely removing gold from challenges has caused problems as well.

I mean, you can't even take the gold you bring in back out with you!

I agree, just remove gold from medals and class completion.

Also, the starting gold cap of 300 is dehabilitating early on. Make it 400, so you can afford 2 upgrades.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

Yeah. Now I don't want to do all the challenges because everything is a gold-sink.

And I got robbed due to the new gold limit....oh well, at least I only lost a few thousand coins. Big mistake I bought the bank upgrade though. Now I must grind another 9999 for that locker upgrade.....

Yeah, I'm broke thanks to the new limit. NOT HAPPY.

Also, increasing your limit seems a bit redundant, as you'll never really need more than 10,000 or 20,000 tops. What if you add a +1 gold in runs when you extend the cap? Then cap your max extension at 100,000 space, 35 gold in runs, and +2 lockers.
