No patch today?

Postby Lujo on Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:26 pm

Did it just so happen we didn't pester the devs enough or early enough to implement and tweak stuff this week and pester the artist to make a purdy pikčr of it?

Or in other words, is a patch incoming at all? Did I mistake Thursday for Friday?

We're still working this week, but we're currently at a games festival in Johannesburg and aren't taking things full-time right now. What's likely is that we may skip out on release this week and have a slightly beefier update next Friday.

Oh, thats good then. Beefier update you say, like with grilled meat men? Mmmmmm....

Oh, and not to let this thread go to waste, how about we put a consise whishlist here with all the "just this one thing before release stuff that's been cropping up all over the place recently.

Lets see:

1) Wargasm and some guys think Sorc needs a buff, Abraxas and some other guys think no, I think I'd love to hear any of the devs thoughts on Sorcerer.

2) Avatar brought a dirty little exploit into the miy involving Sorc and B2P, Abraxas seems to think it's not all that exploity. Needs looking into I guess.

3) The wizards issue is all over the place. We all agree he is not very good atm, yet I think all he lacks is prpoer focus.

Anyone got anything else? Anyone try the rogue?

I don't think there's a big problem with a slight buff, but I wouldn't go crazy with him (as the comments in that thread indicate, the wizard is a much needier candidate). I like the idea of making his healing scale by level so it's weaker at low levels but stronger at high levels. Making mana shield unresistable damage rather than magic damage also sounded like a good change, which would also fix the sorcerer's problems with nabbing the specialist badge.

2) Avatar brought a dirty little exploit into the miy involving Sorc and B2P, Abraxas seems to think it's not all that exploity. Needs looking into I guess.

It requires a lot of luck to pull off, but it's definitely a bit too abusive if it does happen. Making the healing scale by level would solve the problem. Otherwise, this will require some artificial tweaking since I don't think a standalone nerf to either the class or glyph is justified.

3) The wizards issue is all over the place. We all agree he is not very good atm, yet I think all he lacks is prpoer focus.

Basically, the problem is a dissonance between the meta-game realities of a spellcaster and the class concept of the wizard. Spellcaster specialists in this game are essentially damage-spikers, and as a result they want abilities that can fuel a prolonged damage spike. The wizard, on the other hand, seems entirely built around efficiency. He can find glyphs without exploring as much, he doesn't need to devote much inventory space to hoard them, and in the long-run a -1 glyph cost saves a lot of exploration space. However, resource efficiency is more the domain of a high-resistance high-damage brawler such as the Paladin. The wizard's BURNDAYRAZ/PISRORF spam approach just doesn't make use of the auxiliary glyphs he can easily cart around or the improved regen-game offered by his lower mana costs. Pretty much the only things going for him are the nice sweet spots at 15/20 mana and good value out of BLUDTUPOWA. Otherwise the more convenient/frequent level-up catapults offered by Assassins and Fighters are a more significant asset to spellcasters.

Decent writeups, but do you have any issues that were brought up recently? To get a bunch of it in one spot?

EDIT: and I could argue some of that, but there is a thread for that. :)

Aside from the stuff I've already made threads about recently?

1) Thief could use a small buff.

2) CYDSTEPP needs buffing without changing how it works for the Warlord. Possible solution: instead of requiring full health to activate, make it require a minimum of 5 HP per level. For non-rogue characters with all health boosters, this conveniently means drinking a health potion takes your HP just high enough to activate CYDSTEPP, but at the same time is high enough to prevent it from being repeatable without some form of active healing.

3) Balanced Dagger needs something. In its current form it really is only helpful if you find it at level 1, which is just so rare it's not worth having in your shop pool. At very least lower its cost and raise its CP.

EDIT: and I could argue some of that, but there is a thread for that. :)

Then post your retort in that thread and let's discuss it.

Oh, and Tower needs to be made winnable. Having the Hard boss instead of the Vicious one would be nice too, but I'd settle for winnable first.

(And there's several requests to make both the Hard and Vicious towers available after Hard is done.)

Well, bug fixes should go without saying

Seconded; I'd love to replay HGT

I woke up this morning to find out that I apparently derped all over the file versioning system this week, so the patch arrived more slowly. But it came anyway.

We'll probably make Hard GT available after play, doesn't seem to be a poor idea. I've figured out why it's having quest completion problems right now too, the issue actually emerged last week but got hidden by the fact that nobody could get past the Vicious Horatio that had been shoved in there. So when we change the code to allow HGT replayability, I'll fix that too. (It's not listed, but there were some lore edits and Hard Horatio also now has a juicy speech that wasn't there before).

I noticed the new speech. Much more satisfying than the old "go to hell" speech.

I'd also like to make a suggestion for Horatio: change him to a multistage "revives" boss that cycles through a variety of different abilities. This is a little more appropriate for the final boss, and for the vicious mode it would get rid of the "need to have BYSSEPS" problem since not all his forms will have resistances.
