There are no reliable Purist solutions to the Labyrinth. It's not so much that it generates unsolvable maps (although it might, I'm not sure), but that it generates maps that become unsolvable if you take the forks in the wrong order. The really nasty ones end up being one long corridor with most of the monsters staggered a few squares apart. You have some smaller corridors that can be used for recovery, but if you explore those before you find the "real" hallway you're totally boned. You'll start running into several powerful monsters in a row and be forced to use all of your potions, and then it happens again and it's game over. The problem isn't really Rex, it's being forced to fight monsters in an inappropriate order with no chance of recovery.

The humble Bearmace opens up the solution space quite nicely, but if I had to bet real money on a Purist Labyrinth I would either take the Gorgon, the Half-Dragon, or decline the bet.

You can get a technically Purist victory by taking the Transmuter and using LEMISEE to scum for a nearby Binlor altar.

My video is uploading right now, so I took the time to watch your video, Jay. I think your "brute-force" solution was way more reliable in the end than mine! I don't think I would've thought of the Taurog Halfling Priest, but it's actually a pretty good idea for this.

Anyway, like I said above, my "solution" was really scummy. I kinda feel like I cheated, actually :P Still, there's no denying its raw power...

@Sidestepper: My favored solution for Purist Labyrinth is the Gorgon, but obviously this was off the table since we were also doing it Warmonger... Warmonger Purist Labyrinth with a Gorgon... I just made my brain hurt XD

Edit: Aaand the video's up! Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dt_mzqfd-Y

I actually did that once. True fact. I think it was before the Rexx buff but I've still no idea how I did it.

Again, really nice videos! Even though a bit scummy, they show good solutions.

I liked the way Jay used the knockback of Rex when he was stuck between him and other monsters.

Maybe you could post the challenge when you decide on it, so everybody can try it before the videos are up?

I tried orc rogue a ton and could never pull out a win :/ I'm glad he worked for you though.

hmmm, how about this: Me and Schatcher and whatever other youtubers get involved will decide on the challenge run early in the week so that we have time to actually do it, then one of us will post what the challenge run is here on Thursday so that we don't get over influenced by the strategy discussions here, but you guys still have a chance to try it out.
I know I will probably have my video done well before Thursday anyway.
Anyway I think most of the runs will stay away from vicious dungeons, because people don't seem to like that idea.

Jay, that works for me! I'm also likely to have recorded my video before Friday anyway. Maybe we can tell each other (and whoever wants to also make a video) when we've completed it and tell everyone then?

Also, I don't know that we should rule out Vicious Dungeons completely... let's just keep that in the "maybe later" box :)
