Desktop Dungeons Extreme Edition is a fan-made mod that adds content to nearly every area of the game, a lot of it much more challenging than the base game. It is intended to be released in five stages, two of which have already been released.

It is available for download here: http://ddmod.weebly.com
|
Dumps like this one are some of the few remnants of the once great northern empire. Today, they are avoided, as the defective creations seem to have outlived their creators.
The Forgotten One
North
|
Hard
|
This secret workshop has been hiding under the sands untouched since the fall of the Northern Empire. What purpose it serves is a mystery, but it certainly gives off an important vibe, given how hard it was to find.
Lavavein, Goodusa
Vicious
|
You've traced the influx of ancient golems to a flooded building, but strangely enough there isn't a water source for miles. All you can do is wonder: was the flooding to keep you out, or keep something in?
North
This small, peaceful desert town has sent out numerous requests for an adventurer to deal with a "minor goat-related issue." As the nearest kingdom, you feel duty-bound to help them and receive a hefty cash reward.
|
Vicious
|
The recently growing Cult of Lekon are gathering at this ancient temple for some large ritual sacrifice. Preeminent divine scholars are in disagreement over what it will do, but they seem to generally agree this is a bad thing.
Contrary to popular belief, this rarely traversed alpine path is named after its discoverer: Victor Deadman. Unfortunately, the roaming undead packs and fallen adventurers do little to clear up this misconception.
East
|
Vicious
This giant cave network houses a growing society of trolls. This is strange and scary, as trolls are usually incapable of rational thought and organization.
East
|
Hard
|
Most of the Far East is a frigid, grassy plain, haunted by spectral Naga. This land, however, seems more tainted than the rest. Whatever curse afflicts it has made the growth rampant, and the Naga guard its secret fiercely.
This massive Naga fortress stands in stark contrast to its surroundings. While snow stretches on forever in all directions, the citadel and its lands appear completely untouched by the weather.
East
|
Vicious
|
The lands beyond the Eastern Naga are shielded by an impenetrable snowstorm. It's unclear why anyone would want to enter such a place, as the source of the cold must lie within.
* When you die in subdungeon after killing all the bosses in daily dungeons, you still won.
* Daily time shown in victory screen and leaderboard table are different.
* Whenever you start daily, music volume is 100%, doesn't matter if you will make it 0%. Next time you run daily - music is 100% again
* Since Blood Curse is not available at level 10, it could be grayed out just like `single use` boons already taken or not available boons. Now it's available for clicking but if you click on it, nothing happens.
* If you compress Alchemist Scroll, there is no way you can tell about it's status w/o mouse over. It could be animated like Namtar's ward: When it's used for this level, it is grayed out (inert). When it's not used - usual blue color (charged).
* When you target over magic immune plant with PISORF glyph as Half-Dragon, damage prediction says "WIN" (which is wrong since you can't actually cast it). With other classes damage prediction shows "SAFE" (Ok).
* Stone Sigil effect (+1 piety for kill) does not display in piety log.
* LEMMISI received from Saint Solitude subdungeon doesn't give any piety with JJ upon conversion.
* 'Flames' boon's icon is not shown on player avatar unlike 'Refreshment' or 'Mystic Balance' boons upon taking. I think it should be shown on player avatar similar to others.
* Chemist ingame mouseover tooltip shows incorrect mana gain per block in mana mode (1 instead of 0)
* If you push a monster into a shop, and get shop's item by using Translocation Seal, it will put you into one tile with a monster. You can't attack monster from same tile. You can get past the monster.
* LEMMISI mana prediction is wrong: It always show you -2 mana no matter what. As a comparison, B2P prediction works great, showing you exactly how much mana you will get.
* Clearance boon of EM doesn't show how much mana you get.
* Mouseover tooltip for Conversion Points is empty for Rat Monarch. It only shows "Your current conversion points." It should be smth like "Your current conversion points. Rat Monarch gains 1 stack of Corrosive Strike per every 80 conversion points."
* Mana prediction is wrong sometimes on Chemist. It shows you one less mana point for both glyph conversion (Refreshement boon of MA) and mana potion (2 instead of 3). I think, my mana was somewhere around 30 when that happened.
* There are no avatar for Dancing Blade and Trapped Chests monsters (reverted question sign).

Tea shoppes: the Kingdom's dingiest, nastiest hovels, populated by brutes and lowlives of all kinds. To the establishment's credit, the chai is quite brilliant.
Cost to upgrade: 150<br><br><br><br>

Level 1 - Criminal Den
The Kingdom's criminals come in many flavours. Most of them can be found here, doing horrible things like selling insurance and training to become lawyers.

Bosses
Strategy
You want to level up using gorgons, vampires, and warlocks because they all have relatively low hp. Nagas are to be avoided unless they can be killed without incurring any weakening. The plants are very dangerous and hinder your movement, but avoid killing the poison and mana burn plants unless you're about to level up. If possible, before you level up, clear out all the poison and mana burn plants. Corrosion can not be removed easily, so it is recommended you avoid getting any. Before you begin the boss fight, make sure you have killed all sorcerers and pick up all wisp gems.

Special interactions with plants
The harmful plants of the Ick Swamp can be exploited as a resource under limited conditions. A worshiper of Glowing Guardian equipped with HALPMEH can and should poison himself whenever he is at full mana and about to explore, and at any point in time during a battle where he intends to cast HALPMEH. Whenever practical, you should also try to get poisoned and manaburned just before leveling up. A character following this strategy will actually want to conserve the plants rather than just cut them down.

It may not look like it, but the harmful plants apply their effects by making a zero-damage attack. This attack can be dodged like any other attack. Rogues following Tikki Tooki can gain very large amounts of piety by harvesting the plants right before level up. Taking the Dodging makes this even better.

Killing a plant, even the harmless green ones, still counts as a kill and still discharges IMAWAL. Be cautious that you don't waste your Experience Boost on a 0 xp kill!

Deities
Jehora Jeheyu is prep-worthy, even if the loss of an inventory slot hurts badly with all those Spoons and Wisp Gems. Chaos Avatar can be used to either wipe Weakness stacks or lower resistances before/after the fight with Itsssamna, or mid-fight as a compromise with a nice level-up heal thrown in. However you choose to do it, you may as well kill all those nasty corrosive plants first and pick through the remains for any extra trinkets, if you have room for them.

Mystera Annur can also lower MR, and she can do the full 50% unlike Jehora given enough piety. One of the two gods or a Piercing Wand is almost mandatory for using caster strategies on Itsssamna.

Glowing Guardian has already been mentioned because of the extra piety available from poison/mana burn plants. This god also burdens your inventory, though. Tikki Tooki has a novel interaction with plants to farm piety, discussed above.

The Earthmother is probably not worth it, all things considered, at best usable for a risky end-game spike. The last place Vine Form is going to be of much help is against a tanky boss like Itsssamna who applies Weakening. Clearance, Greenblood, and Entanglement are somewhat better, but you will want to clear a large number of plants before converting in so that your Clearance will have a higher chance of removing the plants which are in your way. All things considered, Plantation is a risky move even then, except for maybe a Crusader, who will have the fewest plants remaining thanks to his three immunities.

The others don't necessarily merit a special mention either way, though some specific strategies for Taurog are discussed above.
There is no particular strategy for this dungeon, as the boss is extremely weak, so all classes should be able to complete this easily. One funny thing you can do, if you play as an Assassin, is assassinate the boss. As it is usually impossible to reach LV9, you reach LV8, worship Dracul, take Blood Curse, which brings you to LV9, which makes you able to SWIFT HAND the boss. Normally, your potions should easily be enough to outlast him.
Badges
The only badge that is harder to get here is DING! Max!. Finding or prepping a Balanced Dagger or the Amulet of Yendor will make it possible. The easiest way is by playing as the GoFi and prepping the Balanced Dagger. If you can get a WONAFYT Glyph early that helps as well.
Strategy
Make sure to keep a glyph that isn't fireball or poison (he's undead) to fight the count.
This dungeon randomizes between all unlocked monsters, but still rigs it toward spawning undead creatures. Due to the quest, and the priests ability to crush undead, you want to bring a holy class.

If you are playing a Priest, you want to use GOOD GOLLY to level up quickly. Two fireballs and then one physical shot can usually take out high level wraiths. Vampires are also great targets due to their low hp. Zombies are good targets, but not nearly as easy to kill as wraiths or vampires, so they are your last choice of the three. Be careful with Mana burn, because it can be the difference between a one level higher versus two level higher kill. When you are just short of LV8 begin fighting the boss. Kill a low level monster for a mid-fight level up, and continue bashing them, using potions if necessary, until they die.

If you are a Monk, beeline for Taurog's altar, assuming he's unlocked. Get all of his equipment, while regen fighting higher levels to level up. If possible, through god conversions, pacts, or items, try to max out your resistances. Once you hit LV7 or 8, it should be easy to regen-fight the boss.

If you are playing a Paladin, you want to get as high resistance as possible. Pick a god that boons won't penalize you, but still gives resistances. When you are about to hit LV8, attack and use HALPMEH until you cannot take another hit. Level up by killing a low level monster. Continue fighting, and use potions if necessary, until the boss dies.
Bosses
Strategy
The boss will either have very high damage or physical resistance, so naturally you want a class that can fling a bunch of fireballs. The three best suppliers of this requirement are the spell casting classes. Wizards, due to their inexpensive spells, Sorcerers, due to their extra mana, and Bloodmages, but due to the fact you won't get them before you do this dungeon (probably) I won't include them. Naturally, you're going to want to avoid mana burn, as it will hurt these classes. If the Aequitas is the boss, you should probably go wizard, as their hit-spell-hit combo is ruined if you can't take a hit from the boss.

If you are playing as a Wizard, it is fairly straightforward. Go around converting glyphs, to max out your mana, and killing higher level monsters. When you are LV7 or so, and a few experience from LV8, begin fireballing the boss. When you run out of mana, kill an enemy to level up. Continue fireballing, using potions if necessary. This is extremely easy, and you don't need a mid-fight level up. Feel free to use melee in addition to fireballs if it is the Tower of Goo or you can survive a hit from Aequitas.

If you are playing a Sorcerer, find BURNDAYRAZ ASAP and do a hit-spell-hit combo on a level above you. Convert glyphs whenever you find them to get your mana to 18 and then 24. Continue doing hit-spell-hit combos on higher level monsters until you are LV7. When you are LV7, and a few exp from LV8, hit the boss. Fireball him until you can't fireball anymore. Kill a lower level monster to level up. Continue to use the hit-spell-hit combo, using potions if necessary, until the boss is dead.

Note that this dungeon can easily be completed by non-mage classes, but they are recommended. If you do approach this dungeon with a melee specialist class like Monk, Warlord, or Paladin, bringing the Really Big Sword as a preparation is advised. This will give you a tremendous damage bonus against physical-resist enemies.

This dungeon is one of the best options for completing the Supreme Slayer achievement. You can slay the fairly weak Aequitas in a few hits with a level 1 OrRo by prepping Reflex Potion, Quicksilver Potion, Tikki Tooki, and items that give death protection like the Namtar's Ward or the Badge of Honour. Convert everything, grab GETINDARE/WEYTWUT/CYDSTEPP, and take as many shots of Reflexes as you can afford.
Strategy
This dungeon is full of nasty effects, such as weakening, poison, and mana burn, but by exercising caution you can avoid all of these things. You must defeat the dungeon with both the Thief and Rogue to proceed further into the south, so these classes are the ideal ones to play as. If you have the race unlocked, the Halfling makes an excellent thief. Otherwise, Human makes a fine default. The Dwarf is the best choice for Rogue, compensating for his otherwise meager hit points in this early stage of the game where you have yet to unlock other sources of bonus hit points.

Mysterious Murkshade cause Mana burn whenever you attack them. Since mana burn is cured on level-up and does not stack for any negative effects, you can simply clear the map of Murkshade just before you're about to level up and remove this hazard. The Naga are much more dangerous enemies, as they permanently lower your damage by 1 point per hit with their Weakening ability. Avoid this at all costs, as the penalties rack up and will come back to haunt you. The Rogue has an easy time with Naga, as he can often finish them with a few fireballs followed by first strike and avoid the penalty altogether. The boss, an oversized Serpent, has a poisonous attack. This means that regen-fighting is ineffective against him, but standard approaches with potions and mid-battle level-ups will work just fine.

Thief
If you are playing a thief, try to find BURNDAYRAZ early. Stab your enemies for your STABBER bonus, then finish them off with two consecutive fireballs. This will become increasingly easier as you level up, due to the extra bonus from stat boosters, but cannot be used against Naga as you will be weakened. When you reach level 7, you may want to set up a mid-fight level up. Kill monsters until you are a few experience points short of level 8, then hurt the boss until you need to drink a potion. Kill a lower level monster to level up, refilling hp and mp. If you need to, use potions. This will be an easy fight if you still have your potions.

Rogue
If you are playing a rogue, you will need to find away to take a hit from the boss. Playing as Dwarf is the best option, as with a mere 400 conversion points you can eliminate the Rogue's hit point penalty. The Earthmother can be unlocked in this dungeon and serves as an excellent source of bonus hit points. If you already have him unlocked, the Glowing Guardian also offers bonus hit points. Taurog is another deity option, offering death protection instead of bonus hit points. Be cautious if you choose to go with Taurog, as unlocking the Earthmother could disrupt your strategy and require restarting! However, he is risky as he limits your spellcasting ability. There are many options for bonus hit points from shop items if you already have these unlocked. As with the rogue, the BURNDAYRAZ is vital as it allows you to defeat foes more easily, but you will want to fireball first then use your first strike to finish. This allows you to fight naga since you will avoid taking damage from them. Even if you lack the hit points to defeat the boss, you can often set up a mid-battle level-up and follow up with mana potions to barrage him with fireballs until he's injured enough to finish with a single blow.

As a result, navigating the dungeon will be one of your biggest challenges. Moreover, it is 76 tiles less than usual dungeons, thus making it 19% smaller. This dungeon is fairly unique in that most monsters are low-HP and have no magic resistance, and the only thing preventing fireball spamming is a magic-resistant boss.
Berserker monster is also unique to this dungeon due to unique ability to level up. Any berserker which is equal or lower-level than you will automatically level up when you do. As a result, you will never encounter a berserker who is a lower level than yourself. This level-up effect will also remove any debuffs (such as slow) and damage from the berserkers.
Since you're required to win without using glyphs, preparing Taurog is a no-brainer here. This is actually not nearly as bad as it first appears, since Bjorn can be easily defeated using a chain of Unstoppable Fury. You may have some trouble with your early level-ups due to a lack of spellcasting, but this can be compensated for with good preparations.

Bosses
Strategy
Almost all the monsters in the berserker camp are high damage / low health, and very vulnerable to the BURNDAYRAZ glyph. While Bjorn himself will shrug off fireballs, you can rely heavily on fireball damage in your early level-ups. Any damage-spiking method will work effectively in this context due to the general fragility of the monsters here. Regen-fighting is generally not effective here.

Burn Viper is a particularly vexing foe. Due to the large number of natural barriers, it can be very difficult to chase down. During early exploration, the chances of a burn snake retreating to an inaccessible area are very high, and avoiding combat with them is highly advised. You will also encounter Frozen Troll on this level. This monster has heavy hit points and high resistances, making it highly resistant to damage-spiking strategies.

A typical approach to the dungeon is to focus heavily on damage-spiking and then more or less ignore the burn serpents and frozen trolls. Since the wraiths, warlocks, and berserkers all share a weakness to damage-spiking (particularly fireballs), there is often more than sufficient fodder to level up. Preparing the fireball magnet is often a very good idea, and any good damage-spiking glyphs (such as GETINDARE, ENDISWAL or CYDSTEPP) will work very well.

Any class capable of sustaining a prolonged damage spike should have no problems here. Assassin must be mindful to remove berserkers early, since they are not vulnerable to SWIFT HAND, but is otherwise well-suited to the dungeon.

Strategy
This level is the first that tests new players staying power. There are really no specific tricks to beat this boss, you just need some sort of approach that gives you the strength and staying power to let you survive long enough, because your potions aren't gonna last long enough for 3 bosses. Always make sure you save all of your Mana Potions to the last form, because you're going to need to BURNDAYRAZ his last form. If you choose to use a Priest, your greatest difficulty will be the boss's first form, which is not undead and packs a heavy punch.

Although the Shades created when you slay the sacrificial goat may be intimidating, they are actually beneficial to your cause. Because the cultists revive as zombies, you have to defeat them twice to earn experience, and you get credit for killing a monster one level lower than the cultist. The shades may be powerful monsters, but you only have to fight them once and you get full credit for having done so. As a result, it makes more sense to transform the cultists into shades and fight them in that state. The most dangerous ability of the shades is the ability to drain your health and then teleport away when you attack them. However, these abilities are functionally useless if the dungeon is already explored. The general approach is to leave the cultists alone until you've fully explored the dungeon, then make them transform into shades.

Because you can regenerate your health between fighting different boss stages, you will want to fight the first boss stage early. However, he deals a large amount of damage and can 1-hit-KO most heroes with ease. As a result, you'll need to find a way to get around his dangerous attacks in order to slay him as a lower-level character. Because he is relatively fragile, it is possible to use the APHEELSIK glyph in combination with the BURNDAYRAZ glyph to whittle him away as you explore. Unless you have some way to expand your health or magic resistance, a spellcasting strategy is by far the easiest to kill the first boss.

With proper planning, the Assassin is a very strong class for defeating Creeplight Ruins. A GoAs who begins the boss battle early and saves all his glyphs can often kill the first boss with poison hit-and-run alone, then use level-up catapults to slay the second boss, then use his potions against the third boss. It's entirely possible for a GoAs to simply catapult past all three stages of the boss without ever using potions.

Normal Realm
The Cursed Oasis is an unusual dungeon, composed of two overlapping realms. You will be forced to handle exploration and popcorn monsters in unusual ways. Curses play a large part in this dungeon, so characters that rely on resistances, particularly monks, will struggle. The Normal Realm is a very large and open dungeon containing relatively few walls, with an oasis in the center that can only be explored via LEMMISI or BLUDTUPOWA. While exploring, you will sometimes encounter lifedrain by an invisible monster. These are actually the Shades in the Cursed Realm, which you can walk through in the Normal Realm.

Cursed Realm
If you gain any stacks of Cursed on the main map, you will immediately enter the Cursed Realm. In the Cursed Realm, most dungeon features on the ground are not available: glyphs, potions, boosters, shops, unused altars, gold piles, subdungeon stairs. Even the dungeon exit vanishes. Active altars, which remain available, are the only exception. Thus, before fighting a Bandit or gaining a level, you should have a plan for killing enough popcorn to clear your curses if you still need to exploit these resources. If you gain curse stacks in a subdungeon, you do not immediately enter the curse realm if you emerge. Be careful not to gain so many stacks of curse that you can't clear them all (mostly by fighting higher-level bandits); you might be cut off from all the dungeon's resources until you kill the Curse Shade, which will be no easy task.

The Shades become tangible in the Cursed Realm and provide a valuable source of XP and Curse-clearing. However, because they can blink into blackspace and then lifesteal again, it is risky to fight higher-level Shades before the dungeon is mostly explored. If you lose your last curse stack (by killing a non-cursed monster for example), you will immediately return to the Normal Realm.

The Cursed Realm also features a large number of Erosive Eelroots in the locations of shops, boosters, potions, and gold piles. The dungeon is open enough that they don’t usually interfere with getting around; they are useful to build up extra stacks of Cursed so you can avoid getting kicked out of the Cursed Realm before you want to.

Be careful when using IMAWAL, as it behaves in a quirky way in this dungeon. The most important consideration is that if you petrify a monster that exists only in the Curse Realm (like a Shade or Eelroot), the resulting stone wall will also exist in the Normal Realm. This is especially important since the Eelroots are growing specifically on top of noteworthy tiles. So unless you have a way to destroy walls, avoid petrifying those Eelroots that are on top of things you still need to access like stairs, shops or items you still need to pick up. Another interesting thing is that stone statues created in one realm will appear to meld into the wall in the other, making it hard to tell where to break if you want to access what was under the monster.

Strategy
There are two main approaches to winning the Cursed Oasis, depending on whether you want to kill - or avoid - the Curse Shade.

Killing Curse Shade
You will need to either bypass its 60% resistances, or simply be able to dish out enough damage to grind through them. Preparing the Really Big Sword helps to avoid most of the Physical Resistance, and it's useful also against the regular Curse Realm shades. However, none of the other monsters have Physical Resistance, and being slowed can be a nuisance; on the one hand, it makes killing low-level Thralls non-trivial due to their status afflictions; on the other, being slowed means you get an extra layer of Curse in melee from Eelroots (and lower-level Bandits), which can also pile up to undesirable levels. Using Binlor Ironshield and reducing the Curse Shade's resistances via the Stone Heart can help; consider though that there is only a limited amount of walls available on this level. It's also possible to just keep hitting the Curse Shade until it dies, as its stats are not too high. In any case, be mindful of the Blink.

Avoid the Curse Shade
You will want to have a reliable way to clear - or avoid - Curse Stacks. The obvious way is to play a Crusader, who is immune to monster-inflicted Curse stacks. If you would rather play another class, you may still do this by clearing the curse stacks inflicted by the Curse Dragon in-between strikes. While you can always just leave a couple of low-level monsters and kill one each in-between strikes, a potentially even better way is to use Greenblood to this effect.

PISORF works exceptionally well against both the Curse Shade and the Cursed Dragon. If you keep knocking a suitable monster into the Curse Shade, he will lose health without blinking away (and secondary knockback damage bypasses resistances). This also works against regular Shades. The Cursed Dragon does not retaliate against using PISORF against him (either directly or indirectly), which again makes it a great way to deplete his health without having to take an attack or retaliation from him.

Classes recommended for this level will partially depend on the strategy, but on top of the above mentioned Crusader, the Berserker is also a good pick, as his Magic Resistance gives a natural edge against the Animated Armour and the Dragon Spawn, as well as the Cursed Dragon boss itself. Just make sure you fight these creatures while you are not Cursed. An Orc Wizard (or Bloodmage) of Binlor Ironshield will be able to make quick work of either boss.
As the bosses in this dungeon are random, it is recommended to keep the strategy flexible, and tailor it to the specific bosses. Classes that are more versatile - like the Thief or Tinker - are generally optimal for this level.

Strategy
Doubledoom is a Hard difficulty dungeon, probably the first dungeon the player will encounter that hosts multiple bosses. The layout consists of 6-8 smaller islands, separated by an underground river with stepping stones, with also some regular walls at the center of each island. The same layout is reused - with different tilesets - for other dungeons, like Dragon Isles and the Sorcerer.

One thing to note about the level's layout is that it often leaves very few valid places for the game to place the secret subdungeon, making it relatively easy to find--it requires a 9x9 square of walls. It will almost always be bordered by at least one wall tile that you can see from outside, so if you examine the center of each island you should be able to find it. Don't convert the ENDISWAL glyph until you find it, and consider bringing a Transmutation Seal if you have it unlocked.

Warlord is probably the easiest, because his ability to more easily go for higher-level kills makes him less picky about choosing opponents. Without wasting too much space on exploration, the warlord can effectively take out the higher level monsters and earn tons of bonus experience doing so. Best monsters for bonus experience: Gorgon & Goat. Diffult bosses: Super Meat Man (regen-fight, combine melee & BURNDAYRAZ); Tower of Goo & the Tormented One (rely on BURNDAYRAZ for both).

Assassin will only struggle with undead opponents, which is why it's generally good to just out-level them and kill them using SWIFT HAND. Use poison-fighting against a few key higher-level opponents to gain bonus experience. Best monsters for bonus experience: Meat Man and Bandit (if you don't mind getting overly cursed). Difficult bosses: Bleaty, the Tormented One (rely on BURNDAYRAZ for both); Frank the Zombie (try to get items that increase your damage and/or resistance).

Bloodmage needs a bit of skill to play well, but is actually one of the strongest of the four given his natural affinity to switch between melee and magic. Best monsters for bonus experience: Wraith and Gorgon. Difficult bosses: none; you may need to switch between BURNDAYRAZ + BLUDTUPOWA for the lower health bosses, and Melee + Sanguine regeneration for the lower damage bosses.

Paladin plays really well against physical-damage opponents and shrugs off Poison easily. Best monsters for bonus experience: Serpent, Goat and Golem. Difficult bosses: Bleaty (rely on BURNDAYRAZ); the Tormented One and Tommy Longfellow (either purchase the Soul Orb, or rely on BURNDAYRAZ).
|SpecialRules=Grimm's Grotto uses a different monster placement algorithm than other dungeons. While most dungeons will weight the placement of low-level monsters towards the player's start location and high-level monsters away from it, Grimm's Grotto places them randomly. This means it has a significantly higher probability of creating unwinnable layouts than any other dungeon. According to the developers, this is an intentional throwback to the alpha.
Due to the randomized boss, it is difficult to approach Grimm's Grotto with an overly-specialized strategy. Instead, it is better to prepare yourself to deal with a wide variety of different bosses. Your most important goal is to find ways to navigate around monsters that are blocking your path to avoid getting cut off. The ENDISWAL, WEYTWUT and PISORF glyphs all work very well for this purpose. There are also some preparations that can increase your chances against being stuck between monsters that are too powerful: the Bear Mace or the Slaying Wand from the Blacksmith; the Transmutation Seal from the Alchemist; or arguably the best one, the Titan Guitar in case you have it lockered or available via your backpack. Alternatively, you may prepare Jehora Jeheyu or Binlor Ironshield for their free glyphs, though consider that especially Jehora's preparation penalty can be significant.

Strategy
This boss has a considerable amount of staying power, so it is recommended you play a class that lasts long. The 4 main classes are Bloodmages, because of the considerable amount of fireballs you can throw, Monks, because their resistances and their considerable regen-fighting capabilities, Paladins, because HALPMEH and resistances are a great counteraction to low damage, and Sorcerers, because the MANA SHIELD takes out an additional layer of death protection. Also, make sure not to incur any weakening and lower resist, if it matters.

If you play a Bloodmage use your fireballs to kill things above your level and bring a battle mage ring or burning heart so you can regen fight monsters. When you get to the boss, use all your fireballs until you run out of mana. Then, turn on BLUDTUPOWA and reveal 3 tiles, bringing the boss to 31 HP. If you are at least LV7 you should deal 35 damage, removing another layer of death protection. When you run out of tiles use your mana potions, blood pools, and health potions to finish him off.

If you are playing a Monk, you should be regen fighting sorcerers and wraiths a few levels above you. You shouldn't do this too much because you need to save enough tiles to out regen the boss. Use Taurog, and avoid weakening or lower resists. When you reach the boss begin fighting until you cannot, then reveal tiles till your HP is above 31. Once your HP is high enough, assuming you deal enough damage, you should be able to take off another layer of death protection. Use Unstoppable Fury and health potions to try to outlast him once you run out of tiles.

If you play a Paladin, try to maximize out your resistances so HALPMEH will be most effective. Avoid fighting wraiths, illusions, and steel golems, as the mana burn lower resists, and weakening can be crippling. When you cannot gain any more levels begin fighting the boss, but make sure there are tiles left to regen fight. When you fight the boss, get him as low as possible, then explore three tiles. Then, use HALPMEH and tank as many hits as you can. Then continue repeating this until you run tiles. Then use all other resources to outlast the boss.

If you are playing a Sorcerer, use the your normal sorcerer strategy. Just make sure you don't get an untimely mana burn or any weakening. The MANA SHIELD takes out 2 death protections, so you should have no problem out lasting the boss.

Strategy
Your top priority is to avoid being surrounded by Revenants. These monsters are not overwhelmingly strong as individuals, but their poison attack means they can exhaust you as you fight and in large numbers they can pin you down and overwhelm you. If you have the HALPMEH glyph, you can try to pick the Revenants off one at a time and then use your magic to cure the poison. You can also use the IMAWAL glyph to turn them to stone. They're not worth experience points anyways, so it's no loss to you to brick 'em. However, IMAWAL can also cut off your avenues of escape, and may increase your chances of being trapped by Revenants in the future. To complement this, you can choose to worship the Earthmother. This yields a free IMAWAL glyph and 10 piety per IMAWAL use, even on Revenants. You will most likely max out your piety without sacrificing any actual resources.

The best way to stay safe from Revenants is to avoid creating too many to begin with. If you fight one or two powerful monsters, you will create one or two powerful Revenants. Although these will be dangerous opponents, there will not be enough of them at any given time to trap you. A swarm of 6 or 7 weaker Revenants is a much greater threat. By focusing on killing stronger monsters, you can level up very quickly, and by the time you've created a large number of Revenant you should have already gained enough levels to kill the weaker ones in a single blow.

Once you've figured out how you're going to deal with Revenants, your next problem is Stheno. If there are any monsters left on the level, Stheno will grow stronger when you begin the boss battle. Clearing out the entire dungeon is critical. IMAWAL is an effective way to remove any stragglers you don't want to bother fighting. It's not like you can get a mid-boss level up anyway. The best answer to this is brute force; find a combination of items, glyphs, and deities to make your character as powerful as possible a plough through those monsters, and then the boss.

One tricky strategy that can be used against Stheno is to employ many one-time bonuses to 1-hit-KO the boss. Since the first attack goes through before she absorbs the other monsters, this attack will not be affected by those extra resistances. However, pulling this off is usually more difficult than more conventional approaches.

Suggested Classes
Paladin
He begins with the HALPMEH glyph, and the dungeon is almost exclusively physical damage. There's no more straightforward approach than this. The Human and Orc races are suggested for the Paladin.

Rogue
With first strike and high damage, Rogues have an easier time getting 1-hit kills against Revenants. The difficulty will be improving their durability so they can survive more powerful enemies. The human race is recommended; you will need to find some way to boost your hit points (Absolution, Vine Form and Boost Health all work well for the Rogue here)

Warlord
Using CYDSTEPP, a Warlord can continue fighting effectively even while poisoned and at 1 HP, allowing him to kill Revenants without leaving himself helpless. The Orc and Gnome races are recommended for Warlords.

Rat Monarch
An unconventional choice, but the Rat Monarch's corrosion stacks do not care at all about Stheno's resistance, which lets you play exactly like a normal dungeon without the need to kill everything. The random second boss will almost certainly be more threatening than her. The meat men, goo blobs and gorgons in this level are all easy fodder for the Rat Monarch.

However, revenants are considerably more dangerous for the Rat Monarch than anyone else, because you cannot kill even the weak ones in melee without being poisoned. You will need to dispose of almost every one with either fireballs or petrification, so be sure to prep the Earthmother.

Suggested Gods
The Earthmother
The free IMAWAL glyph provides an easy way to get rid of revenants without fighting them, while also generating piety and bonus experience. You can easily generate more Earthmother piety on this map than virtually any other in the game, without sacrificing any XP-valuable monsters. The extra clutter this god naturally produces make it harder to avoid getting trapped by revenants, however.

Avoid worshipping Dracul, since he will deduct piety every time you kill a revenant, which you will need to do often. The Glowing Guardian will not reward you for revenant kills since they are worth no XP, nor do any other dieties.
