It would need to be quite a bit weaker, or have a drawback. Otherwise Monks get a disproportionately huge buff. Maybe have it reflect back to you 1/2 the damage it does, seeing as it is a flaming sword after all (either unresistable or subject to your magic resist).

Wow. We all want to burn stuff, but neglect the fact that we'd get burned. Ironic.

But yeah, 3 damage per level, but 1 damage per level to you. (Okay maybe that's a bit harsh, but 30 damage per shot if you take 10 extra could be a fair trade.) And it would have to be unresistable, or berserkers would go crazy.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

I don't have a problem with Berserker getting a better deal than other classes, since physical resist opponents are such a raw deal for them. For everyone else, if you really put in the effort I see no reason why you shouldn't get to reap the benefits.

So what you are suggesting is some sort of Sorcerers mana shield on a stick, whith possible feedback damage?

We could use some more anti DP tools, such a thing would be nice.

I don't think Alpha Flaming Sword would be a good item in Beta. The monster spread per dungeon is just too thin in this version.

As for that suggested version, part of me is scared that 3 damage per level, even with the drawback is essentially old Tri-sword levels of pain.

I like 1 per level magic. The difference is this is not affectable with %s so even if you made it +3 magic
Per level it would never be as broken as the tri-sword.

How about making it depend on your actual mana?

"Sorcerers Shield Stick", or SSS for short:
Gives +X Magic Damage where X is your actual mana and the cap is at Y*LVL.

You can have at most a Y0 Damagebonus, but you have to think about the order in which you want to use your mana, you have to raise your cap in order to get the full bonus and it doesn't scale in bonusdamage%.
I'd suggest to set Y=3 but this is open to debate.

This way it would be also nice for elves.
