I don't think that people literally want the old GG back, they just want the old theme back, and they want his strictures to not conflict with his boons. Darvin has floated a proposition that accomplishes this, and several other solutions are surely possible.

There's no pleasing you people.

If something works well, it needs to be nerfed.

If something doesn't work well, it needs to be buffed/changed/eliminated.

Before you rant at me (looking at you, Lujo, though I still have you on ignore), I'm just kidding.

Mostly.

All we expect is complete and total perfection. Is that really too much to ask?

Well, I don't think I've seen anyone whine about Fine Sword yet...

(Although they did went and gave it an unnecessary nerf just so that Taurog could look better)

Fact is, fine sword is still a top-notch item at +4. There's so little competition for base attack that it still shines, and seeing as the trisword and orc aren't nearly as powerful this version it basically stands alone.

You bring up a good point, though. We haven't whined about the bread-and-butter items nearly enough.

I think it's because the default items are decent but not OP.

Health Necklace - I buy it sometimes if I need to be able to tank a hit from a boss. Good for final battles since it gives potions an extra kick, good for Vamps, Priests, anyone with resists etc.

Mana Necklace - Great for casters, nuff said

Troll Heart - Sometimes buy if I find it early on and I'm not expecting to use my gold for anything else.

Phys resist shield - +10% Phys Resist = yes please on any resist char or vamp

Fine Sword - Sometimes buy. It's cheaper than a Tri-Sword if you only have a couple of pots or limited gold. If you are saving pots for the final boss then the fine sword is often better than tri-sword for most of the dungeon.

Is that all the items?

Ah, thanks for reminding me.

Bloody sigil - cheap conversion points, and I've actually used it before when I needed the +max health to tank boss hits

Spoon - Excellent item. Better than the Fine Sword imo.

Badge - Actually this one I haven't bought in a long while. Not sure why. I think bonus damage is more easily available than +base damage. The extra death protection is nice but it's a one time deal.

I'll complain about Fine Sword! :)

Like Darvin said, it's still the best choice for base attack with no hoops to jump through. I keep hoping for another item that provides base attack. There even are a few in the game (Yin and Yang's Swords), but we can't locker them :(

I'd actually like the Avatar's Symbol to lose its 9% resists and get base attack instead. Something like +6 to make it the "improved" version of the fine sword as the dragonshield is the "improved" version of the tower shield.

Ying/Yang swords and Draco's Heart should definitely be lockerable.
