Dailies suggestion - scoring metric

Hey, an idea for the DERP.

I'm not sure exactly how to quantify everything, but I figure a monthly or weekly scoreboard for DERPs in addition to the win streak metric as its own separate thing would be nice.

For example, each badge can have its own point value. Blanking out preps could have a score value (either small compared to Purist or not stacking with Purist, if applicable). If it's weekly, you probably wouldn't need bonus points for low-winrate maps, since just getting the win itself would be a significant reward.

Maybe a win is worth, say, 100 base points. Cheeky, 5 points. Parched, 10 or 15. 5 or 10 points per skipped prep, or instead 50 for Purist. 5-10 for Ding Max, Faithless, Unstoppable. 10-20 for Warmonger, 5-10 for Specialist. 5 points per level below 8 at the finish. Maybe even have a "preferred badge" prep worth an extra 10 points, whatever the badge is.

I'm not sure how the point values should be balanced, but I know lots of people (not me especially) like to stretch for badges on easier maps as it is.

One of the general problems is that there's no agreement on what the target metrics (other than victory) should be. Some people are going for best time, some are going for highest XP, some for lowest XP, some for no-prep victories, some just trying to build long streaks safely. It's difficult to create one approach to suit everyone.

I do think "number of badges" might be an acceptable scoring column, along with time/damage/XP that is currently displayed.

Steaks would still be what they are now, and a separate thing.

I had some suggestions for a point scheme that awards bonuses for low *or* high XP, but the numbers could be tweaked. (0 for level 8-9, +5 per level under 8, +5 or +10 for Ding Max, maybe +5 or +10 per Prestige).

My idea so far, anyway, is to have weekly point totals. If you don't want to risk your streak to shoot for high points, then that's fine. It would force players to make tough metagame decisions, though.

The more complicated this gets, the more innovation would be needed to sort out the leaderboard UI. But I thought I'd throw an idea out there anyway.

I wouldn't go for an "all-in" score calculation. But a daily metric for number of badges scored would be fun I guess (instead of damage dealt for example, which is not very meaningful IMHO).

Well, that's two votes against fancy point schemes, but badge counts appear to be popular and low-hanging as far as implementation goes.

Problem 1 getting agreement from people.
Problem 2...making it worthwhile for the developers to add new code.
Problem 3... cheats and exploits that people can use to make it a non-level playing field.

Example for 3...I had a weird thing happen yesterday. I clicked on a monster to attack and my hand jerked as I was letting up the mouse button. The button came up as the cursor was hovering over a different monster...right beside the one I intended. When the attach went off, it hit both monsters, but I only took damage from one.

I haven't tried to reproduce it yet. Maybe it's a known thing? Maybe it was a total fluke? But I'm sure there are other reproducible anomalies that could give unfair advantages.

I don't play to compete, but I do enjoy seeing the different ways people approach the dailies and manage to win.

If they ever want to make the dailies tougher they could just add criteria to victories such as must go parched or purist, etc. That would really separate the really good players from wannabe's like me.
