Resistance and Damage Reduction - which order?

In which order are Resistance and Damage Reduction applied?
First Resistance and then Damage Reduction would be nice, since there is a greater gain.
But since DD mostly rounds in the direction which benefits monsters, it could be the other way around.

damage reduction first, resistance second.

Yes, it's part of the "err in favor of the monsters" mentality of the DD ruleset.

Yeah, the only thing in favor of the player concerning DR (other than the straight up DR) is if you can get it to do 0 damage to you (because of DR), you can ignore corrosion. This is usually irrelevant, but it can be a lifesaver in some cases.

That, pissing off EM and screwing up in Ick Swamp. It can be the difference between mid fight level up and death.

While pissing off EM and screwing up in Ick can certainly rack up corrosion, you're unlikely to be fighting anything with an attack weak enough that DR can completely overcome it. The Indomitable is pretty much the only circumstance that both these factors can realistically coincide.

Hmm... ok.
Was thinking about a way to fully utilize the Avatar's Codex (double fireball damage, but enemies retilate for 50% damage). Nice thing which i noticed was the in the case of Heavy Fireballs the monster damage gets also reduced by Resistance and Damage Reduction.

Elf monk could probably synergiese well, more so if one finds B2P. Only problem which i see is, that all the fireballs are really mana intensive... Think it's time to put the Crystall Ball out of the Veto Slot ( yep, it's true... i hear your rants :) but somehow i never really learned to really use this item (B2P is also on the 'things i need to learn'-list)

Avatar's Codex+Platemail+EM=INCREDIBLE! Does anyone know how resists and DR interact with fireball retaliation?

The special thing about the Avatar's Codex is, that it ISN'T fireball retilation, but the monster does 50% of its normal damage (of his normal damage typ). This means if you have 50% resistance the monster does only 25% damage :D

Wizard with Codex + ENDISWALL worked really nice against physical enemies, but was really mana-intensive. This lead to the idea with an Elf Monk, where one would start with nice resists.

Or a sorcerer with platemail and vine form. It is a nasty combo if you can get it going.
