WONAFYT not giving bonus xp?

Under the description it says it's supposed to give bonus xp, but I'm not seeing any bonus xp when I kill the monster that's been summoned. Is it not giving bonus xp, or am I missing something?

You only get the bonus when they have the slow status, which goes away after the first attack. So after the first attack, you won't get the bonus.

Normally with WONAFYT, you cast it then leave the monster alone until you've gained enough levels to kill it in a single strike. This has the advantage of removing these monsters to another part of the map and unclogging hallways, saving their valuable XP for later in the game.

You can also hit them just before death, cast summon and hope it resummons them. Although with level 1 monsters, the chance is pretty low... but if you got nothing else to spend resources on... I will often use this if I have the balanced dagger (since you get the same bonus xp from killing something your level as killing something 1 above your level).

Also note that the swap positions glyph will also slow/provide extra xp, and it only costs 3 more mana.

The more reliable (and mana intensive) way is to summon everything that's the same level. Since the glyph only targets unslowed enemies, you can be guaranteed that you'll summon it.

The issue with just summoning everything, is that you probably can't survive bringing everything down low enough to 1 shot after you summon it.

You only need to strike the one monster. If you're level 1, and there is exactly one monster that is not slowed, it has a 100% chance of being affected.

The real issue is that it's going to take up a lot of resources to be able to WONAFYT every single level 1 monster (particularly if some are magic resistant), and a lot of space that may not be available on tighter dungeon layouts. In general, there's no practical way to use WONAFYT prior to a killing blow.

In interest of contributing to the discussion: I've recently figured out that *one* way of using WONAFYT reliably is holding onto it while worshipping the Earthmother. Snapping off a single shot of Entangle will afford you 100% certainty in resummoning your target.

Yeah, Entanglement is pocket change as far as piety is concerned, but if you can spare the mana it's worth avoiding the extra plant congestion.
