I would totally use that. Nearest unseen monster please.

On the topic of less-than-useful glyphs, has anyone found a good use for LEMMISI in the beta? It's the same spell as it was in the alpha, but the alpha dungeons always had a substantial amount of inaccessible dead space that could be revealed during the end-game (often to the order of 30 or 40 tiles worth!). In seems beta dungeons are much more compact and space efficient, and there's just no area for LEMMISI to reveal once exploration is done. There are a few subdungeons that are great for LEMMISI, but that's more of an exception than the rule.

Guys, from the text for LEMMISI:

"Uncovers 3 random dungeon tiles with normal regeneration benefits. Seeks nearby enemies"

And it does indeed reveal the closest unseen monster to your position.

Huh... I've used LEMMISI in subdungeons before and it definitely didn't target the monsters first.

Curious. Now that you've mentioned it, I've only used it in the main dungeon and it showed the monsters first, one or two monsters per cast of LEMMISI. Just tested it when I wrote my previous post as well.

LEMMISI seems a bit random in whether or not it reveals a monster. Though the times I've used it it's been pretty good at revealing them.

Hmm... I just did a quick test run as a wizard in The Chokebox, the first 30 casts of LEMMISI showed monsters, at that point there weren't any more unseen monsters on the map (verified by revealing the whole map).

A second run in Venture Cave yielded the following number of monsters revealed per cast:
11111121111111111111111111111211

A third in the Western Jungle:
213111121111111111211111111111111

Edit: Apologies in advance if this is coming across as argumentative. Maybe I've just had extraordinarily good/consistent luck with LEMMISI so far.

As I said, my experience is with subdungeons (which tend to be more LEMMISI friendly to begin with). It's possible this is an issue only with subdungeons and not the main floor. I'll have to double-check the next time I get LEMMISI on a subdungeon with monsters.

The one dungeon where LEMMISI's traditional use seems like it would be especially helpful is Namtar's Lair, where there are often large chunks of wall and relatively few tiles available. Also, LEMMISI + WEYTWUT can be used together to reach parts of a dungeon that would otherwise be inaccessible, although it's usually not worth the effort; I do wonder if that combo might allow you to skip one of the more obnoxious parts of the latest vicious dungeon (at least for the 10 classes that have difficulty with that part).
