The Tileset Thread

Postby JaeB_ on Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:37 pm

Hello there, Dungeoneers!

Since this is the official DD-forum now, i'll post my tileset here.
Feel free to add your own tilesets to the thread!

So here is my C=64-palette singlecolor 10x20 sprites retro tileset!
It's based on Derek Yu's default tileset so the players should be able to easily identify the tiles.
Please comment, review, make suggestions and enjoy:

I quite like the feel of it. Though what bothers me is: 1) the black background on the units/items/blood etc... It would improve a lot, in my opinion, if it was the dungeon floor pattern instead. 2) This is hard to pinpoint, but I was a bit confused while playing it... some things look alike. For example: in screenshot 2 the mana powerup and the lemisi glyph look very similar.

But overall a like the feel and the idea behind the theme :)

Yeah, if DD were an early vintage C-64 game (homebrewers get to it - it should be possible) then all the glyphs would be the same colour.

I initially did that but it didn't look good to me - the sprites just blended into the surroundings and were even harder to distinguish.

then all the glyphs would be the same colour

Good idea, i'll think about that. It would solve Hexagon's second problem too, so at least I should change the color of LEMMISI. By the way: I'd love to play DD on my Commodore! :)
