Well, the main reason for leaning on Entanglement was because it blocks retaliation when using the Codex. It lets you behave like a normal fireballer as long as you have piety and space to spare. A Greenblood acid caster can exceed the burst potential of a Codex user, but that strategy works poorly on Cursed Oasis because of the split layout, hence the Codex/Entanglement combo.

Plus if you're going up against stuff that retaliates fireballs anyway, and you intend to lob fireballs at it, they might as well be fat ones ^^

Ok, here's a fun thing to do - next time PQI sends you to hobblers, and you have the codex, and the badge lets you worship and use glyphs, pick up EM and the Codex completely regardless of what class/race it sets you up with.

I just did it with a specialist goblin rogue. Miser as well, and parched. Ok, it's hobbler's, I know, but the point is it's fun and you can get the hang of how powerfull Codex EM is. You don't really need anything but Entanglement and Codex on easier places.

Bad news. Slowed enemies don't get double fireball damage. Not sure if this was changed with the last patch or what (since I wasn't using that strategy before).

However I did have great fun against Aequitas as an Elf Monk with Mystic Balance, Dragonsoul and WEYTWUT. Eliminating retaliation is definitely still useful to do sometimes.

I just did a panicked test and the Codex still works just fine against slowed monsters. I think you either found a bug or misinterpreted the results.

When did this happen? I've been using the EM strat a lot and didn't even notice, so it's either a silent hotfix applied yesterday or the strat works better than I thought.

And priests and monks work really well with it even without EM, which gives them a fun new playstyle as a post game thing. Big reason I like the codex just being there - it helps with elf and gnome PQI runs quite a bit.

EDIT: And I just had an unstoppable run in doubledoom with a dwarftransmuter. Slow + Codex seems to be working correctly.
