Dungeon of the Day - 2

Postby The Avatar on Fri Dec 07, 2012 9:08 pm

This is now our second installment of the Dungeon of the Day Scoring Challenge. If it's successful, this might become a regular "play-by-forum" activity around here. Any players are welcome to participate, regardless of whether you're a veteran or beginner. Even if you're new to Desktop Dungeons and can only manage one or two medals, feel free to post your experiences here. The rules are as follows:

At 4:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (9:30 PM GMT) I will roll a 12-sided die in order to select a dungeon at random from the following list of directional dungeons:

Rock Garden (1), Creeplight Ruins (2), Hexx Ruins (3), Havensdale Bridge (4), Grimm's Grotto* (5), Berserker Camp (6), Slime Pit (7), Magma Mines (8), Shifting Passages (9), Hard Halls of Steel (10), Ick Swamp (11), or Labyrinth (12)

* Switched in for Cursed Oasis

Next, to mix things up, there will be a class restriction this time. To keep things more open to newer players (who might not have all classes) it will be based on building. I will roll a four-sided die:

Guild (1), Thieves Den (2), Church (3), or Mage Tower (4)

I will immediately post my rolls, which will open the competition. Any DD player can then submit a screenshot showing a successful run. The only rule is you must win the dungeon run. Points are awarded based on which medals you win, based on the scoring below:

Warmonger and Hoarder = 5 points each
Purist = 4 points
Faithless, Unstoppable, Parched and Miser = 3 points each
Ding! Max = 2 points
Specialist and Cheeky = 1 point each

Tie scores will be resolved by how long it took you to beat the dungeon, with the faster time winning. Be warned, don't try to overachieve too much, because you may not win.

This contest ends at 4:30 PM EST (or 9:30 PM GMT) on Monday, giving you three days.

We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

Nandrew suggested giving a little more time, so maybe let it run one more day till Monday? I'd also recommend taking Cursed Oasis out of rotation (replace the "5" roll slot with a central dungeon like Grimm's Grotto or Doubledoom) since it was used last time.

Otherwise looks good.

Okay, you must beat Berserker Camp with a Church class. Good luck!

Heheheh... hate to do this to you guys again:

That's 22 points. The same eight badges as last time. Paladin of Jehora Jeheyu, Chaos Avatar to level 10.

Boons used were petition, boost health, boost mana x2, and chaos avatar (desecrated Dracul; third altar was Taurog). Glyphs used were HALPMEH (duh), BURNDAYRAZ, CYDSTEPP, and PISORF. WONAFYT and two WEYTWUT glyphs were left on the ground. Actually a very straightforward run; definitely much easier than the last challenge, and I fully expect to be surpassed this time.

Nice job on the low-level kills, though.

This time somewhat better:
Cheeky, Speacialist, Warmonger, Miser => 10 points

Was lucky with the second boss (zombie) and thanks to the dog, the berserker-boss was also turned to an undead :)

Tried to go for -Warmonger -Miser

After a great start, I ended up choking on a level 9 Ice Troll, a monster you really don't want to see as a Monk. Failed to kill him by one tile. If I had let that go, I could have at least salvaged DING!

I could have totally pulled it off if I had switched -Miser for -Faithless, but I wanted to do something different.

Woooo! Added faithless to my medal list

That gives me 25 points. Glyphs used were HALPMEH, GETINDARE, PISORF, BURNDAYRAZ, and APHEELSIK. Subdungeon was zombie money, which I was scumming for (needed it for the XP to reach level 10), and secret dungeon was the armory (which I couldn't use other than the perseverance badge since I had already filled my inventory with useful glyphs).
