Hello all. I've just started playing Desktop Dungeons after messing around with the alpha version a long time ago. I like all the changes to the game, but it seems the difficulty is really... erm... strange...

I've tried the last puzzle mission on the "Taurog's Will" explorer's guild puzzle pack, and I just can't beat it. I've played it maybe 25 times and every time I get stuck around the same point. There are 3 mage-5s that I need to beat, but they just do too much damage. The only items on the map are the GETINDARE glyph and Taurog's 4 items, which get me up to about level 4.5, but then I just don't have the resources to go on.

Anyone know what I'm supposed to do here?

You don't need to kill the mages. All you need to do is get a Death Prptection and Kill Mance.

Maybe puzzles should be a bit more obvious that you only need to kill the "boss" just like normal dungeons to finish them.

I've been getting slightly lazier with design recently, so "red herrings" have popped up here and there. Will probably just try remove those.

Also, the first set of tutorial puzzles covers the "kill the boss" concept somewhat, but we'll try emphasise the messages there a little more.

I could go do it again if you want the exact solution (unless someone beats me to it)

Well, I don't want the exact solution, it just feels like I'm missing some sort of precept that would allow me to arrive at the solution. That's the entire point of the puzzle packs, after all. It just feels to me like this one is too punishing to win, or there's some concept that I didn't pick up on yet.

I've even tried converting the GETINDARE at certain points to reduce piety loss and up my damage. Nope.

Just a hint would be nice.

In the picture you posted all you had to do was convert the gliph, take the Death protection and smack the boss...

Death Protection costs 10, doesn't it? Yeah, you don't need the first strike on the boss, just DP.

Dp costs 20 actually. But converting the gliph gives you 10 so you get 25, wich is 5 more than what you need.
