I guess this might be a good idea as it gets rid of the bot problem. However, it requires users to have two accounts (one for the forum another one for the wiki) and also admins that grant the permission after reading the forum. Apart from these points it is a solid way to get rid of the bots.

Another temporary way might be changing all of the "security" questions in place or even the security mechanism at all. Though, I'm not sure how long this will help, if it helps at all.

I'm a fan of the middle tier idea. Can that happen without me having to stop working on new classes for you to break just so I can bang my head against wiki PHP again?

So the spam was stopped for a few days but it looks like the spambots are back now. Whatever change was made was only a temporary fix.

Also, any admins should start hammering away at the orphaned pages, which are almost exclusively spam.

Is there a way to help without too much wiki knowledge?

Spam is picking up again. It stopped entirely around the beginning of the month, but has since resumed and has been picking up speed ever since. It's reached its torrential levels again. Over the last 48 hours, about 120 pages of spam were posted. We need a permanent solution to the issue.

Have we done anything yet ?
Spamming keeps going. If we don't do anything, the wiki might just get get wiped away under weight of millions fake pages...

Some links about wiki spam fighting :

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Nuke

At very last, we should save the present wiki, in case everything goes wrong. I might try to do this (in html...)

I think before nuking anything the intermediate user level needs to be introduced. Only this level is allowed to edit pages but needs to be promoted to manually by admins
