If you’ve been reading up on previous posts, you may have realised two things: one, we don’t update this blog nearly as often as we should (er, sorry about that). Two, we’ve been putting a lot of emphasis on changing the way that Desktop Dungeons manages the player’s items.<\/p>\n

Potions are just some of the things affected by our changes. Because they now take up precious inventory slots (along with every other item in the game), we’ve introduced a new helper to make the player’s chemical loadout far more varied and powerful.<\/p>\n

Meet the Witch:<\/p>\n

The Witch (with a capital W) is one of the mid-tier Kingdom preparation unlocks that players will encounter as they play Unity DD, and her value in any given dungeon run ranges from negligible to indispensable. As you’ve probably guessed, her specialty lies in potion crafting.<\/p>\n

Before going into any chosen dungeon, she can switch out your character’s default potion loadout (one health, one mana) with more exotic mixtures ranging from dexterity tonics to (literal) cans of whoopass. As you work your way through the available tree of witch-specific quests, you’ll receive access to a broader range of arcane drinkables and expand your potion belt to the point where you can carry up to five of her tonics into a dungeon.<\/p>\n

Almost all of these potions are single-use only, and choosing the right time to quaff them is vital. Some work best on their own, while others are great in combination with other mixtures (assuming you want to drink everything at once). Either way, we hope that the commercial version of DD turns the ritual of potion drinking into something interesting all by itself. At the very least, we’ll do our best to think of some witty tonic names to throw at you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
