Need help with Tower of Gaan-Telet

I just want my taxidermy prices out of the gutter, and clearing Gaan-Telet seems to be the way to do that. Problem is, that's giving me trouble.
I've given it at least six or so solid shots as various races/classes/gods, and getting through the room full of level 10s is where I seem to be running out of steam most often. I once managed to reach Horatio's room, but with no resources left whatsoever (blankspace, potions, monsters to level-up with, etc.).
I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do.
I need an optimal race/class/god combination to work with. (I'm willing to plow through to the level 8 room and start worshipping a god as early as possible, resetting if that god is the wrong god) Any tips or tricks would also be helpful, especially glyphs to not-convert, as I have a bad habit of converting glyphs I later find would have been useful.

I think Dwarf/Rogue/Dracul is one of the easiest way for novice players.
Edit: Prep item is Dragon shield or Dwarven Gauntlets
Edit2: Can of Whupaz for the boss

Dwarf Rogue, Human Paladin, and Human Sorcerer would all be good choices. Dracul is your go-to deity if you're lucky enough to find him. Staying power is everything in Gaan-Telet.

Dwarf Rogue is very consistent, as others have mentioned. Human/Orc Wizard can also be strong. Grab all the glyphs right away, and then convert all of your potions for massive melee power. It's good if you're feeling stumped because you're trading a complicated, time-dependent advantage (potions), for an uncomplicated and straightforward advantage (giant damage numbers).

Always did my first purist GT run with an orc rogue. Advantage of orc compared to dwarf is the higher damage and one might save more of the monster on the main floor for later. Ok, I might be biased, never really liked dwarves

Yes, DragonShield is a great prep (I think it's nearly always great). But my impression is, that purist GT is far more easy than the three wins on Dragon Isle.
Wizard is also great, since on most floors one get a nice item and wizard has more free slots than over classes.

Try elf sorcerer. It might not be the easiest but it's pretty good. It's my go-to combo for anything I want to beat easily and quickly.
And you can't prep anything for this quest, I don't know why people are suggesting preps.

the advantage of recording 100% of my play is that I can look back at the first time I played tower of Gaan Telet.
I played a halfling priest. I wasted TONS of exploration overusing endiswall, I totally screwed up my use of dracul, I mismanaged my use of potions grossly, I allowed huge amounts of corrosion to accrue on me, and I still came within just a couple of hits of killing horatio. Which I would have gotten if had just managed my conversions better.
It is much easier than most vicious runs after you figure out the mechanics.

Aaand victory!
Dwarf/Rogue/Dracul did it, all of which are three things which I underestimated the power of. Even did it in one shot, too! (Unless you count the one run where I ran in and found a non-Dracul god)
Thanks, everyone!
