Originally, Animated Armors did not lose damage as their death protections were depleted. They were widely regarded as the toughest enemies in the game and only kill-able with spellcasting. They were particularly nasty in the earliest versions, where burning detonation didn't yet exist.

think i will never play the alpha. hated AA all the time. only nice thing about the low lvl AA is to popup burning.
@Jay: really liked your idea to remove the DP from a AA before exploring. this idea never came to me. always tried them in one go

Part 24: You're going into a 2nd tier hard dungeon? Good for you. Ironically, I think halls of steel is one of the easier hard dungeons (despite being second tier). The orb of lusory makes the indomitable a joke (and he is already SUPER easy), and all you have to do is kill another boss. The quest put fortitude tonics in shops. Betting on the boss is a good decision. Backpack is a bit unexplained. It is the items from your last run that you didn't locker. ALWAYS MAGNET: FIREBALL! Great choice! Finding potions are kind of irrelevant unless you don't find all of them before the boss. Removing monsters DPs is usually good. It makes them harvestable for popcorn, but you can't use them for burning pop off. AVOID ILLUSIONS! They suck immensely. They are one of the most annoying monster in the game. MA is not especially good for priests, but she's good for everyone. There are better things you could get. Attacking that level 3 meat man is futile. Burn him after all hits. If regen fighting didn't work before 2 fireballs, it won't change. You are forgetting the extra 100% vs undead. Don't forget burning pop off. It is incredibly useful for removing DPs. He shouldn't be dead. You should have checked the panel. SERIOUSLY! WHY WON'T YOU CHECK IT? They have 1 DP PER LEVEL! The only level 4s your priest will be fighting are undead guys. And now you see. Animated Armors are the most resource intensive monsters in the game. You should NOT use them to level, unless you have no better options (mana burners are worse, unless you level off them). FLAMES IS BAD. Unless you only cast spells, or are out of everything but spells vs the boss, DO NOT GET IT. Told you, 2 level higher undead are good for the priest, but without extra help that's it. One warning: the halls of steel are filled with magic users, so you won't get much MA piety, especially since mana burning hurts too. AA's are a pain. AVOID THEM. You picked up PISORF, then neither used nor converted it. If you aren't going to use it, don't pick it up. You can always convert off the floor later for refreshment. It's pronounced piety, not pea-ety. You tend to over explore, taking out a clump of 5 or so tiles when 1 or 2 are necessary. BUY THAT STONE. The indomitable is incredibly easy in hard mode, surprising as that may seem. The 50% resist you get from the orb of lusory makes him a regen fightable joke. Mystic balance isn't that good. Refreshment is the better boon by far. If you don't have many targets, it's fine to whittle a higher level guy. GAH! NOT AGAIN! You keep stopping yourself from getting the philosopher's stone. Fortunately, the second boss should make it possible. You could not be more wrong. The indomitable is weak. He may seem scary, but he gets weaker, does menial damage, has low health, and has been nerfed into the ground. He had 50 DP (without decreasing damage), then 20 DP (with decreasing damage), and now 10. Seriously, he should at least be 15. The trick is saving tiles to regen fight him, because that will make him a joke. WHY MUST YOU FIGHT THE AA'S? THEY ARE A HUUUGE WASTE OF RESOURCES! Seriously, never target them. YOU LUCKY MAN! Medusa is the easiest boss ever. If you had scored SMM you would me in so much more trouble. You need to learn how to utilize burning pop off. Burn them to 1 hp (and remove a DP with the burn), hit a monster, dealing 1 damage and removing another layer. It is SO POWERFUL! To put the indomitable in perspective, a level 6 AA has as much damage as him. That's karma for using mystic balance. It makes GETINDARE suck. I told you refreshment is the boon to use. Yeesh, what a waste of resources. That hurt you. CYDSTEPP is pretty lame for non-warlords. It is much more 1 use and then conversion. Actually, Warlords suck at this dungeon. Countering DP with regen fighting is the right choice. I TOLD YOU NOT TO FIGHT THE AA'S. You should be looking for 2 level higher undead, not 1 level higher wizards. What a mistake. You have a wraith on the screen. Heck, with CYDSTEPP you could be killing that 3 level higher wraith. Ugh. You need the orb of lusory. You should be level 8 to fight the indomitable (although for vicious you often need to start earlier). The orb of lusory is so good. WHY MUST YOU SELECT AA'S AS TARGETS? THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD TARGETS, BUT AA'S ARE VERY VERY BAD! You could kill a bunch of higher level undead! You could kill them so easily. Finally you see. By accident. You should constantly be seeking undead. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING! YOU HAD 3 EASILY KILLED HIGHER LEVEL UNDEAD, BUT YOU CHOSE THE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT AA?! WHY? Oh no. You better not chose flames. You figured out burning pop off. Lucky discovery! Wait. You found it and aren't using it? Why not? You keep complaining about how hard it is when you could have reached level 7 or 8 EASILY by now by FIGHTING THE UNDEAD MONSTERS! YOU'RE A PRIEST! Oh my gosh. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You could have killed him by burning first. You're on the downward spiral right now! You are killing yourself! You didn't think! THINK MORE! You aren't thinking anything through. YOU AREN'T AT FULL HEALTH! YOU AREN'T A WARLORD! You should have taken out the indomitable first. He is much easier. You are 1 exp from leveling, and you use 5 potions in a row. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! You totally blew the indomitable's difficulty out of proportion. He's a joke! He can be beaten with 10 or so spare tiles at level 8! I told you the indomitable is a joke. He really needs 15 DP or more damage. That was a painfully bad run. Sure you one, but that is more proof this dungeon is too easy. Sorry, but that was not a run to be proud of.

KEY POINTS: THINK AND FOCUS! You need to do this much much more. Utilize burning pop off. Select easy targets (SUCH AS THE UNDEAD AS A PRIEST). NEVER SELECT AN ANIMATED ARMOR AS A TARGET UNLESS YOU REALLY REALLY HAVE TO!

I'll have to do more later. Good job winning.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

With regards to Death Protections, GJ putting figuring out the effects of burning. Note for the next time you know you're going up against monsters with lots of DPs that knocking them back into walls also knocks off death protections. It makes the Bear Mace a crazy good preparation for some dungeons because with certain class and item combos you can knock off 3+ DPs per melee attack.

Sorcerer with bear mace and whurrgarbl

Knock off 1 DP from your attack, then 1 DP from your "mana shield" discharge, then 1 DP from knockback damage, then attack something else to knock off a DP from burning discharge. Four layers of DP per attack; it's not nearly as practical as it sounds, but damn is it cool when you pull it off ^_^

In part 25 you could have IMAWALed the lv 9 illusion because you were not going to fight it anyway. I don't know if you could have beat that lv 4 one in 2 hits but it would have been a better use of IMAWAL and gotten rid of that curse. Also you could have used up your orb of illusion to free up those hallways and opened up those hallways for further exploration.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! My power died before I could post 25 or 26. Ugh...

Here's what I remember:

Part 25: This was not at all a good run. You wasted far too many tiles, and you totally forgot about Dracul punishing you. The biggest waste (surprisingly) was your IMAWAL usage. The 5 tiles you used to cast IMAWAL were all you had before you got blocked off. So you used it more (which is the WRONG decision), and you destroyed all of your popcorn. You have to balance IMAWAL usage, or you'll screw yourself, like you did in this run. The other big time waste was your regen fighting tactics. Here are two rules you must adhere to the letter: 1. If are at max health, attack the monster. Period. 2. Hold yourself to 1 BURNDAYRAZ per attack so you can afford the BURNDAYRAZ on the next attack (unless you have lots of excess mana). Of course, the way you can win 90% of the time with monks is by prepping Taurog. Do it. It is by far the best strategy.

Part 26: Well done! The main 2 notes were ALWAYS to check up on monster abilities, and that a mid-fight level up kill that is only 3 levels higher after the level up is not good enough to be worth it usually.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.
