Went with human fighter. Entered the arena at 8 going on 9 and had fireball/getindare with a fine sword and a soul orb hahah! I might've had a chance if I started in on one of the easier of the three bosses instead of going right for gooblob. I'm too tired for that madness right now.

Crusader and Tinker seem like solid options, though a tinker with the shops I just got is going nowhere fast lol. I'm gonna give fighter another go tomorrow when I'm more focused. My pride will not accept defeat!

^ All fine advice as far as I know.

Here's the halfling, it was a mess. Way too many mistakes on my part, way too many. I'm rusty. But at least I finally got polytheist.

Now, the Binlor Halfling concept is actually pretty solid anywhere except in Naga City - because you can't possibly take all the junk downstairs, or use the gold from killing bossess at the shops upstairs. Also, I descended with Cydstepp as my only glyph (great with halflings!) but it also ment I couldn't get too much out of my mana or trigger the spirit sword easily so I was technically playing - a halfling. The good news is a halfling with 2 bear maces and +40% knockback from binlor and cydstepp can beat naga city. With a lot of god juggling - I finally got the polytheist achievement, yay. This run included converting a piece of Taurog's gear for a potion while in GG, and that was a good move compared to many others.

I don't know what to think except that if a dungeon lets you acess the shops and the boss at the same time, the halfling is pretty good but deffinitely not for rusty/inexperienced users. If I had the sense god gave a goat and took pissorff instead of the trisword downstairs it would've been great. I'm curious about the gnome, though, how does that play out?

EDIT: Important note, the fabulous treasure was overkill because it I ended up converting all the stuff I bought with it mostly for potions - this wouldn't've been the case in say DI, DL or even NL. The real clinch is that this thing level catapults like a boss but NC doesn't really reward that - you want to descend when you're near level 8 so most of the topside monsters were wasted in every possible sense. I had tromendous power at my disposal and nothing to do with it most of the time, and nothing special when I could've used it. A VT run of DL is not out of the question with a halfling transmuter though.

Well, it beat VHOS through simultaneously spiking both bosses despite me cocking up quite a lot. The issue with the gnome was that the potion and ridiculous max mana spike interacts very awkwardly with Spirit Sword (as does Chaos Avatar). I suspect the Halfling is more practical. I mean, with Binlor topside you could basically do what you liked with him.

If I was (I might on Monday when I'm back) doing it I'd probably go JJ or GG with a view to a Tikki Tooki then Dracul switch because I like silly builds with many hit points and if you're going to go for the resist builds Human is probably better.

You suspect right. But you know you got one hell of a chainsaw if you can fell trees with it and only later discover that it's supposed to be turned on first :D

I think someone suggested assassin for the dungeon for some reason for a purist NC run. I don't remember the details, though.

EDIT: @Blovski - how in the world did you spike both bossess at once? O.O Doesn't Blah Blah blink? Entanglement spam, what? Or did you in fact push the indomitable around for no damage following the vampire while he blinked? o.O

EDIT no.2:  + You know what you get if you stick a Cydstep on an EM worshipping halfling? With, say, a Naga Cauldron?

I just drank all of my potions, levelled a couple of times, used Chaos Avatar and that was that.

Um, I'd explored the map mostly on account of bad play and really terrible luck with the monster loadout (level 8s and 9s were *all* Curse Golems and Illusions, it was hideous). Then I dealt with about a third of Indomitable's DPs with remaining topside exploration, spirit sword and fireballs, then started on Blahblah with Whupaz, dodge and the largest amount of mana potions anyone has ever drunk, throwing in Spirit Sword when it came up and I remembered. Finished off Indomitable with subdungeon exploration after I killed Blahblah.

I figured I had to use that blackspace somehow, so it ended up with the double-spike. Had Chaos Avatar, 1-2 level ups and all of the potions from Apothecary, Transmuter and Gnome, which was just a lot. Had two or three left over as well. Yeah, the blink's the other reason I reckoned Halfling would've potentially been a bit better (I'd have thrown in Platemail). The specific advantage of the gnome transmuter is that you get a nice easy early game as well as this hulking late game spike. Some classes spike better, others have an easier start, but the gnome transmuter is a very sound hybrid and it's a huge mana spike given it's got no reliance on lucky finds at all.

My theory is that a halfling could do more or less the same thing but have far less work timing his spike, and on VHOS you could take Platemail and get the ultracheapkill as well before Chaos Avataring your corrosion away. For the gnome the thing I'd do for future runs is use smallish 40cp type items to trigger spirit sword when I wanted to instead of having it waste 6 mana when I'm in the fireball chain.

Wow, I you must've had a hugeass load of potions, but I'm still impressed. (deep honorable bow smiley that we don't have here).

And the last paragraph is exactly how you do it. Pad it out / let it acummulate, and then pop it with any bit of junk.

24 mana is definitely the magic number (6 JJ, 3 Elven Boots, 5 from elsewhere) for a pure gnomish potion spike. 4 fireballs per Schadenfreude and 3 per 2 mana potions exactly. Think the lack of waste on that and the huge spirit sword hits were the reason I managed to spike those really fat bosses. I dread to think what I could've done if my spare gods hadn't been Taurog and TT, or with a Battlemage Ring as well.

Had kinisch down to his last death protection on a purist naga run but it wasn't winnable :( I've been at it all morning with many fails. My goodness purist Naga is BRUTAL.

Purist and Vicious don't generally mix well.

yeah I can see that. It seems like you need to play extremely well and make very few mistakes and if you don't your going to need a bit of luck on your side.
