PQI Party Thread

Naff name... but alliterative.

Anyway, thought it'd be nice to have a thread to complain about horrible PQI runs, revel in creative solutions, chat about some odd prep possibilities or strategy tricks.

Kicking it off:

Quest: halfling rogue parched hexx ruins
Important prep choices: Platemail, GG, Str Boosters, Smugglers, Compression Seal

Second boss was Firstborn, subdungeon was vegan vampire, other gods were Mystera and TT. Well, my strategery plan was to use potion conversions to fuel GG piety for early absolutions and enlightenment, which is the only way (I guess Dracul piety is similar) for a halfling to use their conversion bonus on a parched run. Platemail turned out to be for the class, the strategy and the map. I started off with Weytwut and Mystera near me, so used that to farm my way up to 50 piety while saving popcorn before converting into GG and getting 8 absolutions. Continued playing naturally to get the 100 piety for enlightenment at level 6/7ish with a nearly-fully-explored map. Since TT was around I used health potion and shop item conversions and levelling piety to convert out in the middle of taking on firstborn, having cleared all the revents, took the XP bonus to level, chugged a dodge potion, then hit Stheno on the dodge (with strength potion as well, big for rogues) forgetting I hadn't killed everyone yet. Still, didn't matter in the end, she went down then regened a little in smugglers as well as picking up all the boosters I'd saved to finish off Firstborn.

Net result: victory

Quite happy with using a strategy that actively makes use of the problems in one of the perverse PQI beahoarderbutnotreally quests. Platemail horrendously effective on rogues (since I had weytwut, I managed to use one dodge and tank one hit to take out a level 8 goblin at level 4 or 5. Was delightful. Would prep again (I use rogues a lot, normally with Midas or Trisword, though).

Quest: Goblin Bloodmage Warmonger Doubledoom
Important prep choices: Taurog, Extra glyph, Dragonshield, Patches, Compression Seal, Whoopaz (overkill I know)

Bosses were Firstborn and Medusa, but it took a while to find them. Converting B2P right off didn't make me ding, but did get me Taurog Piety. The general abundance of glyphs meant an abundnce of Taurog Piety, all his gear ment more damage and damage resistances, and I even found a platemail. I drank all the mana potions in advance to boost sanguine, sent a lot of exploration looking for the bosses (identical map layout as Dragon Isles). I used up two death protections on medusa on purpose, to get more damage on every use of Untopable Fury, then spiked Firstborn with Whoopaz, bloodpools and a conversion DING! Firstboorn seems to be fatter than frank these days.

All in all: Win

Was quite happy about being able to use my mana potions on a warmonger run. It's also funny how good a prep "Extra Glyph" makes for a Taurog Warmonger run. Not the most spectacular run, but showcases a specific badge hunting strat I use, so I though, what the hell... I liked the thread idea - small bits of text, lots you can learn...

Quest: Halfling Rogue DING!MAX! on wait for it... Hobblers Hold

I killed everything at the highest possible level, used Jehora to get another level and ended on lvl 9... how are you supposed to get to lvl 10 without any monster being higher than 8, including the boss?^^

Bad luck, or really doable?

Managed that one. Got very lucky though. Shop scroll gave me balanced dagger (though that/yendor could be prepped). Prepped Earthmother for imawal (bonus XP) and slow. Found both TT and pactmaker in the dungeon. Switched to TT and got +xp bonus. With Pactmaker, you've got alchemist's pact (+3XP/-4 piety per potion) but I just about hit 10 without using that.

But yeah, I'd prep Earthmother (petrify plants for XP boost, use a slow right at the start). If you get even a bit lucky in finding another god that helps then it is doable.

Heheh, okay, that's awesome. Probably the only real challenge Hobbler's could throw a player at that stage. I likey.

Quest: Parched gnome priest on Eastern Tundra
Important prep choices: Binlor, Magnet: Defend (was PISSORF)
Subdungeons: Glenrick and the PISSORF Ice Troll
Keyword: Efficency ^^

Essentially I went for a Stone Skin + Stone X (might on wall destruction one, form? i just used it and I still cant remember it's name). I worshiped Binlor first (after using the Slayer Wand and the STR potion), PISSORFFED monsters into walls, then used ENDISWAL in subdungeons mostly, untill I got both the Stone Soup and the Might boon. Then went Drac, converted all the useless health potions and grabbed a hit of sanguine. Got a few levels and sanguine piety, then converted to Mysterea. Got Refresment for all the extra glyphs (2 from BINLOR, 1 from subdungeon). Had to resort to shennanigans to get my piety up to 25 with no potions and no exploration (shennanignas invloved the use of refreshment and munching all the popcorn, go efficency, whoop!). I desecrated Drac to get to 50, joined Binlor again. I had low Binlor piety, and noticed I still had unreachable exploration and LEMISI lying right there. And I've just left Mysterea, eficceny - 110%! I used the remaining glyphs for mana needed to endiswall for both piety and resistant hits on Blah Blah, then went straight into a Stone Skin spike. Testing it was my intention anyway... It leveled Blah Blah with a parched gnome priest who had no fuel except about 45 Binlor piety, a bunch of walls, a scadenfraude and a few useless glyphs (no dmg ones apart from BURNDAYRAZ against a retaliate fireball boss, go me).

Net result: victory

Well, Eastern Thundra isn't all that difficult, but the Stone Skin spike is probably really strong. If I wasn't trying to be clever and go god hopping, I could've done it all in a less convoluted fashion. In retrospect it was a blind idiot run, with an easy boss run over by a piety spike despite "funniest home video" levels of missplay on practicaly every other click. Fun, though. Got Miser on top of it all, and cheeky which I didn't have before ^^.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot, i did prep a pair of dodgestep potions, or I would've needed more piety for the spike. There was a platemail in there too, but it wasn't too significant overall.

If you want to get Ding! Max on Hobbler's Hold without the goblin, prep the Amulet of Yendor and Jehora Jeheyu. Tikki Tooki would also work if you get Tikki's Edge early enough, and a few hits of IMAWAL can also do wonders.
