Vicious unlock quest are a good idea. But the quests are only accessible after Horratio goes down. Something like beating the previous level with 4 characters (and remove Vicious HoS, and move vamp quest to Namtar)

The Master: You stopped the threat from the east, and their master has retreated. If you want to reach, and kill him, you will have to go through The Indomitable...

Demonic Rituals: The changeling demons have been stopped and their essence has sealed in the demonlords. If you wish to finish them once and for all, you must collect more essence to reach their Demonic Library.

The Last of the First: You have eliminated the Druid threat in the west, and the dragons fled through the underground labyrinths. While they pose no threat and your western borders are safe, it might be worth pursuing. Unfortunately, that requires more exploration the labyrinths.

A Game of Kings: Due to the killing of the high general Issstama Itsssa, the Naga Empire has backed off. Still, their actions were unacceptable. If you wish to find their Kingdom and take vengeance, it will require further searches into the swamp.
We made an expansion and it is awesome. Really, you should check it out, especially if you're looking for some extra challenge.

I kinda like that too. If there's an unlock quest, I'd like it to be short but not easy - like, defeat the corresponding Hard dungeon with under X gold prep, or while getting at least X medals.
Have a mug of tea.

True, if you have what it takes, they should be immediately accessible. But you don't want intermediate players wasting all their money on a vicious before Horratio, and due to the economy collapse, being unable to obtain a good amount of gold.

When do flaming dungeons start appearing? (I still haven't started a new profile...) I've had plenty of cash since they arrived, and that's after a week of banging my head against the wall that is VHoS. Run out of cash, go extinguish the flame, go get killed by the indomitable again, rinse, repeat.

Not entirely related, but I don't mind the difficulty. It keeps me interested. I remember trying to beat nethack in my youth, before you could just look everything up online.... good lord. Hours and hours gone due to a stupid mistake, as opposed to 30 minutes.

As soon as you kill Horratio (Hard Version).
