Dungeon Ascendance

I've been waiting for DD to (hopefully) arrive for my Android device and in my process of googling for new info I stumbled upon this thing. From the looks of it it's eerily similar to DD, but for some reason the demo doesn't work on my device so I cannot really check in detail whether the similarities are superficial or the game is a true clone of DD (with merely cosmetic differences).

Does someone have additional info about this particular game? Is it different enough from DD so I can get it with free conscience, or is it a shameless ripoff which I should be actively advising people against?

Thanks for any feedback about this. Cheers!

No worries, Dungeon Ascendance isn't what I'd call a clone. It seems to bear a lot of similarities to a comment we got on QCFdesign.com ages ago about changing DD to have food instead of regen on reveal and a couple of monster ideas from that, so I'd say it could easily be inspired by that post, but it's definitely its own game. Quite fun too! I like the way it handles character abilities and spells too, stuff like "for the next three hits you'll do more damage", etc. That's neat :)

And yeah, we'll start working on the Android port as soon as we're done with the PC/Mac version. That's definite.

Did you find Dungeon Ascendance via the PocketGamer review?

Jayisgames, actually.

It irked me that they didn't mention DD in the review, even though they covered DD in a previous review. I was duped beforehand into buying something that was a blatant clone of somebody elses work (which I was unaware of at the time), so I am extra careful now not to repeat that mistake. :)

Well if you play DA it's actually a lot less like DD and more like a less feature-complete roguelike than it looks at first glance. Taking out DD's core mechanic will do that ;)

I check up on games I'm interested in too, sometimes something will stick out and feel like it's a copy of something else. Generally things are all right though, seeing as I don't play FB games and only really follow recommendations on iOS, so I don't get exposed to too much of the worst cloning spaces in games these days.
