Game crashing on startup

Postby Hurdoc on Thu Jun 09, 2011 2:12 am

Hello,

The most recent download on the site works fine on my wife's laptop but crashes on mine. I'm guessing there may be some minor software or Windows update that I might be missing? The message I get is a Windows one: "DesktopDungeons.exe has stopped working." This is followed by a message from the .exe itself saying "Failed to load the game data. File seems corrupted."

I downloaded on my wife's laptop a few days ago, and on mine just yesterday. Maybe there is a difference in the versions?

It may be a minor driver / software update, this does happen from time to time. I don't think it'll be a version difference, though: the freeware file (for Windows, at least) has been the same since DesktopDungeons.net went live.

My game has also been crashing on start-up. After launching the game, nothing happens for a few seconds, then I get a window saying "Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has stopped working", with these details:

Hi,

I'm the OP. Any comments or thoughts on this, perhaps from the designer? I've preordered this game too, I enjoy it... but I cannot currently play it. :(

There's a known issue with Game Maker and certain print spoolers. We have no idea why GM even cares about your printers, but the best solution appears to be to end any printer spooling processes before starting the game.

Let me know if that helps... In the OP's case: Are there any printers that your laptop interacts with that your wife's doesn't?

Hmm, my computer (its a destop, not a laptop) is not connected to any printers at all. But I don't get the same error that the second post in this thread is about. I get:

"DesktopDungeons.exe has stopped working." (Windows message)

followed immediately by:

"Failed to load the game data. File seems corrupted." (from the game .exe itself)

Thanks.

Even though I wasn't getting the same error message as qikink, stopping the printer spool process also got my game working as well! :)
