Exclusive Badges

Postby Nurator on Tue Apr 08, 2014 5:33 pm

Hi all,

I just thought about Badges and that some of them seem to be very connected. For instance, getting Warmonger also gives you Specialist and so on. But is it?

Are there ways to get the following combinations? Dungeon is Den of Danger, every class and race is allowed!

-Warmonger without Specialist
-Ding Max without Cheeky and without Unstoppable
-Unstoppable and Chekky without Ding Max
-Vicious without Ding Max

And yes, they are all possible, I tried them out :) Maybe someone is interested in this little challenge :) The forum is getting pretty quiet in the moment!

Warmonger without Specialist

Half-dragon is the only way to do it.

Ding Max without Cheeky and without Unstoppable

Goblins will do it quite easily. Or just petrify a level 8+ enemy to disqualify yourself from unstoppable.

Unstoppable and Chekky without Ding Max

Not that hard. Just don't pursue bonus XP aggressively and you'll miss unstoppable. Going GG with humility will clinch it.

Vicious without Ding Max

Vicious token is easy to pull off without ding max, but the vicious dungeons are another matter. Easy enough on VHoS, and with a WEYTWUT bypass should be feasible on dragon isles, but outside of that there are just so many level 10 enemies you need to clear that it's going to be really tight even with humility. Vicious Gaan-Telet and Naga City are plainly going to take you to level 10; no way to avoid level-ups with that many level 10 opponents in your path. Even Hard Gaan-Telet will be tight to win without ding! max.

Alternatively, Glowing Guardian will do the trick. :)

True enough, I forgot about that one :-)

Or Whurgarbll.

Unstoppable without Ding Max just requires that you start killing level 8 monsters ASAP, it shouldn't be hard on an early dungeon. How about Unstoppable and Vicious without Ding Max?

Also the Sorcerer, now that I'm thinking about it.

Unstoppable/Vicious without Ding! Max is basically just banning the goblin assassin combo. Because the vicious token makes higher-level kills significantly more difficult, avoiding Ding! Max is trivial so long as you don't use XP boosting effects.

Funny enough, I just took a (very clumsily played) Human Paladin of Binlor through the Demonic Library and won without hitting level 10.

...I then proceeded to slay all of the mini-avatars along with the above-floor monsters and earned 6 prestige in doing so =D (probably could'Ve gotten more if I'd intentionally boosted the amount of mini-avatars, but whatever)

I'm not sure I could tell you whether anything specific that I did got me through without hitting 10 though. It's probably being forced to avoid all of the Cursed Steel Golems, which made up a significant chunk of the enemies.

Hitting level 10 is harder than it seems. Those last few levels require an inordinate amount of XP, and you can no longer learn appreciable amounts of bonus XP under normal circumstances.

The XP table:
level 2 - 5 XP / 5 total
level 3 - 10 XP / 15 total
level 4 - 15 XP / 30 total
level 5 - 20 XP / 50 total
level 6 - 25 XP / 75 total
level 7 - 30 XP / 105 total
level 8 - 35 XP / 140 total
level 9 - 40 XP / 180 total
level 10 - 45 XP / 225 total

That final stretch is vast. Going from level 8 to level 10, in my opinion, requires about as much effort as going from level 1 to level 8. As veterans we know this and account for it, often throwing massive sums of resources into assuring those final level-ups (seriously, count up how much MP you're using on WEYTWUT or WONAFYT farming; we're throwing away mountains of resources doing it, all the while singing its praises). It's easy for us to overlook the significance of that, since we know so many tricks to facilitate those final level-ups, but earning those last few levels is hard under standard conditions with no source of additional bonus XP.

So no, I'm not surprised that your Paladin of Binlor, who probably didn't have WEYTWUT, didn't hit level 10 before the boss kill. Certainly unusual on an XP-happy scenario like Demonic Library, but not surprising.

^ Word.

As an eternal odd man out, I have to say that I don't even hit level 8 or 9 without IMAWAL at my disposal.
