The thing is, lots of dungeons already offer a mid level monster for free, in addition to exploration space, gold, and a minor item. The cases where being able to have multiple monsters at a cost is better than being able to have one monster plus free gold and plus treasure and plus exploration are so fringe that I don't recall a single case where I was happy to find Smacklefunky's.

I wonder if the GP cost got reduced to 1 GP how that might change things. Normally equal-level monsters are nasty, but with a nearly unlimited stream of them to smackdown it might not be too bad at all.

Thread necroing, whooooow!
Just wanted to share a funny little exploit -
Tinker with Faboulous Treasure and found both IMAWAL and ENDISWAL. I also bought a balanced dagger and midas gloves.
Since I had tons of gold and IMAWAL and midas reduced the goldcosts to 2, I could afford to level without touching any dungeon monsters at all.
The best thing still comes - Agnostics Collar, a bunch of altars and Dracul among them. The shopmonsters drop Bloodpooles.
Did I mention that I *still* had 100 gold?

Granted, that was a rather lucky constellation - but still, having a dungeon's worth of Popcorn when starting to fight the bosses and subsequently getting 3 hits of both Bloodtithe AND Bloodhunger - not to mention Bloodshield and a few bloodswells - was rather fun.
