Random Questions Thread

Postby The Avatar on Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:06 am

Olay, this thread is for all questions and topics that don't merit their own thread, yet don't really belong anywhere.

I'll start: I'm actually fairly cuirious on how many legitimate wins people have in Vicious dungeons. Can someone post what classes they've beaten which Vicious dungeons with?

Of course you may all post your own answers or questions, and I only ask you don't focus too much on any one question or topic.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

The thing is that, barring really hardcore players, many people beat vicious dungeons only during a specific feature change period, or with glitches and bugs. With the kind of changes and balances we go through, it's very hard to make a meaningful list.

OK here's my question: What's the bane of your successful runs/What's the one stupid mistake that you always seem to make? I have, for 3-4 times, died by making quick repeated fireballs to Counter Fireball monsters, all in very successful runs (once was in VHoS after finishing the The Indomitable at lvl 7).

I get too lazy to use spells every time I have the mana. Even if I'm MA. Also, I convert things too early as Goblin, forget to leverage level-ups for a catapult and am lazy about working out whether I can kill something that looks about right (this is why I don't like Monks) by regen-fighting before I go for it.

As for viciouses

VHOS - Priest, Assassin, Berserker (cheeky, ding max, unstoppable badges)

Dragon Isles - Priest, Rogue, Berserker (cheeky, ding max, unstoppable, specialist)

Naga City - Monk, Thief, Half-Dragon ( :-) ) (cheeky, ding max, unstoppable, specialist)

So, literally just enough to unlock the monster classes. I really enjoy Naga City, quite like Dragon Isles and VHOS though.

Not tried Vicious GT, Demonic Library or Namtar yet.

I constantly forget things. I think the worst feeling ever is when I realize I could have won, but forgot about desecration or something else obvious.

Looks like we all forget things every now and then. I really wish there could be some kind of "player's aid" configurable confirmation settings in the game. e.g. I can set the game to pop up a confirmation window every time I fireball a counter fireball monster / drinking a potion while worshipping GG / or just simply "misclick and die" situation, especially since now most of the time you can climb the ladder back and recuperate your loss instead of actually dying or surrender.

Probably not gonna happen though. The devs really enjoy seeing players die by carelessness...

I had a moment like that just a second ago. I was regen fighting Namtar form 1 with a Viper Ward and TT. I had a HUGE amount of popcorn, but I forgot I had one piety. I hit Namtar twice and game over. TT wasn't happy, and that means you're screwed.

Someone please rank the desecrations, I want to know which ones people think are the worst.

Glowing Guardian is the worst unless they changed it recently.

JJ is another "worst" on a coin flip and the best on the other coin flip.

TT's pretty bad unless you only need like 1 or 2 more hits left to kill whatever boss to win the dungeon.

Binlor is currently pretty good to kick because splashing resistances is an iffy strategy even with the curse change IMO.

EM's not that harsh either.

1. GG
There are almost no situations where losing your whole inventory, including all your potions, is acceptable. If you need this for anything other than getting *the* last blow it's not very helpful. Also you need to work out how much your damage/whatever will drop... maths is not fun.
2. TT
Shudder. I don't even remember what exactly this does. First strike, some other random status effects, but this just screws up ALL of your planning up to that point. Not nice at all.
3. JJ
OK, 50% chance of instant death is probably worse than TT or GG, but if you're on an early purist run it's fine, and if you're looking at losing anyway but need to do anything more than one or two hits it's usually a better last resort than either of them.
4. Dracul
By contrast, a bit of HP, not a terrible thing, affects most but not all characters. Especially fine if you want to rely on death protections. I'd probably rather desecrate MA or Taurog if possible just because switching into Dracul/using his boons and potions is a big use for desecrations.
5. MA
15% resists is probably a worse effect than HP loss but it's still not tragic. I'd usually rather desecrate MA just because she has no useful boons left at the point in the game where I need them and small resistances are usually less of a deal for boss fights than small HP changes.
6. Taurog
Below Mystera just because there are a few characters this doesn't really affect. I don't do this as often as MA I guess but I think it's less of a universal effect.
7. Binlor
Losing resists is a non-event for a lot of characters. If you have resists already he's unhittable but he is far and away the easiest for an early game desecration for most characters.
8. Earthmother
Eh, if you have a burn cure prepped (maybe with patches), have 8 gold, will hit JJ's big boon, are high enough level/HP that 5 corrosion isn't a big deal, aren't using health as a resource much (assassins, rogues, wizards etc.), are going to be using a few cleansings anyway...
Essentially a lot of times when this can just be 30 piety, especially in the end game when you know you need the piety, for no real loss.

In brief
1-2 GG, TT - I don't desecrate these unless I know I'll win because of it.
3 JJ - I don't desecrate him unless I know I'll lose without it or I find him right at the start of a mostly purist run.
4-6 Dracul, MA, Taurog - wouldn't ever do them mid-game really unless I'm going for a pure caster but they're alright at the end-game
7-8 Binlor, EM - one useful for early game desecrations for most classes, the other useful for mid-late game desecrations for most classes
