New Officially Unofficial This Game is Awesome Thread

When I first started playing this game I knew it was fun, but only after many, many more hours of play did I start to realize how truly awesome it is. Every new dungeon isn't just a new layout, but a whole new set of conditions and clever tricks to mess with the player.
Every class (and there are many) has it's own place within the game, and indeed its own unique style.
I have spent well over 30 hours with the game (and probably much more than that) and have never even begun to feel like each run wasn't its own unique and exciting experience. Furthermore I'm pretty sure my total "completion" of the game is still well under 10%, maybe even under 5% depending on how you count it.
Even when doing a "Normal" run on a map I know there is still challenge and excitement to be had as I attempt to earn new badges.

I have just started cutting my teeth on the hard dungeons, and find that they all seem to have a unique flavor, or even sometimes a "trick" that one must overcome. These often completely alter the strategy needed to approach them, so even as one becomes better and better and the base gameplay unique challenges are around every corner.

I just want to take a second to applaud the developers for taking the time to make such a fantastic game, and not only that but to also take the time to work all the bugs and kinks out of the game and to polish it up and make it the best it can be before release. Many game companies have been "cashing in" on steam with incomplete/buggy games and I'm glad QCF isn't taking that route.

Yup, Desktop Dungeons is awesome, and you haven't even reached the end-game content yet.

Just wait till you get the vicious token

After Namtar's Lair I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near ready for ANY vicious dungeons :)

Now you know why you've been told that videotaping the entire experience of DD might take you a short lifetime. It's a huge, huge game.

One of the best things about it is that the player experience wasn't compromised by the trappings big games force upon their players (3d for example). It's charming, symbolic, visibly accessible, yet complex and huge.

Also, you did have a lot of help from avatar and everyone else, I'm a bit worried that learning the ropes might still be a bit too tough (or overwhelming).

Thanks for the kind words Jay :)

Sometimes I worry that the game is just too big. Maybe we should have carved it up a little more, released less dungeons, not overwhelmed players as much... Then I remember that I want games to be like this, I want to be able to play a game I bought for years, even after I've mastered it. I hope that approach means that we can make enough sales with DD to keep making more games like that.

I suspect you are in for a bit of a windfall when the game is released on steam. Playing online only is a HUGE turnoff for lots of gamers, and MANY MANY more that are into indie games and roguelikes have simply never heard of DD. But when people see it in action, they immediately love it.
As for the size. Yes it does mean that gamers will be playing your game for years and years (I know I will), but that means that they will trust your studio when it releases a game. I know that I will be keeping a close eye out for your next project :) and my fingers are crossed that it will be a full realization of SpaceHack.

Agree with Jay - the lenght combined with really solid mechanics make it a good candidate one of those games people play for years and years. There's a huge appeal with non-hardcore gamer audiences because of the apparent accessibility.

I say apparent because higher level vet play is really hardcore gaming material, but as I've said before - I've known houswives that was hardcore at wario tetris ("that one game") and not even interested in anything else.

Very true. Desktop Dungeons is not too big. As long as the new challenges are enough to keep people interested, thena game can never be too big. I have already put a massive amount of time into DD, and I'm not nearly bored of it. Congrats on making a truly incredible game.
