I tend to gravitate toward Labyrinth too, but that's just because I always prep Binlor there. I really don't like having to wast my exploration and hp on killing level 9's mid-fight with Evolvia.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

Jehora's puzzles don't show up for me, do they need to be unlocked?

You need to have unlocked JJ.

The Labyrinth terrain generator has remained the same since its creation, I think.

The two new points of pressure are (1) clog alg monsters and (2) Rex's modified AI (there's one or two recent overarching game spawn rules that will cause him to spawn in cutoff locations more often).

I have for a while considered lowering Rex's damage. Players are indeed intended to be quite savvy at using Rex as a poor man's ENDISWAL, but it has been a while since I've played Labyrinth earnestly.

Lowering Rex's damage is a dangerous move. His hp is already so low that a spell caster can take him at level 7. He'll need more hp if he has less damage.

Rexx is a glass cannon boss. I agree with Avatar, tread carefully or you could make him a bit of a joke.

Really, I don't think that Rex is the biggest problem. He just mercy kills a player that was already stuck in an unwinnable situation. The issue is having 300+ tile long corridors that force you to fight multiple monsters with no chance of recovery in between. If those snakes connected back to the central area more frequently, it would be a lot more manageable.

I agree, but still, you could easily remove Rex at level 5 or 6 if you weaken him further.
