BURNDAYRAZ

Postby Kingdom of One on Wed Jun 19, 2013 9:24 am

My girlfriend pointed out to me the other day that my pronunciation is not the intended one.

I was saying `burn-day-rays'. As in, burn them with the power of the sun!

You've got to love the glyph names. That was always one of my favorite bits of flavor.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

This one has always been the most difficult to figure out. I had to look it up on the wiki to get it. All the other descriptions were self-evident.

Really?

I've guided myself with the PISSORF rule - the more profane interpretaion the more accurate. Maybe it's more obvious to non native speakers. If you pronounce it out loud in a hammy voice (such as when bombasticaly calling out a spell you're casting), and stress every syllable it's pretty obvous. BURNTHEIRASS! BURN/DAYR/AZ!

The problem for me was where I put the stress: BURN - DAY - RAZ
When the stress should have been: BURN - DAYR - AZ

Yeah, it didn't occur to me to try anything except variations on Burn - day - raz.
Day Rays seemed to fit so I went with that.

Probably would be a bit easier to figure out, but at this point I wouldn't change anything. It's not like you need to get the joke to enjoy the game.

I think I would have interpreted BURNDEYRAZ as intended.

I also don't think it's particularly important. I mean, most of the time I think: oh yay, finally the fireball glyph shows up.

It's just amusing to me that, while other people were internally screaming BURN DERE ASS in a super deep voice as they flung fire at their enemies, I was lightly sprinkling them with sun beams.
