I didn't end up popping the Yendor early because I didn't really think about how less useful a midfight level up is with a goat. Still, given that I explored west and took down the level 3 Bandit over there right away, it's not like I needed the early XP. I ended up hanging on to it as a "get out of Taurog free" card since my glyphs were doing work, but in the end I just boosted my damage a bit after a mega plantation/corrosion/clearance spree for the boss.

Almost lost due to bad decisions at the start, had to pop the Yendor early to survive an early starvation issue.

But, since I had GG at level 1, I managed to snag a nice amount of Piety (30) just from the ding from level 1 to 5. You wouldn't otherwise get much level up piety from him since it always reset back to 3 piety gain every time you switch to another god and back to him.

Earthmother allowed me to get the mobile subdungeon 50 Piety package, which was a cool Dwarven Gauntlets plus 2 each of the 2 potions. I consider it the better deal in this map considering the 100 Piety package only gives 1 more set of 2 potions and 3 Scrolls of Compression (rather than the gauntlets).

Humility and buying the Orb of Zot and using it (Elite items prepped) meant I could catch up on lost XP from the early use of Yendor. In the end, still had to settle for 3rd highest XP (275 XP).

Ending with GG with all mobs cleared allowed me to rack up some insane level of piety (basically buying everything, well only 1 item left, was out of gold, and converting all items, glyphs and food). In the end I managed to get 26 beads and Enlightenment which was just enough for another level up. Had 500+ piety and topped the piety charts, :)

If the last god that I ended after enlightenment was EM, I could even get another 50 to 100 more piety from the remaining blood pools. But considering I could end up killing myself if the Barbed plant spawned on the boss blood pool (since I converted everything including Burndayraz), I consider myself better off ending with Taurog. [Now, thinking of it, it may not be that bad if I ended with EM since using clearance or even leaving through the entrance signpost are possible ways to end the run]

Still, not a "good" run considering I could have died if I had not prepped Yendor. Major kudos to those who completed it purist or went in with minimal preps (I saw Madder since he is always doing this topping the damage charts thingy with no or just 1 prep).

Hey all, I'm new to the forums. My in-game name is the same as my forum name.

So, I was very surprised to see myself on the leaderboards after today's challenge (Elf Bloodmage, Halls of Steel), seeing as how I died. I got greedy for experience and tried to take on level 10 zombies in the sub-D but ran out of resources on the last one. I had a 10% chance to kill him from dodging, but it wasn't meant to be.

But, apparently dying after killing both bosses still counts as a win. Yay?!

Elf Bloodmage, Halls of Steel

Those preps. Sticky Stick + Translocation + Elite Items ends up being really worth it. Orb of Lusory makes the combo shine pretty well too, with The Firstborn being the random boss. The Indomitable was hiding from me, though.

Using Taurog is pretty surreal for an Elf Bloodmage, as well as converting into TT when both bosses were still alive, but with that Elite Item buy everything is possible :) Only semi-regret is that IMAWAL spawned so far away from the entrance, but I probably wouldn't have the inventory space to use it anyway.

Also Zombie Gold again. This is an amazing layout for Bloodmages. I converted BLUD2POWA at level 1, but I could easily see others doing +5 or even +6 level kills early.

Lots of illusions today, but no matter; that 50% magic resistance makes the magic damage bosses utter pushovers. Never even used my Apothecary prep.

Shame JJ was so far from the entrance. Could have WEYTWUT'd some of the illusions to 2-hit them with fireballs later, but by the time I found him there was too little exploration left to safely do that.

When playing the bloodmage I need to remember to change my habit of stepping on enemies right after killing them. Orb of Zot + high level wraiths made up for the high number of illusions.

Major fail today. Lots of lessons yet to learn...though I did die on a misclick, I don't think I was going to win anyway.

Curious on strategy that worked best? I think prepping Binlor would have been a huge help. No other way to get to the sub that I could see.

Also, Pisorf would have been nice. Illusions had fireball retaliate or they weakened you if you hit them. The Bludtopowa only goes so far it seems until black space gets critical. And those damn death protection armor aren't easy. No truly easy pickings.

I prepped the stick (which I soon go rid of), Elite items, translocation scroll and the mage plate.

Grabbed the Orb of Zot with the scroll (and used it right away) and eventually got the orb of illusory. Worshipped TT and got Dodge and the extra experience point boon. Got up to about level 5 or 6 with my Sanguine at 32%, 33 gold on hand and my mana up to around 15. Also had 8 levels of weakening, but was going to buy a potion to fix that after I finished the Wizard that I misclicked on.

At that point, though, I had only maybe a quarter screen of black space yet. I felt victory was doable, but not going to be easy as I had no popcorn to fall back on and no easy kills in sight.

My big problem was getting higher level kills while I was low level. Like I said, I think Binlor would have been a smart prep.

What flaws do you guys see in what little information I provided (other than being more careful where I click)? I'd like to improve and I think it's my early game that needs help the most. Getting higher level kills as soon as possible.

Thanks!
