Crash, crash, crash

Crash, crash, crash

Postby enfowler on Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:51 am

Hello! I paid for the pre-order of this game on Friday, 6-29, played for hours, all was great. On Saturday, 6-30, I had trouble logging on but finally after restarting my computer I was able to. However, while playing, the game suddenly froze. When I scrolled down, the game screen was replaced with the screen as I scrolled. I tried again, and the same thing kept happening. Sometimes I could play for 10 minutes before it would freeze, sometimes only a couple. Sometimes it occurs while using a glyph, sometimes it does not. I have been unable to complete any mission in the last two days because it always freezes before I'm through. Please help! I love the game, and it's so frustrating not to be able to keep playing.
Thanks!

Hmm. Sorry about that, if you give us more info, maybe we can figure out what's going on...

Which browser are you playing the game in?
Does it display any error messages when it crashes?
Could you give us a screenshot of what a crash looks like?

Thank you so much for your quick reply! I was able to play for several hours last night with no problems, so I’m just getting back to you today. Hopefully I will be able to answer your questions—I love games, and I’m not so savvy on knowing how things work together.
First off, I am using Internet Explorer—I think it’s whatever the most recent version is (I don’t know how to tell!)
When I tried to log on tonight, I received this error, which I did “send error report.” I closed Internet Explorer, and I was able to log on ok after that.

After playing for about an hour and a half (I love this game!), I was close to completing the Southern Swamp, fighting the boss, and the screen froze. Initially, part of it blanked out (the part with the character picture in the upper right,) and it looked like this:

I was unable to click to move anything, attack again, etc. When I scrolled down on the side, the playing screen was replaced with the scrolled text, like this:

I hope this makes more sense than in my original post! I don’t get any error messages, it just stops working. Thanks again so much for your help and the great game!

Eek! Ok, so my pictures didn't copy over, and I don't know how to add them! Please tell me how to post an image to you, and I'll get it. I'm totally not tech savvy.

Ok, so I just tried to log on again, and got the error again (I have a picture from before, but since I am challenged in the ways of posting, you can't see it.) This time I clicked "see what this error report contains" and this is what I got:

Generally people post screenshots via image hosting sites like ImageShack because they don't require accounts and then it's easy to just copy-paste the code it gives you for an image.

Also, thanks for the text dump: That makes it obvious that it's a Unity crash and not DD itself going berserk, which a good thing - we had no idea what in the game might be causing issues with Apheelsick. I would suggest updating your graphics drivers and seeing if that has any effect. I'll take another look at the code for Apheelsick to see if there's any odd rendering going on there as well.

Edit: Oh wait, there seems to have been a thing with full health poisoning. Let's see if the crash goes away after today's update...

Ok, so I finally figured out the picture thing. Here are a couple of pictures of the in-game crashes. This one is from a few days ago; I had been in the dungeon for a while when it occurred:
Image

This one is from tonight, and it occurred right after opening a dungeon:
Image

This is what happens to the game screen if I scroll down after the crash:
Image

Here is an error I got yesterday while trying to log on:
Image

Hopefully these are helpful! Both of these are from the Southern Swamp area, but it freezes in any dungeon. I can't find a pattern--sometimes it's when I'm attacking, using a glyph, just walking... It makes no sense!
Thanks so much for your attention into this.

Ok, so it's crashed since Friday's update? Then it wasn't the Apheelsik infinite loop bug...

This week I'll be hunting down a rather pernicious memory leak that I've been after for about 2 weeks now (finally tracked it down to a specific area of code), which might be what's causing this. How long can you usually play for before it crashes?

Sometimes I can play for an hour or so, but lately it's been topping out at about 5-10 minutes.
