just a quick thing. I started attempting using earthmother in phantom citadel but sometimes when I attempt to use any boon that places plants my game straight up crashes. it's not like it's the first time I try buying a boon it crashes but just when at a random number of times when I buy a boon it crashes. hope that makes sense (the wording not the crashing)

Aw man, I remember two years ago posting my mod ideas here thinking that there would never be a real mod expansion for desktop dungeons. But it seems the community has delivered ^-^

This is a good excuse for me to get back into the game and finish off unlocking the last couple of monster classes, then check out your mod once I'm properly done with the original content =3.

I'd actually suggest, unless you care about steam achievements or dailies, to just install the mod asap. The reason for this is twofold; first up, it'll offer something to do you can use to take a break from your current goal. If you end up struggling beating a vicious, pep yourself up by completing some new quests. If some of the new content overwhelms, dial back to trying for the monster classes. Second, the mod will offer a couple toys to play with even while doing vanilla content you may otherwise find no use or value in, if you choose to start only when you've fully done vanilla. Speaking subdungeon items, an additional class or two, and while unlikely you'll unlock them in time, some new quest items to use in the shops.

Of course, if you're a total purist and feel mod content shouldn't be involved in your vanilla progress that's another issue, but it's all pretty well balanced so if that's not much of a concern there's no real reason not to just install now.

It's also worth mentioning that mod does not change, alter, or add to the base game content; first mod quest begins as soon as you complete Oh, Horatio!

If any problems / suggestions, feel free to use a thread dedicated to East expansion or add me on Steam.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Download over at ddmod.weebly.com.

I am a bit of a purist and I usually do a full run of the vanilla game before starting over with mods (mainly, the idea of having free extra locker slots turned me off a tiny bit) but I only had Oh, Horatio left to do along with the rat monarch and gorgon unlocks (and a bunch of class challenges, but those won't change much)

Either way, I caved in and installed the mod despite my purist tendencies, and after about 10 or so attempts today I finally finished Oh, Horatio using an orc rogue ^-^

Has anybody attempted to run the mod on the Linux version from GOG?
I get this:
Code: Select all
Invalid serialized file version. File: "/home/somebody/games/Desktop Dungeons Extreme Edition/game/DesktopDungeons_Data/mainData". Expected version: 4.6.4p2. Actual version: 4.6.4f1.

(Filename:  Line: 736)

Failed to read file '/home/somebody/games/Desktop Dungeons Extreme Edition/game/DesktopDungeons_Data/mainData' because it is corrupted.

(Filename:  Line: 442)

PlayerInitEngineNoGraphics settings: Could..... not preload global game manager #0   i=0
Failed to initialize player

Looked at the original install, and sure enough, "strings mainData" shows 4.6.4p2. Changing the mod's mainData with a hex editor gives a solid pink window. AFAICT from digging through the executable, the mod's mainData was created with an older version of Unity than the original game.

Thanks.

It's the other way round: The versions on GoG are older than those distributed by Steam. In Unity's versioning system p means "patch" and f means "final", so 4.6.4p2 is older than 4.6.4f1.

As for why the GoG versions of the game aren't the same as those distributed on Steam - that's a long and complex situation involving localization and difficult update mechanisms. Maybe I'll get GoG to carry the latest versions at some point, but that would mean time away from what I'm currently working on...

I'm also not even sure if the mod works on Linux TBH, I would be very surprised if it did seeing as there are differences between the Unity runtimes and the mod is directly patching new IL code into mainData. Basically: I'm not sure the mainData formats across operating systems are the same, which is probably why you're getting that pink screen when you spoof a different version number.

It is functional on Linux (one of our main coders actually runs it through Linux), but apparently it is more prone to freezing/crashing without a DD Error message. So if you have a choice you should definitely use Windows or Mac, but if not you can still play through everything we’ve made on Linux.

I confirm, I even develop and compile the mod on Linux. I use the Steam version though.

I occasionally get crashes without messages when I start the game with the mod, but if it loads correctly all the menus, then it works correctly most of the time.
