Browser crash / memory leak on startup

Postby Invain on Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:28 pm

Hi,

Purchased the game today, played at home without any problems. Tried to play at work (different pc), game crashes on startup every time.

I open the page, unity starts to load. When the progress bar is full, the browser stops responding. There also seems to be a memory leak at that point - Page File Usage in Task Manager started gradually increasing from ~600 MB to over 2.2 gb (at which point I killed the process). Other Unity games load ok. Unity was installed on the pc today. Same issue in Opera Portable 11.61 launched from USB drive and in IE 7 installed locally on the pc.

Any help will be appreciated :)

That sounds like some sort of issue is blocking the game starting up, which is odd... DD should only try to connect to the web after it loads (and hence renders the black loading screen at least once) but check if you have any firewalls active at work that might be causing an issue.

Other than that, it might be a driver issue with your graphics card.

I've tried two other pcs at work and had the same issue, might be caused by some global policy setting. Unfortunately I can't modify the drivers or firewall settings so I won't be able to check this any further.

I'm wondering if Unity might not have installed properly due to lack of admin rights. I got no errors during the installation, but apart from the DD issue I can't launch UnityBugReporter.exe. I had some issues installing other stuff on the work pc before - for example to get flash player to work I had to manually place the .dll in the portable opera plugin directory. Shame there seems to be no way to do it with Unity.

Anyway, it's not a big problem as I can still play from home. Thanks for the quick response :)
