VGT Assistant Tool

Postby sitnaltax on Sun Feb 01, 2015 6:41 pm

In my recent VGT runs, I found myself sometimes making mistakes because I lost track of what exotic monsters I'd already fought, or what penalties I'd already suffered. To help keep track of these things I put together a small tool:

http://rule0.com/DesktopDungeons/VgtTracker.html

This just lets you check off the various monsters/items, penalties, and altars as you encounter them. It also has a reference for what altar goes with what tileset, in case you don't happen to remember.

Possible handy uses:

  • Determine how many curses you still have to deal with
  • Remember which dangerous misfortunes you still have to deal with
  • Remember which debuffing exotic monsters you still have to deal with
  • Figure out if the item you can't find is worth wasting blackspace for
  • Figure out if there's additional blackspace past the already-visible edges of this level
  • Determine which altar is on your level even if the sparkles aren't visible

If you run into any problems, let me know.

Through using this tool to keep track, I believe I have come to a conclusion: You are NOT guaranteed to get all seven misfortunes on a run. You can have up to three safe floors, and if you do the last misfortune never triggers.

I suspect this is a throwback to the days when a misfortune could trigger on H's level. It no longer does (I recently changed the wiki to reflect that) but there can still be two of the 2-9 floors that have no misfortune, in addition to floor 1.

Edit: The tool now reflects this, and has a Reset button as well.

Quite possibly the most sadistic badge to grab in the game, and not far behind Goatperson VGT for the title of hardest challenge.
