What about weakening and corrosion? A couple layers of those early can be nasty, to say the least.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

A redesign of Petition is something we've wanted for a while, but the problem is that it would have to be a full redesign. I would much rather the punishments be doubled edged and tolerable so that you always have this background of chaos, but at this point the game isn't going to change much. I feel that most of JJs mechanics work against the theme. Petition is like if GG had a boon that turned living beings into undead. It would be mechanically useful but horribly off-theme. Chaos Avatar requires lots of timing and calculation and just doesn't have that spontaneous flavor that I associate with the name.

The effect of CA is also really bland, but that's kind of a separate issue. It looks like the design decision was to make JJ universally useful to all classes, but the result is that all of his boons feel kind of generic and characterless. I can't really say that this is the wrong approach, but miss the crazy things that JJ could do in the alpha.

Just remove health drain and mana burn from the list of punishments then slightly reduce the piety cost of petition. That'd be my "minimally intrusive" fix to JJ.
